skidoo··on Magna Carta, Still Posing a Challenge at 800
Who voted that down? Did I disagree with your favorite commercial media journalist? So sorry for the faux paux. So embarrassed. Will make mental note to pick extra cotton from your master's salt mines when my time comes to leave the shed next month. Hoping to save enough bitcoin to buy a generator for warm water to keep my niece alive. Blessed be! But what about THIS cat vid, cultural commentators? Amirite? That calico almost looked like a foreigner. Can you imagine!
skidoo··on Show HN: MealDB – The best restaurants and cafes nearby
....for me to get a side job at? Because I have no disposable income beyond keeping myself alive. So, great time spent on that app, comrade.
skidoo··on Ask HN: Is telekinesis inside the international space station feasible? [idea]
As far as cost factor, I imagine James Randi's circle might be of assistance:

I wonder what Dan Brown would have to say about this.

skidoo··on Snowden files 'read by Russia and China': 5 questions for UK government
There is not enough popcorn in the world for this right now.
skidoo··on Britain pulls out spies as Russia, China crack Snowden files – report
Right on. The way I always saw it was that the NSA were the thieves, collecting data they did not own. Snowden, while accused of stealing secrets, actually set them free.
skidoo··on Questions about the Sunday Times Snowden Story
If I remember correctly, Snowden himself said in Citizen Four that intelligence agencies use aliases for assets and not targets. Which would mean that if any agents had actually been named in the docs, their masters saw them not as assets but as potential targets, which is damning unto itself.
skidoo··on The world of threats to the US is an illusion
The talk of need for separation of Church and State is one thing (and absolutely valid), but I think the largest threat to the world, indeed the largest threat the world has ever known, is the marriage between (American) State and (American) Industry. That's what the Snowden leaks have verified most.
skidoo··on Hack of U.S. government compromised millions of security files
So this means the NSA will be dismantled as a complete failure and total waste of monies spent, right?
skidoo··on Terence Mckenna: Know Your History [video]
I love his remarks on the New Age movement. Spirituality without some form of sacrifice has always struck me as unauthentic.
skidoo··on Use pay phone to contact Australian Secret Intelligence Service recruitment
While standing on one foot and facing North, of course.
skidoo··on Use pay phone to contact Australian Secret Intelligence Service recruitment
What if there's some weird loophole among the Five Eyes participants that ignores payphones in favor of other landlines and cells?
skidoo··on Australian Government Green-Lights Internet Filter
I'm more concerned with the ease in how American corporations can so readily influence foreign governance.
skidoo··on Max Keiser: Banker Suicides Likely to Increase
We can only hope.
skidoo··on Google Launches Sidewalk Labs
No it's not. You can support your family without enabling an evil corporation in sneaking billions in tax evasion schemes. Greed destroys. Capitalism destroys. No paint job fixes that.
skidoo··on Google Launches Sidewalk Labs
Making money is agenda number one for both companies regardless of what their respective PR departments say.
skidoo··on WiFi can be used to count people with or without electronic gadgets
This is why the concept of free global internet bothers me, as I think it would up the ante in terms of surveillance.
skidoo··on Poll: Should conferences allow talks by those whose politics they don't support?
"Because if you don't stand up for the stuff you don't like, when they come for the stuff you do like, you've already lost." -Neil Gaiman

skidoo··on I quit the tech industry
Financial incentive wasn't attached to labor for the bulk of our species' history though. That's relatively new. Prior, there was working for survival (far less hours per week than today), and beyond that the obvious slavery that was more overt than modern industry. All said, now I think it would take a mother of a global psychogenesis to remind people of benefits to working other than the mere monetary (physical, spiritual, etc). But it is in our genes. We are just lazier than our forefathers, that much less willing to scrub our own toilets and the like unless we can see the carrot at stick's end.
skidoo··on The End of Big Banks Is Nigh
Not without literally tons of bloodshed.
skidoo··on I quit the tech industry
No offense, but I disagree with pretty much all of this. We work more than our ancestors do, not to make an easier life, but for the sake of incorporating the ephemeral and inconsequential into our lives. And an agrarian lifestyle can be loads of fun, actually. I got more of a sense of accomplishment helping on my grandparents' farm than from any blue collar job I've ever held.
skidoo··on Entrepreneurial Advice in Game of Thrones

skidoo··on Schools monitoring pupils' web use with 'anti-radicalisation software'
If only the same programs could be used to block searches for Justin Bieber, Dancing with the Stars, Fast and Furious movies, anything Kardashian, etc.
skidoo··on Ask HN: How can I hack for community service?
Seek out non-profits in your area and volunteer to help build web-presences for them- websites, social networking, etc. Just assisting with spreading the word can do wonders sometimes.

Or go further and offer a contest, of so many hours of your time to whomever raises the most fundage for whatever local community organization.

skidoo··on No One Knows What to Do with Fukushima’s Endless Tanks of Radioactive Water

skidoo··on Surveillance Backlash Could Cost Tech Companies More Than $35B by 2016
Their tax breaks and corporate subsidies will more than cushion them in their hour of supposed need. And I imagine PR like this will enable them to also raise prices here and there, so extra win.
skidoo··on Apple wants you to take charge of your sex life

skidoo··on The hipster is dead, and you might not like who comes next
