sjcsjc··on Researchers Find Further Evidence That Schizophrenia Is Connected to Our Guts
And if it's not the microbiome it's probably something to do with quantum entanglement.
sjcsjc··on Reading in the Age of Constant Distraction
I can think of one non-fiction book in particular that benefits hugely from being read as a summary[0]. The E-Myth contains some great information, but the storytelling style it is written in is absolutely excruciating.

Are you sure? Surely the company itself owns the properties, which is very very different from a controlling family owning the properties.
sjcsjc··on Announcing unlimited free private repos
Ideally, both parties act out of self-interest and both benefit. Thanks, while nice, are not required of either side.

I was recommended yr.no many years ago and find it very accurate. I'm UK-based.

sjcsjc··on The Skylab 4 Mutiny, 1973 (2012)
The wikipedia article has a slightly different perspective:

in the years following the mission the mistakes and disagreements received added scrutiny. Several writers embellished the more dramatic aspects that led to the radio conference, introducing both “strike” and “mutiny” to the interpretation of events. These and other controversial terms continue to be used, even if inaccurately, to describe the hours leading up to the conference between astronauts and mission control.

sjcsjc··on Comparison of the Best NSFW Image Moderation APIs 2018
This is a really good idea.

It makes me smile to think that my 15-year-old self would have loved a feature that did the same but in reverse. That was, of course, a pre-internet, almost porn-free world.

sjcsjc··on Why the Netherlands Is the New Silicon Valley: Eindhoven
I knew nothing about Eindhoven until my daughter went there recently because she's considering going to the Design Academy there.

She told me an inspiring story about Louis Kalff, the designer behind the success of Philips.

"He had written a letter to Anton Philips, President of Philips, to tell him what he thought of the company’s advertising and how it could be improved. Just a few days later he was called into the head office to be offered a job."

The movie implies that he did so:

sjcsjc··on Gerald M. Weinberg has died
Thanks - I did rather mess things up by omitting that.
sjcsjc··on Gerald M. Weinberg has died
There's a great quote on his wikipedia page:

"... while riding a bus in New York City, he observed a mother with eight small children embark. She asked the driver the amount of the fare; he told her that the cost was thirty-five cents, but that children under the age of five could ride for free. When the woman deposited only thirty-five cents into the payment slot, the driver was incredulous. "Do you mean to tell me that all your children are under five years old?" The woman explained that she had four sets of twins. The driver replied, "Do you always have twins?" "No," said the woman, "most of the time we don't have any."

sjcsjc··on Periodic fasting starves cisplatin‐resistant cancers to death
I believe that in this case the term starve might actually be accurate:

"... the inability of ketone bodies metabolization due to various deficiencies in mitochondrial enzymes is the major metabolic changes discovered in malignant cells"
