I'm sure it still has its place in the world, just maybe not for an app with the complexities built into Charm? .. perhaps.
One might suspect the same could become of other genres cough FPS cough ;)
Unless you're only using these images for client demos, it can be very slow and frustrating waiting for them to load every time you refresh while trying to do html, css or js tweaks.
Twitter, Google+, WoW, TV, radio, magazines, whatever. They all pale in comparison to the amount of time and effort =wasted= on Facebook. Discussing meaningless things, liking meaningless posts or comments, or pages about meaningless things, photos of meaningless things.
It doesn't matter how many people or pages you subscribe, like or friend who _might_ talk or be about something important in the world, your "feed" will be chock full of rubbish by the thousands of other posts about NOTHING.
Forgive the brutality here, but why do you need to read on Facebook how someone is feeling? If they're important enough to you to care how they feel, shouldn't they be around you? Within arms reach? Why do you need to see what someone had for lunch? Why do you need to share pictures of you and your friends drunk? Why do you need to see scenic photos of places your friends or family have been? Why do you need to know about everyone's birthday?
Why do you care? Really?
For all the time you spend absorbing this information, what good does it do you or anyone else? Is it creating homes or jobs for those with nothing? Is it curing cancer? Is it feeding starving children? Is it teaching anyone anything useful that could improve their life? How about the planet? Is it fixing the ozone? Is it cleaning the air we breathe? Or even you, specifically? Is it putting food on your table? Is it putting clothes on your back? Is it paying your bills? Is it quenching your thirst? Is it?
No.
It's flooded with useless information that everyone wastes copious quantities of time and energy consuming that could be spent on any number of better activities.
You know what I'm talking about.
/rant. waits for the hellban
In other words, probably wait for Windows 9? =P
To make it a better offering, I would probably add sample custom payment gateway "proxies" in common languages (i.e. PHP, Ruby, etc.) for security.
What I mean by proxy is provide some generic server-side code as a middle man for the payment gateway which can confirm the details of an order (on your server) haven't been tampered with before forwarding onto the actual gateway (PayPal, etc.)
This way, the shops who don't mind dealing with dodgy purchases can run 100% client-side, while more others can use this feature to prevent invalid orders being created.
Am I talking sense, or day dreaming and missing a big inherent flaw?
Then on your confirmation page, just have a nice "Thank you for your donation. Unfortunately, you won't be receiving any goods. Please see our TOS for details."
Probably illegal though >_>
I wish there were more people in my office who thought like you and I.
Even over the course of 12 months I can see improvements in my approaches problem solving, code structure, and where I got lazy, haha.
Also, see my reply to DustinCalim's comment.
I'd even go so far as to say that several hundred thousand years of evolution would back me up. Otherwise, why can't we see perfectly in the dark?
EDIT: typo.
Probably as likely as world peace, but it's fun to dream :)
EDIT: The suggestion alone could be enough to incite some creative out there to give it a go! The power of ideas and all that :D
I'm thinking the author has maybe generalised too much. Never mind that they didn't reference the source(accuracy) of their information.
EDIT: To be clear, by toys I'm talking about pc/console games, books, apps, etc.
These social giants have mountains of information about millions (billions?) of people on this planet, and a legal right to keep it and do pretty much whatever they want with it.
This "game" will never end. Your save data will never be erased. You will likely be reminded of that for years to come.
Maybe it's this lightspeed cultural advancement that makes it all seem so drawn out, but it sure feels like nothing is or has changed for the long term better.
Seriously though, that would never happen and we all know why. The question is: what can be done about it?
Honestly, what can we/I/you do?
I guess we'll have to wait and see!
So should malware authors all figure out what Flame (or other more advanced malware) is doing, and how to do it themselves, eventually current day AV _will_ be useless.
No?
