sourcecodeplz··on PhpBB 3.3.10
> Ultra long topics with hundreds of posts, somewhere between page 157-178 there are some nuggets you will never find.

Yep, you have to go through each page to find them all, it's called research.

sourcecodeplz··on PhpBB 3.3.10
Ah the OG. Does anyone knowledgeable about forum software know witch is the most resource-less intensive? PhpBB, SMF, MyBB, Xenforo, BBPress (or others)?

I know with SMF, one can disable lots of features and make it lightweight, but would like to know more.

sourcecodeplz··on Finland’s most-wanted hacker nabbed in France
On paper I imagine but I wouldn't know.
sourcecodeplz··on SF’s Market Street subway runs on Reagan-era floppy disks
No way this is real. Floppy disks used to get corrupted all the time when I exchanged them with friends. Just a little sun light and ..
sourcecodeplz··on Finland’s most-wanted hacker nabbed in France
Why would the records be in a database in the first place? That seems like such a sensitive type of info, at least don't attach real names to them geeZ.
sourcecodeplz··on Tell HN: Tweets no longer seem to be properly indexed by Google
Yeah, also when searching for a personality, the second result would always be a "Tweets by" carousel. Interesting.
sourcecodeplz··on Gattaca is still pertinent 25 years later
Definitely on my re-watch list, together with Idiocracy.
sourcecodeplz··on If you're happy with OpenBSD, probably any computer is good enough
I've heard there's quite the group here on HN that browse the web on CLI browsers.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Isn't ChatGPT unfair to the sources it scraped data from?
It's your fault for making your IP free and public. Instead of posting for free on your web property, do it in a book that you charge for.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Should Hacker News add Sort-By-Controversial comment sorting?
No, because I read them all anyway. I like reading.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: What does ChatGPT do well?
It's very fast in responding to anything you ask it. A lot faster than anything else.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Which tools increased your productivity the most?
I know some are tired of this but... chatgpt by far.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: What is your replacement for Google search
Google and ChatGPT but not in that order.
sourcecodeplz··on Hackers weaponize Microsoft Visual Studio add-ins to push malware
Package managers, browser extensions, add-ons, plugins... all need due diligence but sometimes you just don't have the skills/time for. What's the solution, because I don't know.
sourcecodeplz··on Kids can't use computers and this is why it should worry you (2013)
"What's a computer?"
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Are you tired of reading ChatGPT headlines?
We're you not here when it first launched? I feel it calmed down now and is at acceptable levels.

It's an amazing tool nonetheless.

sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: How are you using ChatGPT to make your life better?
Generate words in the same lexical family or connected words that can then be used to create prompts. This is what I really like about it. I start small and keep expanding just by asking.
sourcecodeplz··on Chaos by the Bay: The Truth About Homelessness in San Francisco
If you don't do anything, you don't contribute (pay taxes). So there is a lot of money "wasted" here if people prefer to be homeless and don't contribute.

I saw that video of a guy saying very honestly he likes being homeless. He had about $300 per week? from the state. He had a phone with data, a tent and plenty of cash to eat and buy some weed and beer too if he wanted.

Edit: you do contribute even if you don't work. You gotta eat and food has taxes in it already. Booze has even more taxes. Etc.

sourcecodeplz··on D.C. free bus bill becomes law as zero-fare transit systems take off
Free as in a free lunch? I've heard there's no such thing.

I know of places where pensioners (over 65yr olds) get it free but not universal.

There are pros and cons to this of course but overall: people who didn't take the buss before are not going to now all of a sudden.

sourcecodeplz··on Show HN: Kody Tools – I developed 300 tools in 6 months
Congrats and thank you for building this! Awesome project and the site is snappy fast.
sourcecodeplz··on The science of having ideas in the shower
Paranoia is a very common side-effect from weed. Not saying it's not a throwaway, just saying.

Keep it real.

sourcecodeplz··on Post-processing is ruining iPhone photos
Per the old is new again trend, anyone remember does disposable Fuji film cameras you used to take on vacation? Only had like 35 frames. You wouldn't dare take a photo every 5 minutes and run out of film on day one.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Why do people still use Stripe?
Exactly. Someone steals a card and uses it to buy from your store. If your store is selling high-ticket physical items, you will for sure be a target.

Fraud is fraud. It affects everybody, not just the person whos card was stolen.

sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Can I sue Twitter for leaking my email?
You agree when you create your account. It's implied: "Using our services you agree to the terms and conditions which btw we can always change as we please and when we want" sadly.
sourcecodeplz··on Stanford distances itself from now-viral ‘harmful language’ list
Yeah, that list was quite enlightening for me as a non-native English speaker but some did feel quite ridiculous.

Edit: does anyone have the list? because going to http://web.archive.org/web/20221219160303/https://itcommunit... loads the page but the actual terms don't show up. just the sections.

This is why I say we should all have personal archives, sometimes not even they waybackmachine can help.

2nd edit: it looks like the information is there in the page, you just have to use view-source

First ChatGTP, now this. Geez, wouldn't wanna be Google right now.
sourcecodeplz··on Works entering the public domain this year
Yes, I've read the article.

> And what if they didn't?

If they didn't, or didn't get along then it's possible the author could have left the rights of his estate to someone else. If there is no will, things go by default to family.

sourcecodeplz··on Works entering the public domain this year
What if those descendants helped and supported the author?

What if that help and support went on for many years while the author was working on his "masterpiece"?

What if that masterpiece was released just years before his death?

How can people be so nihilists about this?

sourcecodeplz··on NYC Bans Students and Teachers from Using ChatGPT
If every student asks ChatGPT to write them an essay about the same subject it's possible they will receive the same answer. Then who will be crying?
