sunsu··on Ethereum will use around 99.95% less energy post merge
Wrong. NODEs (individual network participants) enforce the rules, not miners.

sunsu··on Ohmm Mining: Turn Flared Natural Gas into Bitcoin
No. There is no way for Bitcoin mining to "break SHA-256 and render it insecure". There isn't enough energy in the whole SUN to do that.
sunsu··on Blockchain-Flavored WASI
"Slow Database"-Flavored WASI

Any time you see the word "blockchain" replace it with "Slow Database" in your head and see if it still makes sense.

sunsu··on Ask HN: What books changed the way you think about almost everything?
Incerto series by Taleb
sunsu··on There is more to high house prices than constrained supply
Asset inflation.
sunsu··on U.S. Launches Criminal Probe into Bitcoin Price Manipulation
It makes perfect sense. If many people are trying to BUY USDT (increasing demand for USDT) the price of USDT will increase. Tether tries to prevent this by printing more USDT (increasing supply). They are not "magicking" Dollars, they are magicking a commodity (USDT) pegged to Dollar.

I'm not saying that I'm a big Tether fan or anything. However to say that it "doesn't make sense" when they print more Tether during market crashes is false.

sunsu··on U.S. Launches Criminal Probe into Bitcoin Price Manipulation
This is inaccurate. Tether demand INCREASES when the cryptomarkets crash because traders want to escape to non-volatile assets. If everyone converts their crypto to USDT at the same time (which is what happens during big crashes) they MUST print more Tether or the price will increase.
sunsu··on Show HN: Lightning Network Search and Analysis Engine
What does "capacity" mean in this context?
sunsu··on Bitcoin turning into a multi-layered system is most interesting thing in crypto
Lightning Network is not "developed by Blockstream". There are 3 primary teams that have contributed to the specification: ACINQ, Blockstream, and Lightning Labs. All of the projects are open source and have outside contributors.
sunsu··on Richest 1% took 82% of new global wealth last year, report says
This is how compound interest works. Why does this surprise anyone?
sunsu··on Norway Idea to Exit Oil Stocks Is ‘Shot Heard Around the World’
Public companies can issue more stock to public markets at any time. That stock would be priced at the market rate. If a company’s stock price tanks due to lack of demand, that is bad for the company. Similarly, companies with failing stock prices have problems attracting (and bleeding) talent.
sunsu··on Bitcoin mining uses more energy than Ecuador – but there’s a fix
The GDP of Ecuador in 2014 (all time high) was $102.29B.
sunsu··on The advertising industry has been living a lie

The author of this has absolutely no idea how modern advertising works.

sunsu··on “Oracle laid off all Solaris tech staff in a classic silent EOL of the product”
Does this mean VirtualBox is dead soon as well?
sunsu··on Ask HN: What maths are critical to pursuing ML/AI?
None. You can be a productive ML engineer without understanding the math. Many elitist engineers here will downvote me, but its true. ML libraries that allow you to quickly get productive have come a long way. BUT, you have to have a solid understanding of WHICH algorithms/tools to use WHEN. There is also a lot of "voodoo" knowledge to gain that isn't well documented or explained (unrelated to maths).
sunsu··on DeepLearning10: The 8x Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti GPU Monster
I purchased a couple of the machines from these guys for my team and had a great experience. Highly recommended if you have better ways to spend your time than building them yourself.
sunsu··on Dropbox Reaches Key Profit Milestone
I agree and that's why I used the words "some measure of confidence". However, it IS better than many other unicorn examples, such as Uber losing $800M in Q3 2016 for example.
sunsu··on Dropbox Reaches Key Profit Milestone
It clearly says that in the article: "The San Francisco-based startup, founded in 2007, has been meeting with bankers to discuss plans to sell shares in an initial public offering"
sunsu··on Dropbox Reaches Key Profit Milestone
I had no idea that Dropbox had topped $1B in annualized revenue. Their new profitability gives me some measure of confidence that not all of the Unicorns are facing inevitable doom.
sunsu··on Redshift Spectrum – Exabyte-Scale In-Place Queries of S3 Data

sunsu··on The U.S. Will Surpass China as the No. 1 Country for Manufacturing by 2020
The US is most definitely a net food exporter and it has been that way for a long time. "U.S. agricultural exports have been larger than U.S. agricultural imports since 1960, generating a surplus in U.S. agricultural trade." https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/international-markets-trade/...

sunsu··on Webhook Tester
Nice! I've used hook.io for this in the past but yours looks much simpler.
sunsu··on Webhook Tester
One thing I've wanted on tools like this is an API to query what requests have hit your particular endpoint which would be useful for unit testing applications which use webhooks.
sunsu··on Bernie Sanders: Where the Democrats Go from Here
There are many charities with great, documented, track records. There is only one US government and it's track record of efficiently and effectively allocating resources is horrible.
