sgloutnikov··on _for-sale DNS records
Reminded me of a Planet Money podcast episode with the milk.com owner, who also had early internet years domains. Fun listen if people are interested. [0]

sgloutnikov··on SQLite is all you need for durable workflows
It's close enough that DBOS does support SQLite. [0] The default for prototyping is SQLite, but sure you can run it in production if you wanted.

Obligatory list of workflow engines and libraries because it's such a common need that a lot have rolled their own. [1]

sgloutnikov··on Native Instant Space Switching on macOS
Just simpler to navigate and less cognitive load, pressing a key and going where you want to go. Here's a video from ThePrimeagen with some examples.

Same boat and whoa this looks nice! Will give it a try thank you!
sgloutnikov··on Block the “Upgrade to Tahoe” alerts
It's possible if you do a wipe and do a fresh install. You essentially boot into the Sequoia installer. I'm also looking at possibly picking up a M5 MBP and was the first things I looked into.
sgloutnikov··on Nvidia's 10-year effort to make the Shield TV the most updated Android device
No thanks. Downgraded to 8.2.3 years ago and going strong with a custom launcher. Has absolutely everything I need and nothing that I don’t.

This was the guide back then, possibly still works. [0]

sgloutnikov··on Macron says €300B in EU savings sent to the US every year will be invested in EU
Total deposits in the bank accounts sure. I understood it as they deposited 100B of their cash into their bank accounts by November.
sgloutnikov··on Macron says €300B in EU savings sent to the US every year will be invested in EU
Those numbers are quite off. The total amount of Leva in circulation at the end of 2024 was round 30B. End of November 2025 in circulation around 23B.
sgloutnikov··on Microsoft Copilot AI Comes to LG TVs, and Can't Be Deleted
The Shield Pro is perfect for me and I have no reason to upgrade. Have mine downgraded and de-bloated using this guide [0] running a custom launcher. Like you said being Android and more open helps a lot.

sgloutnikov··on Ground stop at JFK due to staffing
Kennedy Steve is a legend, loved listening to JFK when he was on. Here's an interview with him for the fans if they have missed it [0].

sgloutnikov··on Disable AI in Firefox
Was shocked last night seeing a quite annoying Acrobat Reader with AI commercial during the NBA game.

sgloutnikov··on Cloudflare is sponsoring Ladybird and Omarchy
The install script is still there, you don't have to use the ISO [0]. I prefer to do my own btrfs subvolumes, partitioning, tweaks, etc and just run the script after a base install. Uninstalling anything is a matter of seconds from the provided menus.

sgloutnikov··on B-Trees: More Than I Thought I'd Want to Know
Great article! Here's one more, including animations on B-trees: https://planetscale.com/blog/btrees-and-database-indexes
sgloutnikov··on Ask HN: How to store and share passwords in a company?
Other than the popular password managers mentioned you can try Password Pusher [0]. It's open source, can be self-hosted, and has options like expire link after n loads or days.

sgloutnikov··on Cleaning up my 200GB iCloud with some JavaScript
What about the Photos app on MacOS if you have one? I keep a local copy of my iCloud Photo Library and sync it through the MacOS Photos app.

sgloutnikov··on The Cloud Computer
Unfortunately they are not planning home lab things anytime soon, per a recent podcast episode [0].

If you want to play around with their Hubris OS: "You wanna buy an STM32H753 eval board. You can download Hubris, and then you’ve got – you’ve got an Oxide computer. You have it for 20 bucks.”

sgloutnikov··on Java 21 makes me like Java again
I've heard this argument before, and I point out Kubernetes to them. Is that code base complex enough, because it's pure Go doing just fine and runs on plenty of systems?
sgloutnikov··on Why do software nowadays take so much more memory and processing power (2020)
A quote from Henry Petroski that has stuck with me:

“The most amazing achievement of the computer software industry is its continuing cancellation of the steady and staggering gains made by the computer hardware industry.”

Last I tried Authy I think it wanted me to create an account and give my phone number, so I noped out.
sgloutnikov··on Google Authenticator now supports Google Account synchronization
If you are on the Apple ecosystem, I highly recommend OTP Auth [0]. Very friendly UI with encrypted cloud backup where you control the key.

sgloutnikov··on Google combines Maps and Waze teams in restructuring move
I am exactly one of those users which you describe and only use Waze for long trips and Maps for the rest. Waze urban navigation drives me crazy with the route it picks sometimes, hoping of shaving off a few seconds.
sgloutnikov··on Memento mori
Recently heard it from Scott Galloway on the Pivot podcast in regards to Musk.
sgloutnikov··on Crypto dominoes fall in the wake of FTX's collapse
It's just a blip in a way. The entire global crypto market cap has gone down around $800B, roughly the same market cap that Amazon has lost recently.
sgloutnikov··on KDE beats macOS
For moving files between folders tabs in Finder works fine, you don't even need a new window.
