spraak··on Ants trapped for years in an old bunker
That's a really tired joke. Do you know why you hear it so much? Have you ever considered how inundated the world is with carnist culture? Everyday vegans come across media, friends and assumptions about the normalization of eating animals. How do you know that someone is a carnist? They'll tell that dumb "how do you know someone is a vegan" joke.
spraak··on Ants trapped for years in an old bunker
Not trolling, I was genuinely interested
spraak··on 'Alarming' loss of insects and spiders recorded
I don't get that at all. Can you explain? How is it cultish to want to preserve the environment?
spraak··on 'Alarming' loss of insects and spiders recorded
The desire for insects and spiders deserve to die is very far from any reasonable viewpoint with contrasting counter points. Unless you're saying that OP is a "reddit kid" I don't see the problem with an irrational idea like this getting downvoted
spraak··on In Defense of Comic Sans
My wife homeschool's our daughter (which I add to the context for that it shows she wouldn't have already been exposed to Comic Sans from public school) and one day my wife decided to switch some of the worksheets she created for our daughter to use Comic Sans. Our daughter was really excited about the change and said that now they're "more fun and easier to read, it seems more like a kid made this".
spraak··on The first high-resolution map of America’s food supply chain
I thought that the map in the Fast Company article were cropped, but the map from the original study seems to lack Hawai'i and Alaska, as well as Puerto Rico, American Somoa, Guam... and where else am I missing?

spraak··on How to Mitigate a Negative SEO Campaign?
You've missed the point. This is more similar to identify theft.
spraak··on Victor Mono – A free programming font
It's a cool effort but I guess it's not for me — I much prefer <= over ≤ and >= over ≥ and !== over ≠ etc. because I find it more explicit and readable than a condensed form.
spraak··on Airbnb in the Himalayas
Sorry I mean that I would like to hear more detail rather than just a downvote.

I'm curious why you're downvoted. Do people disagree?
spraak··on Prenatal THC exposure yields hyperdopaminergic phenotype rescued by pregnenolone
Yes when my wife was pregnant it was not common at all to use it during pregnancy, and was barely even medically legal outside of pregnancy. She became allergic to Zofran, Diclegis (?) didn't work, and neither did any of the other commonly used HG medicines.
spraak··on Prenatal THC exposure yields hyperdopaminergic phenotype rescued by pregnenolone
My wife spent months in the hospital due to Hyperemesis Gravidarum (a disorder during pregnancy that causes continual vomiting and nausea. My wife vomited up to 40 times a day, eventually vomiting blood and breaking vessels in her eyes. She survived on a banana bag and lost 20% of her pre-pregnancy body weight. She said HG feels like being on an unending roller coaster while you're hung over and have the worst flu of your life). We lost the first baby. The second pregnancy was only survivable due to cannabis. It was risk we knew but 7 years later our child shows no signs of developmental disorders. I know, N=1, but still worth sharing.

I've been downvoted by those who are very attached to drugs, it seems.

spraak··on Green capitalism is using Greta Thunberg

The point the author is making is summed up here:

> Greta Thunberg finds herself advising those she castigates.

spraak··on V8 adds support for top-level await
Can anyone explain this to me, how is it a race condition?
spraak··on Tmux Tutorial
Ah you're right, I forgot that the keyboard I use isn't common/standard. Backtick is right above Q for me.
spraak··on Tmux Tutorial
One of the biggest improvements in my tmux productivity came when I changed my prefix (default Ctrl + b) to backtick (i.e. to `) I am a heavy user of tmux and spend a lot of time switching panes, switching windows, entering visual mode, detatching etc. so this really feels faster.

    # change prefix to backtick
    unbind-key C-b
    set-option -g prefix `
    bind-key ` send-prefix
spraak··on Farm animals in India and China are becoming more resistant to antibiotics
> Eating eggs in a restaurant is not a belief.

That's a very shallow interpretation of what I said. You say that you avoid eating eggs at home, which must originate from a belief. And yet you eat them at a restaurant, so why is there the contradiction?

> you're trying to bait me into a corner

You've done that to yourself; or, I am pointing out where you're not being consistent.

> I've been a vegetarian for about 4 years and the cognitive dissonance you start to see is remarkable. People claim to love animals and hate animal cruelty through mouthfuls of burger and pork.

When you are eating something with eggs from a restaurant [1] do you also not feel discomfort from two contradictory beliefs?

> because you seem to be using this thread as a soapbox to push an agenda unrelated to the discussion.

It reads more like you continuing to find excuses to not be accountable. Is the Dalia Lama some ethical authority to hold up as a standard for others? He's just a religious figure important to a specific group of Buddhists.

> Any level of mindful eating is admirable, even if someone changes their constant diet of meat to one of having 1 day a week meat-free for the sake of animals and the environment is worth applauding.

These kind of baby steps never lead anywhere fruitful. The end goal must be worked towards. Applauding any and every tiny effort just makes people complacent and we never make any real progress. E.g. most vegetarians have no plans to transition to veganism, despite knowing about the cruelties of the egg and dairy industries (which are the same as the poultry and beef industries, just a different point in the pipeline).

spraak··on Farm animals in India and China are becoming more resistant to antibiotics
Thanks for calling this out. It's baffling to come across vegetarians at all (I'm vegan btw) talking about ethics. To me it's worse than an omni who thinks they care about animals, because a vegetarian has taken some steps to look into the details, but then decides to stop short.
