shimon_e··on Malaysia Officials, Saying Missing Jet Was Diverted, Open Criminal Inquiry
Anyone with access to Expert Flyer can see exactly how many seats are being sold for any given flight.
shimon_e··on Malaysia Officials, Saying Missing Jet Was Diverted, Open Criminal Inquiry
This is being mentioned on flyertalk. The maximum amount of bookable tickets was 50 less than the actual amount of seats. They had 4 passengers on standby which were only allowed to board after 5 passengers were no shows.
shimon_e··on Malaysia Officials, Saying Missing Jet Was Diverted, Open Criminal Inquiry
Exactly.
shimon_e··on Malaysia Officials, Saying Missing Jet Was Diverted, Open Criminal Inquiry
The cargo list for this flight has still not been released. The max amount of passengers allowed to board this flight was 50 less than the number of available seats. Suggesting the flight was carrying heavy cargo.
shimon_e··on Expert Was Needed to Disable Malaysia Airlines Jet Systems
Cargo. The cargo list has still not been released. It is speculated that the cargo was heavy as the max amount of passengers was 50 less than the number of seats.

Do you think ubuntu will be hiring package maintainers to rewrite all the init scripts so it can continue importing debian packages into universe?
shimon_e··on Lenovo to acquire Motorola Mobility
Yeah they do. Heck even the Yoga 8 uses MTK.

shimon_e··on Lenovo to acquire Motorola Mobility
> At $12.5B, Motorola is Google’s largest acquisition to date. Google paid $40 / share in cash, but received ~$11 / share in cash and $8 / share in deferred tax assets. Thus the value ascribed to operations + patents was about $21 / share, or $6.3B, reflecting a multiple of ~0.5x sales and 12x EBITDA. Now adjusting this further for the $2.35B total consideration Google is expected to receive for the Motorola Home business, we get a purchase price of just under $4B for Motorola's handset business and patent portfolio (17K patents and 7.5K patent applications).

shimon_e··on How I “hacked” Kayak and booked a cheaper flight
Flight price quotes can take the currency and sales city as input. You get to play with both those options in ITA matrix.

What you saw is probably based on those inputs being changed.

shimon_e··on Dell Wasn't Joking About That 28-Inch Sub-$1000 4K Monitor; It's Only $699
I could do it if anyone wants help me financially or with marketing. I've got many years of direct factory sourcing in China. First came here a decade ago and I've been living here for the most part of the past 3 years.

Is there a way to be contacted through HN?

It shouldn't be long before some Korean/Chinese factory starts selling these for half price on ebay.

shimon_e··on Amazon Prime Air
We already have this in China. The SF Express has been testing these for years. Just last year we got the drop off boxes that amazon has been installing in 7-11s installed into our building. It's used for all package deliveries not just amazon.

it will be interesting to see how this competes against the Chinese competitors in this arena. Just yesterday Gionee announced the E7 for about the same price. A phone that includes a camera sensor from a point and shoot.

shimon_e··on OVH Forum – Turnover on dedicated servers
I've been with OVH for a few years now. Historical when they have advertised the server will be ready in 1 hour it is. The problem with the new range was that they were simply too popular. So much so that OVH's hardware partners could not deliver the hardware fast enough. They got something like 15,000 orders for just one type of server in about a day. That is 10% growth in their total server count in just one day! Sooo maybe you could cut the a little slack?

Actually the cheap servers are suppose to be for personal use. They lack hard disk raid, proper support, and have the lowest priority for hardware replacements.

shimon_e··on OVH Forum – Turnover on dedicated servers
A kickass cloud offering could be the solution.

shimon_e··on Show HN: Help programmers from Syria get jobs elsewhere
Obviously the suggestion is stupid as both the rebels and the Syrian forces have mutual enemies that they both would use chemical weapons on.

I don't think Israel will allow an enemy guerrilla army from being armed with chemical weapons.

The real issue here is that Russia has vowed to protecting the Assad regime. This conflict is ultimately a proxy war.

The real question I have is why Russia is protecting Assad? Is it just a question of support what in their eyes is the lesser of two evils or is it a case of RDF?

shimon_e··on Show HN: Help programmers from Syria get jobs elsewhere
No one is denying that there was a chemical attack. The question is how big it was. If it was just a small attack then it could have been the rebels dropping a bag of sarin gas. But if it is confirmed it was a large attack that could have only been launched by payload thus it must have come from the Syrian army. Leaving two possibilities. A rogue element from within the army or the Assad regime.
