stopagephobia··on Salary Transparency
I vouched for this comment because even though it's phrased kinda aggressively, it's also not wrong. Best case scenario it shows a profound lack of social awareness and competence in interpersonal dynamics. Probably something for him to work on.
stopagephobia··on Salary Transparency
Yeah ok, I wasn't complaining about that stuff. Literally he could have just ignored it or fixed it (the actions people normally take) and nobody would have cared either way.
stopagephobia··on Salary Transparency
Man stop trying to get other people to fix your blog. The whole world isn't your editor.
stopagephobia··on Salary Transparency
In my experience it's always coworkers on the lower end of the bell curve getting pissy. Nobody likes to be told he's just worth less.

And tbh I don't like salary transparency because it usually tightens the range of comp for a position. I've always been on the right side of the curve (getting promoted faster etc) so that would suck for me.

stopagephobia··on Salary Transparency
I think he's talking about runn where the compensation honestly looks terrible: $43k as a junior and under $80k as a senior. I wonder if the goal of transparency there isn't to avoid wasting time with the majority of people who won't put up with a salary that low.
stopagephobia··on Salary Transparency
Seriously dude? Nobody's making a PR to fix your typo on your site.

And not trying to get too personal but this may be hinting at why so many of your jobs are incredibly short tenure.

I don't understand how this bigoted person (madeofpalk) thinks that agephobia is acceptable. Why does anyone feel the need to continue perpetuating hatred against PoA?
stopagephobia··on We built voice modulation to mask gender in technical interviews (2016)
The polite term is People of Age or PoA for short. I appreciate your caring enough to ask!
stopagephobia··on I Fucking Hate Science (2017)
The name's a play on the "I Fucking Love Science" thing that was part of the big pop science boom.
stopagephobia··on Vegetable Oil for Lubricating Chainsaws (2008)
That's not how vegetable oils gum, they go sticky in a way that's not like grease. Hard to explain but if you feel them both there's a huge difference. Grease will stick but isn't stick-y in the same way if that makes sense.
stopagephobia··on Vegetable Oil for Lubricating Chainsaws (2008)
Tbh I wouldn't worry much about toxicity compared to the shit in GSR. Anecdotally I've never tried it but some people have tried something vegetable and it went sticky anyway. Cleaning guns regularly is enough of a pain in the ass already without maybe having to before going out shooting. I'd also never use it in a CCW or something ready for home defense because of that risk.
stopagephobia··on Vegetable Oil for Lubricating Chainsaws (2008)
To my knowledge it can absorb a little through the skin but not through the intestines though more than a little will give you the shits real bad.
stopagephobia··on Vegetable Oil for Lubricating Chainsaws (2008)
We'll probably get some solid observational data, due to the rise of vaping, but that will take a few years.
stopagephobia··on Vegetable Oil for Lubricating Chainsaws (2008)
This does not jibe with my experiences or anybody I know's experiences, I think it needs more development. I've had friends who used vegetable oils then they dried out or worse turned rancid and gummed stuff up. Especially bad if a tool is left for a while, or in a hot place, though I guess this is not so much a problem in Europe. This doesn't seem like a significant enough problem to justify that anyway, "thousands of gallons" across a continent is not actually that much.
stopagephobia··on AWS Private 5G
Then we start jailbreaking them to use as free modems and cost people who make that huge amounts of money, then they will stop.
stopagephobia··on Typora 1.0
Often people end up waiting for an outlet to cover it and write a news story on that interesting information. So technically then it's not "editorializing". I just don't know that it's better to do that, and sometimes the link gets changed to the actual source anyway. Maybe "Tell HN" should get more common for these?
stopagephobia··on Your next car may refuse to start if it thinks you've had a drink
You're downvoted but i could legit see a scenario where it refused to take you certain places if there was a lockdown order. Since some countries are leaving those in place for people not vaccinated, its possible.
stopagephobia··on Your next car may refuse to start if it thinks you've had a drink
Broken seat belt will not stop cars from running. Nanny state argument I think still applies to seat belt for an individual person, just requiring that kids wear them is okay though. When did we decide government got to stop ppl from doing stupid shit?
stopagephobia··on Your next car may refuse to start if it thinks you've had a drink
Not true. Maybe you are a foreigner? It is worth explaining how we see cars. Ever since especially 40s and later they represent the ability for any person to go wherever desired without conforming to somebody else's schedule. We see them as "freedom on four wheels" and will work to keep them that way even if you think they shouldn't be.
stopagephobia··on Your next car may refuse to start if it thinks you've had a drink
Meh, prohbiition dont work, we tried it. We cant even keep kids from drinking. Theres already a cultural shift away from as much heavy drinking, a lot more of the young people I know dont drink at all or drink only a bit and are more accepting of people who don't drink.

Also how would you prevent other bars from selling to people without a centralized database.

stopagephobia··on Your next car may refuse to start if it thinks you've had a drink
WTF. I remember when I was younger and driving maybe not drunk but heavily buzzed was more accepted, glad it's not any more. This is stupid though, I dont want a machine that thinks it knows better than me. Subtitle on the article is accurate, this is nanny state bullshit.

I also hate stuff like this because "Computers don't argue": https://www.atariarchives.org/bcc2/showpage.php?page=133 Computer says you're drunk so tough shit, you cant drive to work. Try again tomorrow.

Edit: people downvoting are supporting an increase police state. We shouldnt make people prove their not committing a crime to do normal stuff. This is like stop and frisk but automotive.

I think a big question is how much $ to make one, AIRS is very good but damn expensive.

stopagephobia··on The burgeoning business of OnlyFans consulting
Disproportionate $ go to the top because everybody want the hottest girl. Digital media mean that everybody can get her stuff the same, basically as many as will pay. It aint like a strip club where maybe the hottest girl is already giving somebody else a lapdance so you take the next one down.
stopagephobia··on CIA and Gen Z
Yep, anecdodltally i ran an experiment on this. Trick is that ppl are in "networks". Find somebody you think is in your target network who got low followers to following ratio and send a request, do this 5ish times. Then go based on recommendations and ppl will see "oh that account follow these other ppl i know lemme accept a follow request".
stopagephobia··on CIA and Gen Z
Can we cool it with the agephobic comments? Cia is going to have trouble finding enough such ppl who also meet agency requirements because they hire a lot of ppl and need more than 10 of them.

Google got the same problem, probably they use blackhat SEO so its hard to keep up.

Some of us People of Age remember when getting a good domain was easy before squatters :)

And yes its hard now. In real life you can have the same business name in two different business areas as long as it doesn't cause confusion. I think we should get rid of domains all the way, I should be able to register any text and make it DNS resolve.

Only answer for having squatters is to make any "domain" buyable so they can't get all the good ones.
