suivix··on SOPA Hearing is Streaming Live
Everyone knows that the American dream can be found in the Scandinavian countries.
suivix··on Is Google losing it?
Losing what? In some sense they are... when you're at the top of a mountain, the only way is down.
suivix··on Brad Garlinghouse Is Quitting AOL
AOL has been on a downhill spiral since the dialup days have ended. It doesn't surprise me that they're trying to latch on to the Huffington Post's media empire, as Brad puts it.
suivix··on Internet giants place full-page anti-SOPA ad in NYT
Senior citizens pick up papers, and all of them go to the voting booths.
suivix··on Register of Copyrights: without SOPA, copyright "will ultimately fail"
I remember this woman speaking in the video stream. She's not ignorant, but rather heavily biased and convincing enough to sway others to her position.
suivix··on Ask PG: Could we have the SOPA censorship label up on HN's logo today?
Could we not turn HN into an activist site? Thanks.
suivix··on Airport full-body X-ray scanners banned across Europe as unsafe
""Let's not forget the REAL motivation for the US Gov't to buy these things [1] The former Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff whose company, Rapiscan, miraculously won a contract worth $173 million just days after he left his office and essentially bought the company.""

suivix··on Intel's x86 Android, smartphone, and tablet plans exposed
I wouldn't use a smartphone with 8 cores and 4 GB of RAM and a long battery life if the user interface sucks. If Ice Cream Sandwich is mediocre from a usability standpoint, no hardware can save it.
suivix··on NYTimes Obituary for Ilya Zhitomirskiy, Co-Founder of Social Network, Dies at 22
I briefly talked to Ilya in March after he randomly gave me 9001 invites to Diaspora (some here might get the joke). It's like I won some weird sort of lottery. Anyways, it naturally encouraged me to invite lots of people, and I got about forty to sign up. He struck me as a very warm, fun-loving guy who was also fastidious in his work. I saw him announcing bug fixes and new features day in and day out. He really left a strong impression on me.

I'd really like to learn more about the circumstances of his death, and not out of morbid curiosity. I suffer from bipolar 1 disorder, and have been taken medication for two years since I was diagnosed after having a severe manic episode. His death was a bit of a wakeup call.

suivix··on Google is mapping your wi-fi access point and the opt-out options stinks
It'll probably make apps better if they know where every SSID is. I don't see this as a bad thing, although it is a minor privacy intrusion.
suivix··on Wow: Intel unveils 1 teraflop chip with 50-plus cores
What is the significance of this over standard GPUs that can already do over a teraflop?

See table: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Islands_(GPU_family)

suivix··on Sean Parker: “Little Startups Are Ridiculously OverFunded”
If you write software for a big company then that piece of software could impact the lives of millions of people.
suivix··on This is a Bad Time to be an FPS Fan
You left out the Call of Duty series.
suivix··on This 28-Year-Old Is Making Sure Credit Cards Won't Exist In The Next Few Years
It's very unreasonable since they deposited the money and had zero transactions. Dwolla got the money from their bank account, and my parents wanted to send it back to the same account.

It's even more unreasonable since they gave no notice that there was a hold on the withdrawal.

suivix··on This 28-Year-Old Is Making Sure Credit Cards Won't Exist In The Next Few Years
Except that dealing with the Dwolla people is far worse than Visa/Mastercard.
suivix··on This 28-Year-Old Is Making Sure Credit Cards Won't Exist In The Next Few Years
My parents put $2000 in a Dwolla account, did nothing with it, and two months later decided to withdraw it. Dwolla put a hold on it for over a week without any notification, and my father finally decided to call. On the phone they said 'well you know, $2000 is a lot of money'. My parents had to send over scanned photo identification just to get their money out.

Anyways, what I learned is that Dwolla's customer service is terrible. I don't recommend it to anybody.

suivix··on How to lose time and money
When you are watching tv, you could be planning how you will do your next creative work.
suivix··on CNN Reports Diaspora's Ilya Zhitomirskiy Committed Suicide
I find it appalling that much of his notability is the fact he committed suicide.
suivix··on Why Millennial Women Are Burning Out At Work By 30
I found it really interesting how young women take less breaks, although I'm not too surprised. I remember in school that girls would seem to spend so much time studying, while I would take studying and homework 'binges'.
suivix··on At Google X, a Top-Secret Lab Dreaming Up the Future
Nothing is ever flawless. If you focus on refining one technology too long, the world will change around you and it'll become obsolete. Imagine Microsoft patching Windows 95 for 15 years.
suivix··on At Google X, a Top-Secret Lab Dreaming Up the Future
Only Willy Wonka and Richard Branson would buy one?
suivix··on Diaspora Co-Founder Ilya Zhitomirskiy Passes Away At 21
CNN Money reports that it was confirmed suicide.
suivix··on Obese Monkeys Lose Weight On Drug That Attacks Blood Supply of Fat Cells
Nearly every poor adult has a cell phone. I can't tell if your comment was sarcastic or not.
suivix··on Obese Monkeys Lose Weight On Drug That Attacks Blood Supply of Fat Cells
It is simple like walking from New York to Florida and back, over and over, is simple. You just put one foot in front of the other.
suivix··on How the Plummeting Price of Cocaine Fueled the Nationwide Drop in Violent Crime
That would make interstate commerce regulation pretty interesting.
suivix··on Skyim breaking Steam record -- a singleplayer game has 240,000 users online
I find it amazing how so much chaotic data can be represented by simple abstractions.
suivix··on Show HN: RichestOnTheWeb - my submission to Hacka2thon
Maybe you should make it the newest bidder can leave a message?
suivix··on How the Plummeting Price of Cocaine Fueled the Nationwide Drop in Violent Crime
If abstaining from something secludes you from your peers, then the abstinence likely would have a larger negative effect.

That said, in college I did go out drinking with friends quite often. Just because that's what everyone did, and it was fun. My best memories are from then.

suivix··on Ask HN: What's your ratio of time coding to planning?
It's a very tough question because 'planning' can include time when I'm in the shower, falling asleep, or driving to work. I work at a megacorp though, not a startup.
suivix··on These May Be The Droids Farmers Are Looking For
It'll be interesting if there will be a new super organic which means nothing artificial involved.
