sidibe··on Gemini 4 Argon
Doesn't make sense for them to give away weights. They sell their own service using that and killing the competition (that they have a stake in) isn't in their interest either because their cloud growth is based on other companies' continuing heavy investment in this space.
sidibe··on Elon Musk and Tesla Forged a New EV Path
They're good at serving popcorn with a teleoperator.
sidibe··on Ask HN: What default model do you use and why?
Gemini 3.8 + antigravity. Opus also in antigravity for harder stuff.
sidibe··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
This move will help Firefox a lot. This is why they've been my browser on mobile for years, now there's a big incentive to switch on desktop
sidibe··on Agents still can't automate Excel
Yeah I don't know what's holding it back in the browser, doing stuff to sheets is fine from antigravity.
sidibe··on Google Maps Faces Fury for Caving to Trump
They could just not do it. Nothing would happen. It's a little moronic that they act so hands off. I get it having a policy is nice for actual controversies between nations but one person wants this (who has probably never used Google Maps), it would be harmless for them to ignore it but instead they piss off half of one country and all of the other.

Complete lack of judgment from whoever made this change happen

sidibe··on Google: Lake Ontario/Lake America name change in the U.S. will appear in Maps
This is pathetic and embarrassing by Google. They're going to hide behind some corporate policy if criticized, but it's so cowardly, there wouldn't have been any consequences for ignoring it
sidibe··on Cursor launches Origin, GitHub alternative
Never going to try it, sorry for anyone at cursor who was excited about what they were working on.
sidibe··on GPT 5.6 Sol is the best "vision" model OpenAI ever released
Do you have cases where you still see 3.1 pro outperforming 3.7 flash?
sidibe··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
Thats a unique definition of Big 3
sidibe··on Discovery Loop
Maybe a little naive for this but given the decades Jeff Dean and Sanjay have been contributing to so many things in the industry and never heard a bad word about either, they never seemed to reach for attention or self promote, going to give them a little more of a cachet of trust.
sidibe··on Apple Will 'Watch Everything Burn' When AI Bubble Bursts
Any YouTube video with him is filled with fawning comments. People love it when others tell them what they want to hear. He'll be able to do his schtick for a long time, well after it should be obvious to everyone the AI is going to change things. I'm not enthusiastic about AI and wish we could pump the breaks somehow but at some point you have to recognize there's something there. I don't think it's helpful that the face of AI criticism says a lot of nonsense.
sidibe··on The Reason Elon Musk Keeps Insisting DOGE Cuts Killed "Zero" Kids
I don't love that they have so much money and wish we had much more progressive taxes and no way out of estate taxes, but people really are letting the pure assholes like Elon off the hook when they lump all billionaires together.
sidibe··on Tesla Balance Bike
And this is a great way for Optimus to get around, so you can add another 1b sales right there.
sidibe··on Short positions in SpaceX reach 32% of float
There's a lot more than that of the non-float that people can't wait to sell. This is just front-running the insiders.
sidibe··on Our Approach to Bioresilience: Isomorphic Labs and Google DeepMind
Google has always shed researchers but they still have way more of them than everybody else.
sidibe··on Waymo reports teen riders for bad behavior and delivers them to the police
> A decent response would have been for the car to simply refuse to continue the ride rather than kidnapping the ne'er-do-wells.

It seems that's what exactly what they did? Except also called the police which seems the responsible thing to do when dropping drunk kids off somewhere

sidibe··on Grok 4.5
Profitability is never a constraint for Elon companies. He has always been able to be able to extract money from the middle east, government, banks, retail investors (or these same parties through his other companies) whenever they need more.

His net worth is orders of magnitude bigger than the cumulative profits his companies have ever produced (even if you only count the profitable quarters)

sidibe··on 45°C cooling design cuts data center water use to near zero
This has also one of the arguments against AC in France, shame on you for wanting to moving the hot air from inside to outside.
sidibe··on John Jumper to join Anthropic
Google has been bleeding talent for decades, though few people have ever heard of them before they left google. Like when John Giannendra left it was the first time I'd ever heard of him but it was made out like he was a key person and big blow for Google. Every self driving car company came out of ex Google people as well, same w/OpenAi. The thing is Google research orgs have always been much bigger than any competitors, they'll be shedding people forever but there's a lot more where that came from
sidibe··on Americans express unease over SpaceX's influence on retirement savings
The whole IPO was designed to be like a short squeeze where index funds have to buy soon but there's not enough shares. For the little float that's available they are weighting it significantly more than they should by previous rules. They need to have tens of billions worth of what was 70 billion by next week, and retail investors who got in on the IPO were told by their brokers if they sell early on they will not get to participate in future IPOs.

There were not enough shares actually trading for the index funds to fulfill their requirements that's why the price keeps going up

sidibe··on SpaceX IPO Is a Giant Unworkable Con
There's not enough shares being traded to meet the requirements of the index funds. This is exactly why they had the rules of about having enough float and not being added to the indeces right away. the people who waived those rules need to be held accountable when this pops.

Brokers told retail they couldn't participate in future IPOs if they sell, funds have 15 days to get a hold of a certain percent of their holdings worth of shares, but it's more than there are available. So the shares that are available are going have to keep going up until they are worth the total amount that all the funds based on Nasdaq 100 need in their holdings.

This was designed to be a like a massive short squeeze right out of the gate, tons of forced demand chasing very few shares available.

sidibe··on How much of Elon Musk's wealth comes from government help? Virtually all of it
People are well incentivized to gas him up or they don't want to cross his cultists so it's just easier to go along with it. Just listen to him talk with confidence about something you know about and extrapolate rather than trusting what someone else is saying about him.
sidibe··on SpaceX's president is floating a Tesla merger as the company begins trading
Elon or his cousins will have to start a new company with some fresh funding soon he is running out of opportunities to merge one company into another together with ever worse financials and ever better valuations.

Maybe it can be a teleportation company? Imagine the TAM for that.

sidibe··on Elon Musk Becomes First Trillionaire as SpaceX Starts Trading
It'll end in suicide or OD. Every time he pulls off a coup like forcing huge indices to buy and hold massive amounts of $80 billion float he delays the inevitable but in the end his puffery will collapse at some point.

I feel second hand embarrassment for all the bankers and analysts who have felt the need to pump this

sidibe··on Apple reveals new AI architecture built around Google Gemini models
> 19 years later, it's probably time to be pragmatic again

These 2 have always been very pragmatic. They compete in an area or two but there is also a lot of money flowing both ways.

sidibe··on Elon, stop trying to make Grok happen
Probably because Elon said it's better. Same reason some people own a cybertruck
sidibe··on Japan’s robot wolf sells out as record bear attacks drive demand
They wouldn't have had to worry about bears or wolves if they had driven them both to extinction like many parts of the world
sidibe··on Elon Musk Summoned to France to Face Criminal Charges
St Barts for example.. he'll have to look elsewhere for the wildest parties
sidibe··on Fear and denial in Silicon Valley over social media addiction trial
It's not just the scrolling, the posting side too. They all randomly boost one of your posts so suddenly tons of feedback (especially noticable when I tried threads) and then you try to get that back again. The uncertainty keeps you at it
