sidibe··on The inefficiency of RL, and implications for RLVR progress
Ok so now it's stupid or malicious to use RL as reinforcement learning on a blog about AI where everyone in the field has been referring to it as RL forever? Even wikipedia puts (RL) after reinforcement learning.
sidibe··on TPUs vs. GPUs and why Google is positioned to win AI race in the long term
They've actually had many very successful projects that make the few products and acquisitions you are thinking of work. It's true most of their end products don't work or get abandoned but it stretches their infrastructure in ways that works out well in the long run
sidibe··on The Nerd Reich – Silicon Valley Fascism and the War on Democracy
He definitely has talked about a lot of nerdy books. Don't know about his attention span and not sure how to square what he likes with his values. He brings up the Culture all the time but I have my doubts that he's actually read them
sidibe··on Gemini 3 Pro Model Card [pdf]
If not this model, Google at some point is going to get and stay ahead just because they have so many more people and compute resources they can throw at many directions while the others have to make the right choices with how they use their resources each time. Took a while to channel their numbers into a product direction but now I don't think they're going to let up
sidibe··on Grok 4 Fast now has 2M context window
There's a nonzero chance they are not psychopaths. Elon reminds us daily about his chances
sidibe··on SpaceX disables 2,500 Starlink terminals allegedly used by Asian scam centers
The nominal group in power in Myanmar depends on where you are standing and changes with time. The official government has no authority in most of the country.
sidibe··on Elon Musk threatens to leave Tesla if he doesn't get his ridiculous pay
> everybody knows it doesn't make any sense anymore,

The shareholders must not know. Because they can sell whenever they want they don't need to turn the company around. They think Elon is going to put ten billion Optimus out in a few years and the cars are all going to be robotaxis..or they think that more people will think that and send it higher.

sidibe··on The murky economics of the data-centre investment boom
Well there's no circular financing for one thing.
sidibe··on Wikipedia in Danger? Elon Musk's AI-Powered 'Grokipedia' to Go Live in Two Weeks
But this could have the goto articles for people interested in phrenology and eugenics
sidibe··on OpenAI Is Just Another Boring, Desperate AI Startup
I don't disagree that openai is desperate, this is a fierce competition and Google has a pretty huge head start in a lot of ways, but I wonder at what point these people who constantly dismiss LLMs and AI will change their tune? I understand hating it and wishing we could all agree to stop things, I do too, but if you can't find any uses for it at this point it's clear you're not trying
sidibe··on DHH Is Worse Than I Thought
You don't have enough credulity of wealthy people. Just imagine you didn't know anything about what he is talking about and you believe people's success is a good barometer of their expertise. Now what he's saying is amazing! You won't have to drive or do chores in a few years, actually a few years ago even! His stumbling over his words is just his big brain thinking of too many things at once
sidibe··on Scientists say X has lost its professional edge and Bluesky is taking its place
Thankfully X isn't any more of an indicator of the "actual public" than bluesky
sidibe··on Tesla influencers tried coast-to-coast self-driving, hit debris before 60 miles
The reality distortion field is at ATH. Tesla stock is nearing its high, which it had when it was growing quickly and very profitable. Now they are shrinking sales and margins and the stock is soaring again
sidibe··on Tesla influencers tried coast-to-coast self-driving, hit debris before 60 miles
Cameras, like the other lidar-using companies also have, would just like they should here. Teslas problems go beyond a lack of Lidar.
sidibe··on Tesla influencers tried coast-to-coast self-driving, hit debris before 60 miles
Its the only system the manufacturer is willing to let it be employed everywhere. I bet Waymo would work better everywhere but they are safety conscious and care about liability.
sidibe··on Elon Musk trapped Tesla shareholders: give me $1 tril or I won't lie for you
They did it for last year's vote about reinstating his compensation too. And he is proud of not advertising Teslas products
sidibe··on Yes, Jimmy Kimmel's suspension was government censorship
Follow Garry Tan on X
sidibe··on Yes, Jimmy Kimmel's suspension was government censorship
The YC leadership is the people doing the collapsing. Theyve been living for Elon retweets and replies for a while
sidibe··on ABC yanks Jimmy Kimmel’s show ‘indefinitely’ after threat from FCC chair
I don't get your point. FCC chair can violate the first amendment too.
sidibe··on DeepMind and OpenAI win gold at ICPC
Unreliable doesn't mean unusable. I'm finding it harder and harder to believe people are actually trying to use them and saying they are useless.

