There’s something uncomfortable about trying to simulate ‘the human touch’ to improve conversion rates. When the mask slips, and people discover your emails for what they are, I’d say it’s more alienating than any traditional mass email
But the agency I was working for was so busy, and we were cranking out code at such a rate, that after a while I stopped thinking about exactly who the clients were. We did a lot of work for religious and political organisations, gambling industry lobbying groups etc. "Charities" in the loosest sense.
Before long it became clear that I'd used my talents to help organisations whose values were directly against mine (I'm a strong supporter of LGBT rights for example, on which the Catholic church has a poor record.)
The main things I learned as a junior dev were:
* Non-profit clients aren't necessarily more ethical than business clients, it's naive to assume this is the case
* Be careful when taking on a high volume of client projects. It's hard to track exactly what their values are, and you might accidentally end up enriching an organisation which hates your guts
* Track your personal values carefully and regularly check if you're living up to them at work
For me, if I edit while I'm writing, self doubt gets in the way and I can't get a draft finished.
The instructions[0] say it's included in Ubuntu 17.04 and later, but I couldn't see any way of enabling it.
I tried installing with apt using the command they listed:
. /etc/os-release
sudo apt install -t ${VERSION_CODENAME}-backports cockpit
But this didn't work. Eventually I read on another website that this is the correct way to install it: sudo apt install cockpit -y
This probably would be obvious for most people - but since this software is all about improving server UX, I thought it was worth mentioning!Human insight and imagination will always be needed to create meaningful, useful prompts
Will this diminish the value of human-made art? Actually, if anything, I think people will crave art made by humans and celebrate it even more. It might force us to up our games
They’re not so good for text heavy or ‘critical’ content that you want people to definitely read.
It helps if the content is visual and users can see the next slide peeking through, it hints that there’s more to see. Autoplay is always bad imo
There is so much beyond the little patch of the world I’ve explored. Cheers for sharing
Also - He forged ethics documents (he did not have his University’s approval) and had a coercive clause in the consent form which meant the patient would be liable for costs if they backed out
I would suggest you spend time doing other things, find work that is truly meaningful to you.
In this world people will look at you strange if you pursue meaning over money, but I think that’s better than a life of burnout and economic exploitation
