spand··on NaN, the not-a-number number that isn't NaN
It can usually be implemented like this. No need for strings.

fun isNan(n) = n != n

spand··on Cursor 1.0
Its their take on a coding agent that just came out of early access.
spand··on Why is Cloudflare Pages' bandwidth unlimited?
I can second this. Their sales people have such poor behaviour that I am considering moving away simply on principle. There is nothing predictable about being on an enterprise contract and they will hit you with bullshit overage charges like using too many dns requests (wtf??) all of a sudden to force you onto a much larger contract. On the 28th of December no less ! We have used them for a very long time but I am having very big doubts about how much we can use them in the future even though their products are great.
spand··on GitHub Snakes SVG
Python is not named after the snake (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Python)
spand··on Why is Apache clinging to OpenOffice?
Knowingly distributing a faulty product with risk of harm to the user ?
spand··on Rocket Mortgage to trim 8% of workforce as home-loan market shrinks
Your math is wildly off in point 2. Rates are now above 3% and ie. a 0.5% bond is trading at 77 [1]

spand··on CUPID – For Joyful Coding
Has anyone tried the D in a multi module jvm setup ? I attempted this[1] in Kotlin with Gradle but breaks in IDEA which is pretty much a dealbreaker.

spand··on How to Become a Bad Developer
Everything is gold plating until it isn’t. So do you bet on the project going big and deep or not ?
spand··on Microsoft Patches Six Zero-Day Security Holes
What a silly straw man. Engineers may not be fungible but funding is.
spand··on IRS records reveal how the wealthiest avoid income tax
Houses usually taxed on an ongoing basis. Not really comparable to stocks.
spand··on IRS records reveal how the wealthiest avoid income tax
Unrealised gains compound faster than taxed gains. You then only have to pay taxes on the money you spend.
spand··on DarkSide ransomware gang quits after servers, Bitcoin stash seized
I would expect only Bitcoin markets to have the liquidity and depth where one can easily buy 5 million worth of coins. Similarly when the hackers want to sell the coins again.
spand··on Why can’t you buy a good webcam?
It is covered in the article
spand··on Insulation: First the body, then the home (2011)
Not sure of the total outcome but the heat source might not be as efficient at pumping out heat for it to get warm quickly enough than it would at a constant rate. I cannot find a source now but I believe this is even the case for new refrigerators that they run in a much more continuous mode than the jagged cool/off mode.
spand··on U.S. Treasury, Commerce Depts. Hacked Through SolarWinds Compromise
Does anyone believe the US isn’t doing similar shit themselves ? In that light it seems pretty disingenuous to call out others for the same act.
spand··on Chrome phasing out support for User-Agent
Same except it stopped not long ago. Maybe they fixed it ?
spand··on Questions to ask before adopting microservices
Seems the solution would be to improve the thing rather than reimplement it as microservices.
spand··on Questions to ask before adopting microservices
Can you elaborate why it had to be done that way ?
spand··on Rust 1.40
Not affiliated but there is at least one posting here https://concordium.com/careers/
spand··on Compile-Time DI vs. Run-Time DI
You are just refuting your own straw man.

Passing dependencies also qualifies as DI and is for the benefit of the developer. Maybe you are only talking about DI frameworks or containers in which case I share some skepticism but in general the concept of DI is pretty sound.

spand··on The Shock of Sweden's Housing Market Is Hitting the Country's Currency
There is a third option you know.
spand··on Show HN: SentinelJS – Detect new DOM nodes using CSS selectors
Thanks for the response and sorry. Maybe I was not quite clear. I was attempting ask if it would trigger the event handler before DOMContentLoaded (relevant on big document where DOMContentLoaded takes 10 seconds to fire) Example on a timeline:

  0. Browser starts parsing the document
  1. Sentiel.js loads (ie. by blocking script tag)
  2. Handler is set for .my-component (ie. by inline script tag)
  3. Browser parses <div class="my-component" />
  4. Handler is fired for .my-component
  5. Browser parses rest of document
  6. DOMContentLoaded is fired.
Will the .my-component handler will always fire after DOMContentLoaded or have you experienced that it might happen before? I guess it reduces to the question if key-frame-handlers will fire before the document is fully loaded/rendered.
spand··on Show HN: SentinelJS – Detect new DOM nodes using CSS selectors
If the author is watching this thread or anyone else. Would this work for elements not yet loaded by the browser before DOMContentLoaded?
spand··on Https hurts users far away from the server
No that is not all an attacker could know. TLS does not provide confidentiality of the number of bytes transmitted. So in your example an attacker would only have to crawl the public website and find the pages matching in size to the ones you have been browsing.
spand··on Kitchen worker becomes part-owner of top restaurant
In Denmark its not strictly necessary but many do so they can afford an apartment instead living in a dorm and/or more expensive lifestyle. Its cheap money though. After education its only the the states lending rate + 1%.
spand··on How Finland plans to implement the first nation-wide basic income in the EU
It is only unbalanced as long as there is an oversupply of people seeking these jobs. With basic income there is a real chance that shitty jobs simply remain unfilled until they improve and people consider spending their life energy on it acceptable.
spand··on BlackBerry Unveils an Android-Powered Phone with Security Features
A Text message exploit affecting most Android based phones (http://www.androidcentral.com/stagefright)
spand··on Database versioning best practices

spand··on Erlang/OTP 18.0 has been released
Anything noteworthy ? :-)
spand··on Libtls – New TLS API from LibreSSL
I believe so too. It seems like a reasonable security tradeoff to limit the kinds of bugs that will be the result of such flexibility.
