someguy101010··on Ask HN: Remote Work for Refugees and Asylum Seekers?
Couple of thoughts come to mind.

- I think the closest thing to this would be something like the silkroad or whatever it's modern incantation is.

- I think solving a problem like this would be more about branding and abuse than technical. Abuse will be a hard since a platform like this will have to be censorship resistant by design.

- why do I want to hire a refugee in the conditions that you describe? I'm running a business here and it's difficult to sell me on refugee talent. (Not trying to be callous, genuinely curious)

- Finally, is their real problem work? I think the thought you have is noble, but I suggest reaching out to refugee communities (no idea how to do this) and asking them what are the things that you need right now.

The questions I have are out of naiveté so if I am mistaken please point out my mistakes.

If you can't pay your employees a living wage your business does not deserve to exist. I don't care if it's a small business owner or $megacorp.

There is a whitest kids you know sketch about this where the government was talking about the invasion by ak47 weilding bears.

The reporters asked: "wait a minute, are we invading Iran again?"

This always is on my mind when I see these reports.

someguy101010··on My Favorite One Liners
The only reason to post an image instead of a pastebin is for engagement. I understand the engagement practices we are subject to on attention marketplaces like twitter, but is it that hard to provide a supplemental pastebin link?

> This commmand allows you to convert your shell output into an image as this makes it much easier than taking a screenshot of your shell if you want to share your output with someone.

Why is this becoming a more common practice? There is nothing more annoying than a picture of a block of text that I can't copy, quote, or modify and send back to someone.

someguy101010··on A serverless email server on AWS using S3 and SES
I use this myself for forwarding emails and signing up for random sites. Pretty easy to set up and 0 overhead to maintain. One of these days I'll set up a ui around it to send emails. Having both set up and maintained an email server "the old fashioned way" and using this, the over head on this is way less than postfix et al. This only goes for receiving email though, sending email with this is a biiit clunky, and doesn't support attachments (yet). If you have an aws account and a spare domain give this project a shot! It has a surprising amount of utility.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's not really anyone's business. If it's super unfair the uni would disclose it. I was just kind of curious.

Law is absolutely not something I would like to be programmatic. The nice thing about having a human being presiding over human affairs is that they can prevent you from using exploits in the letter of the law in the spirit of the law.
