shmde··on Love after life: Richard Feynman's letter to his departed wife (2017)
Didnt he cheat on wife with his PhD students, had numerous flings and flirted with other peoples wives ?
shmde··on About half of Bandcamp employees have been laid off
Why is bandcamp so big ? I could do that in a weekend.
shmde··on The UN Risks Normalizing Internet Censorship
"The United Nations’ main internet governance body will host its next international forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In 2025, the UN may take its discussions on the future of an open internet to Russia."

The opening line reads like an Onion article.

shmde··on Ask HN: What is your experience with Nano-Hydroxyapatite toothpaste?
Does the canadian version say "thank you" after you brush with it ?
shmde··on Vercel employee used customer information to pursue a personal trademark matter
I started off with hooks and started learning about class components just to clear interviews and damn it provides clarity of when, how components are gonna re-render. If you can get past the HOC hell hole and the "this.add = this.add.bind(this)". I felt it made it very clear how and in what order things run. Its definitely true when OP said if things did not get so clear with class components we would never have gotten hooks.
shmde··on Vercel employee used customer information to pursue a personal trademark matter
If you self host a NextJS app and vercel copies your product can you sue them ?
shmde··on F-Droid version of KDEConnect uninstalled by PlayProtect
I swear on God. Just 2 days back playstore decided to auto update my installed apps. The thing is I have them disabled by default. I cancelled the update, switched off the wifi. But once I turned it back on, it started auto updating again.
shmde··on The whole of the Whole Earth Catalog is now online
Growing up with World Book Encyclopedia and Encyclopedia Britannica for Windows 98 this just looks more metal and punk versions of it.
shmde··on Dracula – Dark theme for 300 apps
Probably using the special <Image /> tag on NextJS which they charge a premium for. NextJs claims to be a static site generator too but doesnt allow optimised images at build time for static sites.
shmde··on Google Removes the Photo Sphere Mode from the Pixel 8 Camera
What makes you think Pegasus doesn't have 0 Day for Android/Windows/Linux ?
shmde··on CSS is, in fact, awesome (2021)
I will get downvoted but have you used Tailwind CSS ? Makes writing frontend way easier for me now. (still struggle at it but less)
shmde··on California mandates VC firms to release investments' diversity information
As a Non American reading the article title Vs what it actually is felt like an O'Henry surprise ending. Also why is America so obsessed with race ?
shmde··on Self-Hosting (Almost) All the Way Down [video]
You commented on the wrong article. The "Lenovo exec promises 80% of its devices will be consumer-repairable by 2025" is here.[1]

shmde··on Writing code with pencil and paper (2022)
I got blacklisted from an MNC in India because I was writing up the logic for the algorithm problem on paper and the camera flagged me as cheating on the coding test. Its weird cause since childhood we were forced to use pen and paper to solve math/physics/chemistry problems and now you get flagged on online tests for using it. I just cannot do the "thinking" part of the code with my keyboard and IDE.
shmde··on Dear Spotify, stop treating your users like testers
Spotify try not to update my windows client on every restart *Impossible Challenge!!!!*
shmde··on Narges Mohammadi wins 2023 Nobel Peace Prize

shmde··on Most demographers now predict that human population will plateau
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Their growth rate is more than Christianity and Hinduism combined.

shmde··on The TRON Project: How Japan almost ruled IT (2022)
Why is using a particular backup software solution related to it. Maybe they are using tarsnap or blackblaze ?
shmde··on Mistral releases ‘unmoderated’ chatbot via torrent

shmde··on A peek into Argentina’s video game scene
While torrenting(vidya)there are a lot of folks that seed and leech. Majority of them are from Argentina and Brazil. So happy they have a vibrant gaming culture.
shmde··on Apple exec Eddy Cue set to testify in Google trial about $19B search deal
> Google often sends me captchas while using a VPN.

Even Yandex.com has started to send me captchas. Once I encounter a captcha page I quickly switch over to bing or ddg. No time for the captcha bullshit.

shmde··on Hide job listings from companies you are not interested on LinkedIn
Conspiracy theory time: I have been applying to a lot of companies on LinkedIn. I noticed something strange. Many companies would have 30-40K followers but just 1-2 employees. They have tonnes of openings for a variety of roles. You can do the easy apply. I feel they are just harvesting your CV/Resumé and selling it.
shmde··on “What If Linus Torvalds Gets Hit by a Bus?” – An Empirical Study (2000)
> (why the post at all OP?)

Who the heck even are you to tell me what tech related posts I can or cannot post here. The audacity lmao.

> Why the web archive link?

Because the web archive post is what I was reading and didn't know the author had their own website called crummy. Thanks for the link.

shmde··on LARPing and Violent Extremism
> In the modern era, as extreme beliefs (e.g., anti-government or anti-law enforcement movements)

Fbi quietly putting psyops telling anti- government is extreme belief lmao.

shmde··on India's biggest tech centers named as cyber crime hotspots
Cops are paid a share most probably for them to continue scamming.
shmde··on Tesla buys German railway line, now hosting passenger trains
This is so much bullshit. Just because your government refuses to build passenger railways and push car centric infra doesnt mean "Railways cover only so much area". Very difficuly to reach regions like islands/mountaineous terrains ? Then maybe.
shmde··on Facebook is blocking Canadians’ posts on the assassination of a BC Sikh leader
He was as much as a "leader" as Osama Bin Laden was a "leader" for Al-Qaeda. The group the "terrorist" belonged to committed the world's deadliest act of aviation terrorism until the September 11 attacks in 2001. They were responsible for assasinating Indias Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Feels weird reading the western world feeling sympathetic for a group which commits acts of terrorism.
shmde··on Some new snippets from the Snowden documents
My conspiracy theory is that AES 256 has been cracked by NSA/CIA but they just shut up about it so everyone feels safe.
shmde··on California woman loses limbs after battling bacterial infection from tilapia
I had no idea Talapia posed the risk of carrying infections this severe. Me and my dad used to catch a lot of Tilapia in a nearby pond because they were dumb as rocks. Put in the same atta/wheat dough bait and they would come to the exact same place their fish friends got hooked. The fish tastes like absolute ass though, I dont understand why its so popular in the US.
