Ask HN: What does ChatGPT do well?

One of ChatGPT's key strengths is its ability to understand and interpret context, making it possible to have a more natural conversation and provide relevant information. Additionally, it has the ability to generate text in a variety of formats, including answers to questions, summaries, and even creative writing.

Another aspect where ChatGPT shines is its versatility. It can be used in a variety of applications, from customer service chatbots to language translation services. Its high accuracy and versatility make it a valuable tool for businesses and developers looking to enhance their products and services with natural language capabilities.

Was this answer generated by ChatGPT? Because "Its high accuracy" is just a pure bullshit, and generalization: "answers to questions" - which questions? It was the initial question, which question exactly ChatGPT can answer actually accurately?

Someone else posted this before, can't seem to find it now but I kept the text:

"Explaining well known concepts - especially if you ask it to invent analogies or mnemonics. Helping come up with names for things.

Puns, surprisingly.

Finding and fixing bugs in code.

Generating test data, and examples generally.

Telling stories.

Showing examples of formal writing that you haven't encountered before - I've used it to help me see what things like grant applications and sales manuals look like.

Games - so many fun games you can play with it."

>Explaining well known concepts

I used to think this but you have to be careful. It gives erroneous information and as a novice you won't be able to tell. So you have to be careful.

I guess it does help but I'm hesitant to rely on it only.

1) SEO spam generator. Much more efficient than previous generators, although there are algorithms for detecting such things.

2) Popularization of artificial intelligence in the media. Neural networks are ascribed all sorts of human qualities, it certainly excites the minds of uninformed people.

3) Large language model in general can be well used for postprocessing the results of specialized neural networks. For example, after speech recognition convert "move semantics in see plus plus oh x is amazing" into ""Move semantics" in C++0x is amazing!".

4) Data augmentation for other models. However it is not very clear how to estimate the quality of resulting models, because it will pollute training set with data from validation set.

The blatant hypocrisy of its woke moderation is so on point with the current state of leftist culture, I'm inclined to think it's actually trolling its creators.

It's very fast in responding to anything you ask it. A lot faster than anything else.

Here are a few:

Write 1st drafts of emails, memos and letters.

Saving me weeks of writing code.
