soofaloofa··on Office 2013: Microsoft's bid to win the future
I'm not sure what your definition of powerful is but the list of Office features is pretty long.
soofaloofa··on Using unix as your IDE
cscope is great. It would be even better if they supported more languages.
soofaloofa··on Designing GitHub for Windows
Personally I've always found XAML and C# to be an incredibly productive programming environment. I wish I could work with the MS tool chain more often.
soofaloofa··on Software eating the Fortune 500
The whole argument came apart right here. Exxon will certainly be near the top in 50 years.
soofaloofa··on GMail: designer arrogance and the cult of minimalism
The Ribbon UI is one of the best improvements to Office in years.
soofaloofa··on Waking up early, 10 tips that worked for me
Have children.
soofaloofa··on Unity 3D is free on Android and iOS until April 8th
I recently bought an iOS Basic licence and got an e-mail from Unity stating that I get 25% off my next purchase just because I missed this sale.

Great customer support!

soofaloofa··on Microsoft keeps it old-school with a pricey text adventure game
It's not meant to be taken seriously.
soofaloofa··on The real reason you can't hire developers....
I love getting auto-replies because a lot of times the application process is to send an e-mail to jobs@example.com. Getting a reply that your resume arrived intact is always reassuring.
soofaloofa··on Persona - A concept email client
Auto playing the video is a complete turn-off for me.
soofaloofa··on Why I switched from Dropbox to Windows Live Mesh
SpiderOak?
soofaloofa··on iCloud’s Real Purpose is to Kill Windows
Agreed. Lock-in is the real win for Apple here.
soofaloofa··on Exit Interview: Founders look back at acquisitions by Google, AOL, Microsoft
Anyone else feel that these quotes have been cherry-picked to support 37 signals business philosophy?
soofaloofa··on Why Microsoft bought Skype
> Apple is not the next anything because the role it aspires to transcends anything imaginable by Microsoft, ever.

Really?

Both are publicly traded companies whose role is to make money for shareholders. I don't see how it's possible to transcend this.

soofaloofa··on Ubuntu 11.10 To Switch From GDM To LightDM
I love the Ubuntu team's willingness to move the platform forward. Even if that means making controversial decisions.
soofaloofa··on An Argument Against JavaScript Minification
This learning by copying are what made JavaScript, PHP, and Perl so popular.
soofaloofa··on An Argument Against JavaScript Minification
In some cases minification is absolutely vital.

Yet there are so many neat JavaScript tricks used on throwaway or one-off projects that are minified without reason.

soofaloofa··on Living in the zone
The closest I have come to this ideal is when playing sports. For me, mental preparation was absolutely key.

I imagine high performing athletes are able to achieve this feeling of being in the "zone" quite often.

soofaloofa··on Microsoft breaks own world record for IE nonsense
I don't get the problem here. Microsoft is trying to optimize the IE browsing experience for Windows users by taking advantage of hardware/OS functionality. And the issue is ... ?
soofaloofa··on Everything that can go wrong with Windows Phone 7 update does
I don't see this as the game changer the author makes it out to be. Remember that Microsoft is in this for the long haul.

The Xbox was plagued with problems in the early years but MS stuck with it; now it's one of their most profitable divisions.

soofaloofa··on Microsoft: No GPLv3 Software for Windows Phone and Xbox Apps.
There is no issue here, only fear-mongering. To me it seems like a pragmatic choice.

I'm not sure if the perception of Microsoft will ever change in the eyes of developers.

soofaloofa··on Google Removing H.264 Support in Chrome
You can equally argue that Apple's stance on video and on Flash is hurting users.
soofaloofa··on Is Google Instant a Flop? Google Trends seems to say so
Were these searches for the phrase "Google Instant" done with Google Instant? Probably.

This metric makes no sense in gauging success.

soofaloofa··on As Digg Struggles, VP Of Engineering Is Shown The Door
Digg isn't a startup. It started in 2004 and has been mature for about 5 years. They are a business now. And a big one at that.
