shuri··on 25,000 People Sign Petition to Remove Aaron Swartz's Prosecutors
there's a fine line between fighting bullying and bullying the bullies.
shuri··on Prosecutor as bully
An attempt to set academic knowledge free should be celebrated and commended not penalized. Certainly not used to bully people like this.
shuri··on Why Are People More Scared of Facebook Violating Their Privacy than Washington?
because the government used to be accountable
shuri··on Kickstarter is Not a Store
It takes a lot of character to look at a lot of money in the eye and say no thanks.
shuri··on The new Hulu
Very nice. Some thoughts.

The old slideshow was amazingly annoying. You click, it slides by slowly but doesn't reveal the text. You wait some more until the text slowly fades in...nope not interesting. You click again. I would still make the text fade in faster.

The new layout looks very nice. I would make the hover details appear faster as well, only a sliver of time after the play button appears.

The title in the hover-details should be more obviously clickable. Personally, I really don't like having to blindly mouse around until I stumble upon something clickable (even though it seems like the trendy thing to do).

shuri··on How to Write a Malcolm Gladwell Book
I liked outliers. It could have been more direct but I liked it.
shuri··on Advice for Marissa Mayer from an ex-Yahoo
I suspect people will disagree but my top two would be: 1. Yahoo is not Google and that's o.k 2. Take the time to understand Yahoo before doing anything drastic.
shuri··on Magenta - "It is fully binary compatible with iPhone OS 5.0"
very cool
shuri··on LeakedIn
If the hole that let them in hasn't been closed yet, changing the password will make that password vulnerable, right?
shuri··on Godaddy No Longer Just Doesn’t Support But Actually “Opposes” SOPA
So what would you do if you were Godaddy? I say it would have to come from Daddy himself. He would have to say something to the effect of: Obviously we have mistepped here and we are taking it as a wake-up call. We are here because of our customers and in the future we will do all we can to listen to them and defend their interests and rights. Later actually do that.

shuri··on Chrome extension: 2-clicks "like" button.
I agree with the general sentiment of more respect for the users privacy. However, if you don't block all facebook social widgets completely, facebook will receive that information anyway and then this just seems like an inconvenience. Right?
shuri··on Developer open-sources 200+ hr project after client refuses to pay
I wonder if he has the rights to use the code himself and/or allow others to use the code. The code is likely a product of a combination of specs, discussions, and his own work.
shuri··on What technologies are under your site
my 2c. Nice design (graphics). I would make the first page seem less busy. BuiltWith is going to be a tough competitor. You need to match them (precision/recall) and add stuff that they don't have (trending techs? Add info: who is the host provider? where in the world is it hosted? Response times? Bad link stats?...?)
shuri··on Google to Retire Blogger & Picasa Brands in Google+ Push
It's really nice to see Google with a clear direction, operate with determination, going "all in", consolidate it's different offerings into something that will, I'm guessing, be greater than the sum of the parts.
shuri··on Why you should build an open-source startup
I was hoping to see more discussion on the actual premise here. For example, should dropbox open source? Should squarespace open source? What did reddit get out of open sourcing (karma?)? Wordpress obviously benefited from of an amazing supporting complementary ecosystem at the same time they turned their own product into a commodity. Love to hear what you think.
shuri··on Start-ups Rejected By Y Combinator (And Investors) Flock To YC Reject
What would be interesting is if a random set of the unaccepted got the same opportunities as the accepted. But that's not possible...

Instead what yc needs to do is accept a control group and see if there is any correlation between being chosen and eventual success. Then again...

shuri··on Burned by Twitter, Developers Launch Distributed Microblogging Service
The question is how can you get UberMedia on board.
shuri··on Procrastination and Perfectionism
This is a relevant research paper I found interesting: "Several differences exist between healthy perfectionists and the dysfunctional perfectionists..."

shuri··on Why Reddit's been slow lately (dev group post)
In memcached, caching smaller things should allow more to be cached. On the Postgres side, when the disks are hard at work any access is expensive but reading less should still help. Depending on the query you can try to get it to read less. In other situations maybe just turn stuff off. I don't know the specifics but simple things like not displaying the exact number of comments may help (counting stuff can be frustratingly expensive sometimes).
shuri··on Why Reddit's been slow lately (dev group post)
Start with graceful degradation when things get tough? (Less comments, top friends,...).
shuri··on Google closes Issue 9
