Very brave to do this once it became clear that Anthropic is probably going to be winning this battle

My gut says they're a lot more emboldened to go full tilt on the tarrifs with the budget bill passed. The plan all along has been to shift from taxes to this to raise revenue for the govt, and with the enormous deficit hit from that they have the cover to say "well we need to balance the budget" etc.

The republicans leadership in the house has put mechanisms in place to prevent reps from challenging the tarrif laws. I don’t think it’d be a cake walk for them to do it through the legislative branch

Howard Lutnick got pulled from the TV sidelines over stuff like this apparently. Bessent is running the show now which is probably why they’re actually responding to the bond market punching them in the face this week

There were people buying 18,000 SPY 510 calls at noon due to expire yesterday at 4pm. That is an absolutely insane thing to do unless you had very sure insider information of an incoming spike

If you’re a manufacturer how quickly can you even stand up a factory in the US and train that factory of workers to produce your item? 3-4 years? What’s the chances republicans still control congress by that time? The presidents continued ability to enforce this relies on controlling both chambers because the tarrifs are being put up under an emergency declaration that congress has the power to override. If you don’t think that’ll continue to be the case in 2 years time it seems very difficult to justify the investment, and if markets continue to crater I would think it would further reinforce this

I moved to the financial district a couple of years ago and I was very happy to find how anti car parts of it can be. I pretty much never hear any street traffic where I live. The narrow streets mean lots of places it isn’t covered in parked cars, there’s low to seemingly no traffic on the weekends, the closed streets around the exchange area is basically a big dog park after working hours.

I’ve looked at a bunch of different apartments this summer with my lease coming up, but I don’t think I want to deal with the noisy other parts of lower manhattan

Well, everything except the professional football team and the basketball team oh and also the giant real estate company. All of the stuff that generates lots and lots of money, which seems like you would want to sell for your trusts big philanthropic mission to have the greatest impact.

Yeah I only found it recently and that seems about right. They're fast which is nice but that doesn't that outweigh the constant info-wars talking points

I'm conflicted with zerohedge because it seems like a decent source for useful market info but also posts so much garbage that I don't really want it in my Twitter feed that much

Destroying Angel and similar mushroom's have a toxin in it which kills some kind of rna enzyme needed for cell's to function properly. Not sure if it exactly fits the bill of DNA shredding but it'll give you irreversible organ failure in a matter of hours

Another step you can do is locating any egg husks on trees in your yard and scraping them off. At the very least it'll keep the nymphs from showing up on those next year.

Penn state ag department has some good resources on the fly

I lived in Pennsylvania near the initial impact zone when these first arrived, in south Jersey a few years later, and moved to new York city about a year ago. The fly is now present in all 3 of these and was when I lived in those spots, but what's interesting is the amount that I see them has decreased every time I visit back to any of these places, particularly in southeast Pennsylvania where I used to see them all the time.

Anyone know why this would be the case? State eradication efforts were in full tilt for about a year or two in 2019 when I saw them all the time in PA, so I'm guessing it's some kind of combination of new predators emerging or the population becoming less dense as it spread out?

Seems to be intentional

Yeah sorry, that's what I'm getting at. The most optimal way to get many supplies now is solely through bossing rather than actually doing the skills. These bosses also drop huge piles of them so their prices have crashed like crazy (herb seeds are one big example)

Runes were the outlier before the rc minigame was added. Bloods have crashed like crazy the past year, nature runes are almost at alch value, which is kinda funny

In the past couple years they added a tax to all GE trades that adds gold to a pool. Part of the pool is deleted and the other part is used to buy back items from players on the market which then also deletes them. This has helped with some rarer boss/raid items but the game still has a real issue with base resource inflation (runes/logs/etc) because the trend recently has been adding these drops to boss tables.

Most of the gold farmers for osrs are just people manually playing the game, especially WRT Venezuela. There's bots for sure, and jagex has come up with good ways to combat some of them, but with gold farmers they can't really do anything about it until they sell the gold.

You'd think that but Ferrari is finding new and innovative ways to throw away pole wins

Last night "write me a nasty message to post in a twitch chat" was returning some of the meanest messages I've ever seen written on the internet

I don't think any major streaming platform has a way to export your playlists without some kind of 3rd party tool

I pretty much flunked outta college my first time around and "Failing and having to repeat grade X" and "Slept through the final" are two of my most common reoccurring nightmares

Yeah I feel that, intimidating for sure. Without Google maps I probably would've been pretty lost as far as the subway goes when I was first learning it, and I can't say that I haven't accidentally taken the R like 3 stops too far already :)

I appreciate the piece; the topic is something I wouldn't have considered without reading it.

It's funny they the author mentions the subway as bad UX here because as someone new to NYC I find it's actually quite easy to tell which line goes to which section from a cursory look at the map. I think the line coloring goes a long way towards that

A lot of the reviews are subject to the same advertising practices. Astroturfing on Reddit in particular has become especially egregious

How's this compare in other cities? Just annecdotally speaking, I feel like I know a lot more people who used to live and work in San Francisco who don't anymore post pandemic, as opposed to friends of mine who left and came back to Austin/New York/Seattle

I'm a fairly inexperienced software engineer (<2 yrs experience) and I've been contacted by 3 separate Amazon recruiters on Linkedin in the past month alone if that means anything
