There are local factors to take in to consideration. I managed a 100% remote team with team members in UK, Spain, India, China, Canada etc. The total cost to the company remains roughly same but the amount that goes to local taxes and what employee gets in hand varies by market. Europe has very high taxation, which does benefit the employee eventually. US has what it has but offers the employee very little in terms of benefit during their lifetime. Simply saying FB pays 1/3 of SF market doesn't make sense.

Itanium was really good at raw performance as long as you could write hand tuned math kernels or kept working with the compiler team to optimize code for your kernel. Took me a while, but I got 97% efficiency with single core DGEMM.

I dont know why you are down voted but this is true. They should be easily able to afford a cook & a maid. Doctors earn well in India. People with less prestigious and less salary have cooks and maids. My guess is this is a narrative.

I am not saying she didnt have two jobs (house work & office work), but the article paints a slightly tainted picture. It is also possible that this family did not choose to have a cook, which is also not uncommon. Especially if they are of certain cultural groups, they have strict rules on such things.

How about you distract yourself with movies, books, music, drinks or good old fashioned mild sedatives.

I find that reading, or movies completely relax me because it takes my mind away from thinking about bad things that might happen, which are not in my control.
