sschueller··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
The problem isn't only them, it's all the greedy investors and enablers around them thinking they can hold the potato just long enough to enrich themselves before the whole things explodes. The "enablers" are the real problem and this is why Elon is still not behind bars.
sschueller··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
The US will try to force Europe to implement such restrictions as well.
sschueller··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
> And lets hope we learn a lesson.

That is the last thing that will happen. We don't seem to ever learn a lesson.

Isn't this "model suicide"? The Chinese models will not be doing this.

sschueller··on Inkling: Our Open-Weights Model
However unlike the US models, China banning the release of new models would not break existing ones. Betting on US models only can get you locked out in just a few hours.

sschueller··on The zero-cost fallacy: open-source software in the agentic era
I love maintaining open source in an agentic world. I can be a complete asshole about contribution rules and coding standard as long as I define the AGENTS.md. The more strict the better and I can get good clean pull request without an endless back and fourth. I can even require updating the documentation!

An OCD dream but you need to embrace it and configure it or you would get "AI slop".

sschueller··on European "age verification" "app" forcing everyone to use Android or iOS
Two platforms that are not owned by companies in the EU. Effectively handing the keys to your state ID to private foreign enterprise.

What will you do when Apple/Google or the US Government effective immediately delete/block your app? The impact initially may be small but after a few years if widely used, you can break a country.

sschueller··on DeepSeek aims to make its own AI chip
Who says you need EUV? I assume these will be model on chip not general purpose like GPUs. Hence you can get crazy performance even with larger dies.
sschueller··on Grok 4.5
Do we have any proof that this was made by xAI and isn't some Chinese open model running with modifications?

Providing remote heat is a common thing in Switzerland[1]. Just like Waste valorisation plants[2] that additionally produce electricity.

Thank you for your feedback. Saddly at this time the try out widget is not feature complete as the display. I may remove it completely as it gives a false impression of what the display can do.
sschueller··on OpenPrinter
An ESP32 is way cheaper and has Wifi and BLe as well. I updated a label printer with an ESP32-S3 to add wifi[1] and it has plenty performance. It is even available with dual-band wifi 6[2]. Most processing is done outside the printer on the sending party anyway.

sschueller··on Why Switzerland has 25 gbit internet and America doesn't
I don't know why you are getting down voted. I wrote the article and that is the point of the article. A free market requires proper and smart regulation to work for all the people to get the best product.
sschueller··on Why Switzerland has 25 gbit internet and America doesn't

sschueller··on Show HN: Searchable directory of 22k+ products from worker-owned co-ops
How are these companies legally setup in the US? Is there a concept of a co-op or do you setup an LLC?

In Switzerland we have the concept of a "Genossenschaft"[1] which is a legal form for a company entered in the official company register like every other company for co-ops. You need to be at least 7 people to start one.

The largest two food super markets are both co-ops (Migros and Coop) and also the largest car sharing company Mobility is a co-op.

sschueller··on Fable 5 is Back
It doesn't matter. The damage is done.

As a company I can not trust putting large sums of investment into using a product that may disappear the next day due to a government deciding at a whim that it should not longer be available. No contract can protect me from this and I doubt I would find an insurance that would cover this risk.

This forces me the build fallback solutions and diversify most likely resulting in not using the tech from the "high risk" provider.

Building a product on top of something like this is actually worse than building a product on top of Meta like Zynga did.

I have been heavily using DeepSeek V4 Pro at Max for a month now and I would say it is 100x cheaper. If I pay for Claude I will hit that limit so fast I am always waiting 5 hours. Using the frontier models at Kilo I go through dollars while doing the same thing via DeepSeek it is pennies.
sschueller··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
Greenland, Svalbard, Falklands and Sazan Island in just the last two years.
sschueller··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
But why?

There are no Chinese military personnel and bases in Europe. The Chinese have not tried to take European land by force and China is also quite stable. It won't change it's mind every 4 years and negate international treaties that have been signed. I also don't recall China invading another country and/or kidnapping leaders of a foreign state in recent history. China also does not control the global reserve currency and can not unilaterally impose debilitating sanction on countries such as Cuba causing the death of thousands of innocent people because of some historical beef.

Yes, China does not have a good human rights record, they imprison a lot of political dissidence but then who are we comparing them too? The US has a 5x worse per capita prison population than China and a horrific human rights record.

What exactly bothers you so much about China that the US does not?

sschueller··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
The LLM improvement curve will level off and with so many AI engineering being in China they will catch up quickly.

The financial growth based on that everyone on earth will need to have an OpenAI or Anthropic subscription is quickly falling apart.

DeepSeek V4 is good enough for most of my work that that I can no longer justify paying 100x for something else. The cost difference is astronomical.

sschueller··on OpenAI leans toward waiting until next year for IPO
There may never be another window. They will run out of money especially if open models catch up.
sschueller··on Iran Delays U.S. Peace Talks over Israeli Attacks in Lebanon
> Israel invaded Lebanon and found massive amounts of tunnels and military equipment.

After Gaza I will need verified by third party evidence of this.

Also what business does Israel have to complain about another states tunnels and weapons? I don't agree with Israel having nuclear weapons, it doesn't give me the right to decide on my own to go into Israel and try to take them away.

sschueller··on Iran Delays U.S. Peace Talks over Israeli Attacks in Lebanon
Lebanon being part of the deal requirement by Iran is a brilliant tactical move. It tests how serious the US is in keeping up their end of the deal and it causes severe infighting internally in the US. Iran managed to cause conflict between two allies.
