sundaeofshock··on Study found that young adults have grown less hopeful and more angry about AI
Someone just filmed themselves setting fire to a warehouse because they were underpaid.

<<trump has gone from winning the popular vote (over 50% voted for him)>>

Trump received 49.8% of the popular vote.

sundaeofshock··on Milei Wins Mandate for Free-Market Revolution in Argentina's Election
Winning 40% in an election with 67.9% turnout isn’t exactly the will of the people here.
sundaeofshock··on US retail giants raise prices due to tariffs
I did a Google search for “retailers raising prices because of tariffs” and the link below was the first result. Seriously, do you really think that retailers are just going to eat the cost of tariffs for the next three years?

sundaeofshock··on Silicon Valley Is Panicking About Zohran Mamdani. NYC's Tech Scene Is Not
Property taxes - which exist in all 50 states — are a wealth tax.
sundaeofshock··on Border Patrol agents show up outside of Gov. Gavin Newsom's press conference
I wish I had said all this.

A comment I made earlier in this conversation has been downvoted a few times. People are choosing sides and using their votes in attempt to silence voices that question the Trump regime. Fortunately, I have plenty of karma to burn.

sundaeofshock··on Border Patrol agents show up outside of Gov. Gavin Newsom's press conference
True. However, I think it’s important to note that the governor refused to be intimidated and continued mocking Trump on social media. I don’t always agree with Newsom’s politics but I sure like the fact that he reuses to bend the knee to Trump.
sundaeofshock··on I'm worried it might get bad
That works because you are a senior developer who knows how to properly use the AI tools. What 10 years from now? What happens when senior devs are retiring and we do t have replacements since we replaced junior devs with AI?
sundaeofshock··on ICE Took Half Their Work Force. What Do They Do Now?
The real question: why are we ok with the free movement of capital, but insist on restrictions for the movement of labor?
sundaeofshock··on Administration seeking $1B settlement from UCLA
I wish people would stop using the term admin in relationship to Trump. This is the Trump Regime and we should all act accordingly.
sundaeofshock··on Constitution of the United States Website has removed sections
I mean that the US, my country, effectively ceased to exist in its old form on January 20, 2025. The Trump regime has been working aggressively to destroy all vestiges of our democracy and replace it with autocratic rule.

This is some bullshit and pisses me off, but here we are.

While I’m not happy they are changing the text of the constitution on this website, I’m glad they are such bumbling idiots about it.

“The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born; now is the time of monsters.”

sundaeofshock··on Constitution of the United States Website has removed sections
True, but I’m glad they are making it public. The old US is gone; time to figure out where we go from here.
sundaeofshock··on Grok generates fake Taylor Swift nudes without being asked
And people wonder why there is a “male loneliness epidemic”.
sundaeofshock··on EPA Moves to Cancel $7B in Grants for Solar Energy
I don’t wonder about either. He is one of the stupidest — if not the stupidest — individual to occupy the White House.
sundaeofshock··on GitHub CEO Warns Developers: "Either Embrace AI or Get Out of This Career"
To make it even more explicit, if the company has 100 developers, the CEO’s response will be “Great! Layoff 90 developers.”
sundaeofshock··on Tesla Diner
Vegetarians not welcome. French fries made in tallow are a big fuck you to vegetarians, and I’m sure the grilled cheese cooks in burger grease.
sundaeofshock··on AI promised efficiency. Instead, it's making us work harder
AI is not sentient, so it does not “understand” anything. I don’t expect the autocomplete of my messenger app to understand its output, so why should I expect Claude to understand its output?
sundaeofshock··on Palantir: The Most Evil Company
If ethics don’t influence your investment choice, then you have no ethics.
sundaeofshock··on The Rule of Law Is Dead in the US
Keep in mind that most tech overlords, including Gary Tan of YC, are all in on the Trump admin. While it saddens me, I’m not surprised that there are many supporters of Trump in this forum.
sundaeofshock··on The Rule of Law Is Dead in the US
So are you.
sundaeofshock··on “No tax on tips” is an industry plant
When I worked as a waiter (many years ago), my pay check included tax withholding based on 8% of my tables for that pay period. This is driven by IRS rules: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc761#:~:text=If%20the%20total...
sundaeofshock··on "No tax on tips" is an industry plant
California has not had a tipped minimum wage since at least the early 2000s, and I can’t seem to find any information on what is in the 1900s.
sundaeofshock··on US Government takes $1B from nuclear modernization for gold-plated jet
He never lies when it comes to his grifts. He is absolutely planning on keeping that plane.
sundaeofshock··on The U.K. closed a tax loophole for the global rich, now they're fleeing
Because all that wealth gives the person an outsized ability to influence government. See the 2024 US election cycle for numerous examples.
sundaeofshock··on The U.K. closed a tax loophole for the global rich, now they're fleeing
A rich eats three meals a day, just like everyone else. They may eat nicer food, but they do t consume that much more than the average person. Indeed, the rich tend to hoard their wealth, removing it from the economy while the average person spends most of the money they earn.

Taxing the billionaires is a net plus for any economy.

sundaeofshock··on What caused the 'baby boom'? What would it take to have another?
What about the doom and gloom that people are living? Low wages, expensive housing, unstable employment, and crappy medical care do not fill people with optimism.
sundaeofshock··on Immigration raids leave crops unharvested and California farms at risk
At what quality? Most frameworks are paid by amount harvested so they bust their asses to pick all that fruit. What’s the motivation for prisoners to do more than the bare minimum? Related question, what will the other inmates do to the inmate who works much harder than everyone else?
sundaeofshock··on [dead]
Surprised this has not been flagged yet.
sundaeofshock··on Abrego Garcia Was Beaten and Tortured in El Salvador Prison, Lawyers Say
Yes, there are plenty of unflagged political posts. I don’t deny that at all. I also acknowledge that my experience may be purely confirmation bias and nothing more. Having said that…

I follow the HN raw RSS feed, so I see a lot of articles that don’t make the front page. I find that pretty much any article that refers to trans people is flagged. Many — not all — articles that are show the Trump regime or Musk in a negative light are likely to be flagged.

YMMV.
