sentientslug··on Tokyo has only two barley tea makers, we visited one to see how mugicha is made
Similar in Portugal, Nestle makes one called Pensal (cevada) and it’s marketed as a coffee substitute.
sentientslug··on [dead]
I don’t usually engage with content like this on HN but the title vastly understates what actually occurred, below is from the article:

“After a three-week jury trial, the nine activists were all found guilty of a slew of criminal charges in March, stemming from a Fourth of July protest at an immigrant detention facility in Alvarado, Texas, south of Fort Worth. The demonstrators arrived late at night with a plan to set off fireworks as part of a noise demonstration to show solidarity with those detained inside. A few of the protesters spontaneously broke off from the main group and vandalized cars in the parking lot, a guard shack, slashed the tires on a government van and broke a security camera. When a police officer arrived on the scene and drew his weapon, one of the activists fired an AR-15 from the woods, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The officer survived.”

This is terrible advice, are you buying and self balancing hundreds of different stocks?
sentientslug··on Pope Leo called his bank's customer service line. They hung up on him
I’m not understanding why they would do anything differently just because he’s the Pope. They shouldn’t have hung up on him but that’s the only customer service issue here.
sentientslug··on Website streamed live directly from a model
This is not really working for me at all, the second images always look near identical to the first with some minor changes. Maybe my prompts are the issue? Anyone have some good prompts?

I really don’t think budget cuts prevented the camera operator from panning up at the right time…
sentientslug··on LaGuardia pilots raised safety alarms months before deadly runway crash
A runway light does not physically prevent a vehicle from entering a restricted area in the same way that an interlock would. Not saying it’s practical but an interlock would have indeed prevented an accident of this type.
sentientslug··on The emergence of print-on-demand Amazon paperback books
What are you buying ungodly numbers of books for? To read them?
sentientslug··on iPhone 17e
Sorry but if that’s the case you definitely don’t have large hands. If you did you’d be able to use the Pro Max one handed and reach everything except the top left corner by swiveling your thumb (Reachability enables you to reach top left corner)
sentientslug··on Setting up phones is a nightmare
eSIM transfer also typically doesn’t require any intervention, usually it just goes across to the new device
sentientslug··on Pocketbase lost its funding from FLOSS fund
I don’t think it’s fair to conflate the people of India with their government
sentientslug··on OpenClaw is changing my life
Many ICs have no talent or depth of knowledge, I don’t think thats a criticism unique to managers.
sentientslug··on iPhone Typos? It's Not Just You – The iOS Keyboard Is Broken [video]
This already happened when they got rid of the 5-star rating in favor of the like button. "Rate 5 stars and subscribe" became "Like and subscribe". People will adapt.

sentientslug··on Waymo robotaxis are now giving rides on freeways in LA, SF and Phoenix
Sorry, what? Waymo does not use human drivers for passenger trips, unless you’re referring to training drives (with no passenger).

Edit: I think I get what you mean now, you mean when humans have to remotely intervene for whatever reason and pilot the car

sentientslug··on Ask HN: My family business runs on a 1993-era text-based-UI (TUI). Anybody else?
Was not a TUI, but was totally controllable from the keyboard. There was no mouse or touch screen, you could get pretty fast at it. You are also correct about the tax exempt thing, the customers who used it often knew what to ask for. The new registers now have a completely different UI with a touch screen. Seems like a step backwards.

sentientslug··on André Gorz predicted the revolt against meaningless work (2023)
What kind of jobs do you put into the lifestyle category? Depending on what you mean by that, I think that lifestyle jobs can have some non monetary value to society by increasing wellbeing.
sentientslug··on Ryanair flight landed at Manchester airport with six minutes of fuel left
With all due respect, you are the one that sidetracked the discussion, not the person that acknowledged AI
sentientslug··on Announcing Tinker
You are going on a very weird crusade in this thread. Literally have never heard this in my life used as any kind of slur and here you are arguing with everyone about it.
sentientslug··on Announcing Tinker
Their lack of a public product has been widely discussed for at least a month now
sentientslug··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?

Every time this happens people say it’s different. See: COVID pandemic. And we know the V shaped recovery that came after that. Of course that shouldn’t be interpreted as a predictor of what’s to come next (because it’s not), my only point is to say that the same rhetoric pops up frequently during downtowns since forever.
sentientslug··on Recreating Daft Punk's Something About Us
Not just the imagery, very clearly the text as well. It really puts me off of reading an article when it's so obvious, I'm not sure why. It almost feels like the author is trying to pull something over on me.
