shampine··on Tesla Cybertruck Pricing and Specs
Probably referring to a section 179 deduction which gives you a $25k deduction on your taxable income for vehicles that weigh more than 6000lbs.
shampine··on Is social audio already dead?
We use Google Meet, which offers a live + stream feature for large groups. Most folks join the stream over the live meet. But within an ~hour after the all hands it's available directly in the calendar invite to rewatch.

It seems like a solved problem?

shampine··on Avoid Surprise Bills from AWS
Generally tokenization is done by some vault or processor. I don't know how Amazon operates internally, due to their scale means it's probably all in house. But Visa does have token representations and they do also have visa account updater (which keeps visa/merchants in sync for saved instruments .. e.g. Netflix). I've never seen the token implemented, generally just some vault (Braintree, Spreedly, etc). And if you are typing in a 15/16 digit number it's likely being vaulted/tokenized but not by the issuer but by the merchant/processor.
shampine··on It's virtually impossible to read old iMessages and they take up tons of storage
I took this approach many years ago to get them into a pdf. Was able to with minimal headache iirc.
shampine··on Does storing bread in the fridge make it last longer? (2019)
About the same as a bluth banana.

Generally $3-$5.

shampine··on A look at modern PHP
Writing modern php 7.2+ and creating a WordPress plugin is akin to time traveling. The experience in WordPress is not so great but they have a commitment to backwards compatibility. So I get it. But ya, I agree with this statement.
shampine··on Tell HN: Mailgun lowers free-tier API from 10k to 625 emails per month
I was trying to reason how they hit that number this morning. I'm guessing probably average or mean is much lower.

shampine··on 2017 Was Bad for Facebook. 2018 Will Be Worse
It's absolutely worth it. I also started unfollowing people while remaining "friends". My stream is so curated I can get 5 mins of FB a day to see all I want to see.
shampine··on 2017 Was Bad for Facebook. 2018 Will Be Worse
This is starting to break for me. I am getting content now (mostly pages) where that button is missing. I only use the website and whenever I browse my feed I actively filter content. I'm seeing it all start to bubble up again.
shampine··on Blue Apron Plans to Cut 24% of Staff Barely a Month After IPO
Yes it seems that way and the headline is extremely misleading.
shampine··on On Password Managers
There is also a serious bug regarding 2FA. There is a race condition where if you know a users master password you can bypass 2FA for 1 single login.

Apparently someone commented below that is a documented "feature". Wow.

shampine··on More contributions on your profile
Only if you remove your work email from your account. I still have green boxes for things I don't have access to. But I made sure to leave my work email in my account settings, if you remove it, then you lose all the green boxes.
shampine··on More Than 40% of Student Borrowers Aren’t Making Payments
Worked fine incognito for me.
shampine··on Choose GitLab for your next open source project
I will be honest, the switch from self compiled MySql to Omnibus Postgres was not so great for me and my team. But. We love GitLab, and now that we are on Omnibus I get updates done in < 5 mins. Thank you all for building an amazing piece of software. Also kudos to your team, even as a CE user you have helped me resolve a bug or two here and there. It's been a great ride. I wouldn't trade our GitLab in for anything.
shampine··on SourceForge Acquisition and Future Plans
This exactly. The fact that uBlock Origin has anything from them in their block list is telling. They became the worst, there is no coming back from the that.
shampine··on High Salaries Haunt Some Job Hunters
I think they are dropping a cookie when you visit and hit the paywall then try to access the article through Google. Incognito works.
shampine··on GitHub is apparently in crisis again
Simply put, you could have just answered the question. I wouldn't have asked it if you were clear about your meaning.
shampine··on GitHub is apparently in crisis again
Adding emphasis to an empty word doesn't give it meaning. You answered my question but first you prefaced with asking me why I can't read your mind.
shampine··on GitHub is apparently in crisis again
Why do you feel you would need to review the entire codebase to deploy Gitlab? It is an apt-get installation now that they ported to Omnibus. The days of debugging gem errors on compile and migrating by hand are over.
shampine··on Apple’s declining software quality
I'm so glad both my work and personal machines are still on 10.9. I've been contemplating updating, but everything I've ready continues to say I shouldn't.
shampine··on Dropbox May Not Be LeBron James, but Is Still in the Game
Safety.

Edit: It was probably a reference to that it is "preinstalled" on retail machines.
