shousper··on Alibaba I.P.O. May Unleash Global Fight Over Users
lol, try living in Australia.
shousper··on Ripple – Chat with people nearby
Who cares? If I'm on a train heading home, I don't want my conversation terminated because I get too far away. Just link the rooms to one or more relevant locations so people can find them initially, then let people favourite them or whatever so they can rejoin later without having to be in that location.

Yeah?

EDIT: typo.

shousper··on Real-time applications and will Django adapt?
Anything is possible.
shousper··on What Every Software Developer Must Know About Unicode (2003)
I wonder how hard it'd be to get JavaScript/ECMAScript onto a better encoding.. Do we actually have a "better" encoding?
shousper··on Dark Matter Developers != Bad Developers
Seconded. I've never gone to conferences though, but I've always felt I learn more via online sources and/or experience. I've been trying more Twitter recently, but honestly I think I'm giving more than I'm getting from it..
shousper··on Friends don't let friends use Eclipse
This is probably abundantly clear, but someone has to say it. You need to refactor that beast and split it out into separate files for development. Add a build process to smash it all together for you. End of story.
shousper··on How to Build a Secret Facebook
Here I was hoping for a new, cool and exciting open source facebook clone :(
shousper··on Processing 6 billion records in 4 seconds on a home PC
So, I found this from back in 2011: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ibm-patent-gpu-accelerated-... However, I couldn't find any commercial or even (active) open source projects on this topic. It seems like something that would be valuable to businesses working with big data, so what's the hold up? Has nobody reached this scale yet? Is it still too expensive? I don't get it.. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
shousper··on Gabe Newell: Linux is the future of gaming, new hardware coming soon
What are blu-rays like for the rising 4K/UHD resolution? If that takes off, could we be looking at new format requirements? Higher bandwidth? Higher capacity? What about 3D? What about beyond that, holographic?

I don't know. This is all speculation, but I would grant Gabe the benefit of the doubt here. Over the next.. 5+ years, who knows what the entertainment world might be like?

shousper··on How not to check the validity of an email address
Or more simply, you can't help people who don't want to be helped =)
shousper··on High Performance Networking in Google Chrome
I used to have the same gripe with Firefox for a good couple years. Turned out my profile had.. something.. in it that was slowing down nearly every activity. I'd strongly suggest nuking your Chrome profile and any other lurking config or cache if you can. In my experience, old browser profiles seem to sometimes hide slow juice as it were, haha.
shousper··on The Imperfect Craft
For now perhaps.. I think the point he was trying to make is that even those areas are changing over time. Who is to say eventually that hardware or a language won't make them redundant? Just look at the leaps and bounds Go is making for example.
shousper··on Defeated
If you weren't alone, maybe things would of been different?
shousper··on US court rules masking IP address to access blocked Website violates law
Because anyone with half a clue knows that anything you put on the Internet isn't safe. Law bound or otherwise, lol
shousper··on WebKit has implemented srcset
Apparently? I'm also not a fan of the value format, let alone the attribute name. Beggers can't be choosers though. Glad we're getting somewhere.
shousper··on What coding mnemonics do you use?
Do you have one for border-radius? Because I still can't remember the order of those..
shousper··on What coding mnemonics do you use?
Normally, this would honestly be a moment when I'd question if you were trolling, maybe post the fry meme image.. but. Given the topic, I actually believe you O_O
shousper··on Why Nobody Should Use Rails
Hmm, I didn't think it took any of them years to rearchitect per se? Regardless, somebody has to do it =) I for one am grateful for these giants pushing our current platforms and languages to their limits. On top of that, they've gone and found solutions, all in their own ways to solve the problem of scaleability. No?
shousper··on Obama Administration Vetoes Apple Product Ban
Definitely not a dictatorship. Definitely not.
shousper··on Why write a 3D engine from scratch?
I used to do this kind of stuff for fun in my high school days. Now I don't have the time =( Kill to be able to get into game dev professionally (without winding up in a sweatshop, lol)
shousper··on Kapi: Silex-based PHP micro-framework
Not bad, I would of followed php-fig standards for the file layout though. This would also help with camus's point about making it easily pluggable.
shousper··on Some thoughts about Packer
I really don't see why ruby is such a pain for ops.. rvm is dead simple to get up and running, is it not?
shousper··on "Microsoft engineer" on Xbox1
So we're going to have to pay more for multiplayer editions? o.O Gaming used to be fun.. Whatever happened to creating something for the pure joy of it? Oh.. right.. capitalism.
shousper··on How Bitcoin Can Bring Down The United States Of America
Wow.. Is not one person even willing to entertain the idea?

"Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." - Bill Hicks.

shousper··on EFF Makes Formal Objection to DRM in HTML5
Perhaps we should workd on the economic will of the people..
shousper··on Rails 4.0: Release Candidate 1 released
Hmm.. ~1 month out from starting alpha testing of my app, do I update now, or later. Decisions..
shousper··on PHP Commandments
The more of these posts I read, the more I believe most PHP programmers (as a majority) really aren't "clean coders" or have any intention of writing organised, maintainable. More likely they are just coders who write what they have to, whatever works and takes the least amount of time to get the job done.

A sweatshop language? Haha, no I take that back, it's not like that..

shousper··on This is Why You Test Your Regular Expressions
Cool service, should come in handy. Thanks!
shousper··on What Bitcoin Is Teaching Us
What happens when we don't need to exchange BTC for another currency anymore? Or will BTC be forever inherently dependant on the existence of a government controlled currency? How would we price things in BTC like groceries or salaries? Would that be always changing because the value of BTC would be forever going up? I'm probably talking beyond our lifetime here..
shousper··on PayPal terminated my account because I use a VPN
Cash will be dead before you know it. So will ATMs and bank tellers.
