squiggy22··on Ian's Shoelace Site
you lot are obsessed. https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Anews.ycombinator.com+...
squiggy22··on Ask HN: How are you acquiring your first hundred users?
For me personally integration marketing.

Slack, IFFT those sorts of platforms already having a user base willing to try new things . Massive.

squiggy22··on Ask HN: What are good high-information density UIs (screenshots, apps, sites)?
I wonder how much additional traffic, links, seo benefit and general brand awareness this site has generated simply off doing things to this standard.

A fly wheel of benefits.

squiggy22··on Scaffold Level Editor
I have such an appreciation for write ups like this. Reminds me I'm not a real programmer at all.
squiggy22··on Yellowish Nodules on a Man Consuming a Carnivore Diet
Missed a trick not starting this title with Florida man.
squiggy22··on Dawn of a new era in Search: Balancing innovation, competition, and public good
I'd argue the minute they turn to an advertising model that subscriptions would churn overnight, but in the same vein as the don't be evil motto being dropped I nod at the scepticism.
squiggy22··on Ask HN: Is Google Dead?
I know. Right. Its not like they are searching any sort of volume.
squiggy22··on Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on?
Pretty quick way to figure that out is to ask for it now, build the landing page.
squiggy22··on This is what the year actually looks like (2018)
Fwiw I think of the year in much the same way as a clock face.. the 12 months and 12 hours thing essentially matches somewhat 1 to 1 for me. So circle representation is what follows. Im actually surprised in the variations too.
squiggy22··on HTTPie Desktop: cross-platform API testing client for humans
100s of endpoints with various evolving payloads across 100s of developers.

The problem space is shared documentation, not 'make http request'

squiggy22··on Show HN: Bookmark in Public – Curate and Share Collections of Links Easily
This sort of app helped hold the fabric of the internet together before facebook et al fucked it. Great work.
squiggy22··on Show HN: Linkwarden – An open source collaborative bookmark manager
If its on nextjs I've a feeling there are auth providers kicking about to implement sso at least.
squiggy22··on Google “We have no moat, and neither does OpenAI”
If Openai can win the developer market with cheap api access and a better product, then distribution becomes through third parties with everyone else becoming the product sending training data back to the model. I'd see that as their current strategy.
squiggy22··on Don’t record your social life on an append-only social network (2022)
I went to try this out only to read the words 'download the software'.

Good luck with that. Even the Firefox plugin requires some additional setup. Frictionless it ain't. By a long stretch.

Sigh.

squiggy22··on Ask HN: Those making $0/month or less on side projects – Show and tell
The fact the you choose to keep this project ad free is fire.
squiggy22··on What happens to all our tech after we're gone?
dead man's switch https://www.deadmansswitch.net/
squiggy22··on A phone app called Lumenate claims to alter the brain’s rhythms (2021)
Thanks for posting this. In Belfast here totally going.
squiggy22··on Ask HN: How to keep my daughter busy while tickling her curiosity
Write / draw a book, show her how to sell it on Etsy / Gumroad.
squiggy22··on Web scraping with Python open knowledge
Is there subsets of common crawl anywhere for individual sites. E.g. YouTube for example?
squiggy22··on Show HN: Kontxt – Social web layer with CMS and social network
I love everything about this idea. If any of you remember mybloglog which was acquired by yahoo back in the day, they had all the ingredients that were missing from the web back when the cool kids were calling in web2.0. I met and interacted with so many blog writers who were able to see me land on their website and followed my profile back to mine, opening up a whole new social experience for those who created on the web. I hope this service moves in that direction over time, providing an escape from the walled Gardens of social media today and bringing it back to the open web where it belongs. Why Google or others haven't decided to ship a similar service right in Chrome is beyond me .. instead of a me too offering that was Google Plus.. the open web itself is where those social interactions and connections to me make most sense.
squiggy22··on DuckDuckGo “down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation”
If people started using the word 'false' instead of disinformation I think the distinction would be clearer.

We aren't talking about good results versus bad results here surely? When did bias come into it? Merely falsehoods versus truths? Or have we got to the point where no one actually believes in such anymore and it depends on your political opinion on whether something is true or false?

Fact or fiction. Let your political direction decide.

Surely removing fictious results should be a bonus for everyone?

I give up. World has gone pure stone mad.

squiggy22··on Facebook Pay
No surprise there. Consumer apps versus business apps reviews are hilarious.

'My boyfriend dumped me on this app last week. One star.'

'This app listens to my conversations and serves me ads. One star'.

At best it's the product not the applcation being reviewed. At worst, it's the general public howling at the moon.

squiggy22··on 1Password Has Raised $620M
Auth0 acquires 1Password. Problem solved.
squiggy22··on My Custom CSS Reset
What would you call it? Non-classical-sort-of-css reset.css is a bit long to be fair.
squiggy22··on I was rejected by Codecademy three times, so I built my own
Completely agree. I wonder what it is about programming something from nothing that still makes people think it isn't a creative pursuit. The Venn diagram of writers, painters, guitarists and programmers needs to be more heavily advertised to get past this stigma of engineer meaning some boring old fart typing mindless code at a keyboard.
squiggy22··on Google adds a guitar tuner to Search
Interesting that it only resolves on 'google tuner' rather than 'guitar tuner' searches.
squiggy22··on Google’s Answer to Overheated Job Market: Demanding Proof of Rival Offers
Counter offers just say 'yeah we thought we could get away with paying you that all this time, but here's what we could have been paying you'
squiggy22··on Show HN: Mani – Place virtual sticky notes in real-world spaces
I love this. There's a virtual treasure hunt / digital geocaching application in there.
squiggy22··on Adam's Apples
Remember when you used to discover blogs like this ALL the time? Now you come across it because it's so uncommon. Like that site with the shoelaces that shows up here occasionally, the thing that is interesting is the author's dedication and passion to their craft, and indeed, that said passion is still actively updated.
squiggy22··on Show HN: Beeper – All Your Chats in One App
Does this provide any additional privacy benefits over using say the native apps for said networks?