If you can chop your problem up and give little tedious parts of your bigger task it's starting like doing code review for a new grad instead of coding. And they're getting more reliable and the parts you give it can be bigger and bigger. I wish there was a way to stop this but I don't think it's going to.

sidibe··on Elon Musk calls for dissolution of parliament at far-right rally in London
I think that he wrongly believes, because of his self-created social media bubble, that there's a like-minded majority of people everywhere who want white people back on top of a hierarchy, and if he can just tip things a little bit he can make it happen and he be a great hero for leading it.

I hate to point to people's family but since he has seemingly doubled down on their views I think it's ok to point out his grandparents were pro-Nazi in Canada and moved to South Africa BECAUSE OF apartheid. It's not surprising if he was raised with some strange extreme views

sidibe··on Several people fired after clampdown on speech over Charlie Kirk shooting
I don't know the specifics about most of the firings. I think saying it's good someone was killed is inflammatory and not something people should do and expect no consequences. That MSNBC guy getting fired was ridiculous though. Kirk isn't suddenly due respect and zero criticism because he died.
sidibe··on Tesla offers mammoth $1T pay package to Musk, sets lofty targets
All that stuff is just details. Like with autonomous cars. Elon may be late to the party and slower to execute but he will talk so loudly about it and make sure the media conflates robots with Tesla, so personal robots will basically become his idea.

For Tesla shareholders being the "first" with the idea has incredible value.

sidibe··on Tesla Offers Unprecedented $1T Pay Package to Elon Musk
Cumulative profits have come nowhere near his last pay package yet either that's not what they care about they want the market cap to go up
sidibe··on Tesla Offers Unprecedented $1T Pay Package to Elon Musk
Good that it's not just market cap I suspect he'd find some way to get there.

I also dont doubt if it just came down to it they could claim 1m robotaxis with some words nothing ("Supervised" or "Robotaxi capabilities") whatever state it actually is in, the robots will be trickier.

sidibe··on Grok Code Fast 1
I don't normally like dunking on people because their parents or grandparents were nazi sympathizers who specifically moved to South Africa BECAUSE of Apartheid, but I do think it's fair game when they are trying to one-up that kind of legacy
sidibe··on Elon Musk is lying about Tesla's self-driving and I have the DMs to prove it
Don't need your DMs Fred for something he's been doing so shamelessly and publicly for so long. Consequences take way too long for Elon and persons like him so it doesn't matter. We've been relying too much on powerful people self-regulating according to laws/standards and it has let antisocial people rise to the top
sidibe··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
Space enthusiasts seem quite immune to politics compared to the Tesla consumers, they still hang on his every word when it comes to Starship.

As an ignorant outsider who only watches these Starship launches and doesn't do Kerbal, seems to me like another Cybertruck, where he after super successful model goes all in for big and cool (to him) even if it doesn't work

sidibe··on Google admits anti-competitive conduct involving Google Search in Australia
> The lengths they go to in order to operate in China are magnitudes greater than to operate in the EU, yet EU makes them $10+ billion more profit than China.

> You can substitute Apple for Google or any SV big tech

Except Google pretty much doesn't operate in China and shareholders seem fine with that.

sidibe··on What does Palantir actually do?
It's possible he never actually read them? Another thing Elon would hate that I vaguely remember from one of the Culture books is one of the characters is considered weird for never having been the other sex.
