These rare interactions with matter are also a cause of concern in voting machines, right? Or at least it was a concern at one point. A random bit being flipped or something.

steveoscaro··on DeepSeek-R1: Incentivizing Reasoning Capability in LLMs via RL
Grok2 is right up there in the middle of the pack with the big dogs on a lot of the benchmarks. It's no joke. So I think Grok 3 could be really interesting.
steveoscaro··on What really happens inside a dating app
I'm a digital nomad and changing locations frequently, so I have actually tried this A/B test a couple times when arriving in a brand new city. Same results.

I paid for a lifetime membership to Bumble premium a couple years ago, but as I noticed matches/likes declining for no apparent reason, I made a 2nd account with different credentials, paid for a week of premium, and had a bunch of matches (exact same profile as my other account).

From my anecdotal experience, they have some algorithm that leads to diminishing returns in order to keep extracting money for boosts or whatever.

steveoscaro··on Tesla sales in Germany dropped 41% in 2024
Not really that different

You don’t “have to” make it environmentally sustainable…
steveoscaro··on DeepSeek-R1: Incentivizing Reasoning Capability in LLMs via RL
If you see no path from ASI to vastly extending lifespans, that’s just a lack of imagination

I wonder if Xai is sweating their imminent Grok 3 release because of DeepSeek. It’ll be interesting to see how good that model is.
steveoscaro··on Stargate Project: SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, MGX to build data centers
Based on what? There’s not a better state in the country for large capex gambles by business.
steveoscaro··on Stargate Project: SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, MGX to build data centers
Mark Tesla under the AI robotics category too.
steveoscaro··on Stargate Project: SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, MGX to build data centers
At least this time the CEO of their chosen company isn’t a yuppie cult leader wannabe.

I think cheap power (whether gas turbines or massive solar farms) trumps any cooling efficiencies gained by locating in a cold climate.
steveoscaro··on The Toyota Prius transformed the auto industry
A few hanging chads really changed the course of the western world in... 2000 I think.
steveoscaro··on The Toyota Prius transformed the auto industry
Or just run an extension cord from your dryer outlet with a splitter. $100 and done.

steveoscaro··on Generating an infinite world with the Wave Function Collapse algorithm
Someone smarter than me please tie this into the many worlds theory of the universe and collapsing wave functions.
steveoscaro··on Salesforce will hire no more software engineers in 2025, says Marc Benioff
Seems like an odd takeaway to me - they fired 90% of their staff and now pump out new features way more quickly than old Twitter.
steveoscaro··on LA wildfires force thousands to evacuate, NASA JPL closed
New Mexico is pretty relaxed
steveoscaro··on Ending our third party fact-checking program and moving to Community Notes model
That sounds like a line from the CCP.
steveoscaro··on Ending our third party fact-checking program and moving to Community Notes model
Thanks for sharing this. So many people commenting on this topic have no idea how community notes even works. Today's New York Times article also failed to explain it, while just giving a general negative tone to the idea of switching to this model.
steveoscaro··on Yemeni Coffee Shops in Texas
I find that Starbucks locations in other countries are much nicer than in the US. Speaking of Mexico and Thailand specifically from my recent experiences. And this is having lived in Seattle most recently in the US. I think the homeless/addict problem has ruined a lot of urban Starbucks locations in the US.
steveoscaro··on GPT-5 is behind schedule
We’re in fact adding more water to the seas, not drying them out.
steveoscaro··on GPT-5 is behind schedule
It’s interesting that even if raw computing power had advanced decades earlier, this type of AI would still not be possible without that vast trove of data that is the internet.
steveoscaro··on Kowloon Walled City: Heterotopia in a Space of Disappearance (2013)
Anyone remotely interested in Hong Kong should read the novel Tai-Pan. That’s some great historical fiction. No idea which parts are accurate, but it’s a fun read.
steveoscaro··on Exotic new superconductors delight and confound
Question - is this a field ripe for breakthroughs using advancing AI capabilities? Or not likely because LLMs haven’t ingested much data that could help reason in this field (or whatever reason)?
steveoscaro··on GM exits robotaxi market, will bring Cruise operations in house
It's weird to me to see so many people thinking Tesla is "far behind", when in reality, they're far, far ahead of the competition for a general purpose and scalable self driving solution. Seems like political biases just cloud judgement so much. Youtube now has videos comparing Tesla FSD V13 with Waymo rides on the same routes.
steveoscaro··on Sora is here
Welp I can't even login with my existing ChatGPT account because their servers are overloaded
steveoscaro··on Grok is now free for all X users
Correct previously, but they've just released (at least in beta A/B mode for some users) their in-house image generation model called Auora.
steveoscaro··on The AI reporter that took my old job just got fired
Does Radiolab even put out new content? Seems like every time I decide to plan a new episode, it’s just an old episode with a new intro.
