Hello HN! I am one of the cofounders at Growthzilla where we are building growth solution for salons.

We just launched everysalon.com and wanted to get feedback from fellow hackers.

sbashyal··on TeaBOT (YC S15) Makes Customized Cups of Tea with the Touch of a Button
I have already received a few emails showing interest and I am committed to make this happen. Send me an e-mail today showing interest and I will ship an assorted pack of premium Nepali tea for free for the first month (early September).
sbashyal··on TeaBOT (YC S15) Makes Customized Cups of Tea with the Touch of a Button
Shame less plug: Dear tea lovers on HN, I am from Nepal - home to some of the best organic tea [1] grown in the foothills of Himalayas. I have been thinking about starting Candy Japan [2] like subscription service but for Nepali tea. Would you be interested? Please e-mail me if you would like to help me start this. sbashyal@gmail.com

We recently launched a platform product for small businesses that helps them with revenue growth. I would love to receive feedback!

We already have 30 customers. We are raising a seed round. If interested, please reach out to me. Email is in my profile.

sbashyal··on Thinking of using Stripe for your startup? Think again
Glad to hear! The question still remains why they didn't want your business in the first place and why are they changing their decision now. As a start up founder using Stripe, I would like to know.
sbashyal··on Please help my country Nepal
Another Nepali here. I have personally donated $500 for the cause. We are also raising fund at my kids school. I would like to request fellow hackers to donate. No amount is too little.
sbashyal··on Show HN: PencilCase – an iOS app studio that transforms designs into apps
This looks great! Does it allow access to the native APIs?
sbashyal··on Ask HN: Do you need money?
We do!

1. Our product is ready and we have beta customers 2. Founders are in Los Angeles 3. Real problem, big market. We are generating revenue from beta customers 4. We are in the SMB space

If anyone is interested in investing, please send me an e-mail.

sbashyal··on What Makes Hacker News Fame?
The effect "High karma can give you a little boost" is not due to HN karma itself. Many contributors to HN already have a reputation for good content and thus people are more likely to read/vote new submissions from them. So the boost is earned by the contributors by having impressed HN audience, not granted by HN solely based on past karma.
sbashyal··on Ask HN: A good overseas place for a resting hacker/technomad
Nepal. Lax visa, inexpensive, mostly safe, okay Internet (not the fastest), nice weather for sure, and a very beautiful country.

Ping me if you are interested. I can hook you up with hackers/entrepreneurs there.

sbashyal··on Introducing Driver Destination
I believe this argument is flawed. Carpooling has been free only with friends in most cases which limits the number of possible carpools as it only works when people you know are heading same direction.

This opens up doors to higher number of carpools which would be a big boon for big metros like Los Angeles where rush hour traffic is a nightmare. Reducing traffic will be a big win for humanity.

sbashyal··on Ask HN: Career advice sought; am I having a quarter-life crisis?
I do career counseling and in my career I went from being a scientist to a engineer. Reach out to me if you would like to have Hangout/Skype session. E-mail in profile.
sbashyal··on Tell HN: My startup is making money and I don't know what to do
First of all, congrats on your success.

I am based in Los Angeles and I currently work in the apartment industry. I can meet with you in person and provide you guidance and possibly help you raise seed money if you choose to go that route.

Send me an e-mail to my user name at Google's e-mail service.

sbashyal··on Amazon Launch Event
I am specially intrigued by "Do you have machine learning experience?" question in the developer section for the invitation request.
sbashyal··on Poll: Were you banned by AdSense? When in the cycle were you notified?
Here is a bar chart for this poll result using HNChart - an app I built to visualize Hacker News Polls: http://hnlike.com/hncharts/chart/?id=7672910
sbashyal··on Feedback on our location based social app 'GeoHives'
This looks great but given Facebook has entered geo social space with today's announcement, it may be difficult to get people to install this. It may help to think about what use case can this serve that Facebooks functionality can not.
sbashyal··on HMO: Help Me Out
I am a data scientist with 10+ years of experience in Machine Learning. I am looking for consulting work. Please HMO by introducing me to start-ups looking to get started with data science. I will do discovery for free for right clients.
sbashyal··on US burns through all high-skill visas for 2015 in less than a week
As an immigrant, I believe that US education is the number one cause for most of this. I did my undergraduate degree from Nepal and came to US to go to Grad school. Most of the engineering course content is American and most of us end up being inspired by the pioneers - Dennis Ritchie, Linus, Bill Gates, John Carmack to name a few

Once you are here, and have a degree, there are opportunities here that are not there back home and hence the interest in working visas.

Consultancies are another catalyst - in cases where the candidates do not manage to get a job right out of school, consultancies act as a bridge where they file immigrant visas for the candidates and then help them find companies that are in need of their skills.

sbashyal··on Ask HN: Which graph database do you use?
I have dabbled with neo4j a little bit for my side project
sbashyal··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2014)
I sent an e-mail regarding your previous posts and you never responded. Any specific reason?
sbashyal··on Facebook shares fall 7% on Oculus deal
That's not right - AWS prices did not drop due to Oculus Rift news but the Google Cloud news:

sbashyal··on Ask HN: Will soon have lots of time and little money – how to spend it?
I am from Nepal and I second the serenity of Pokhara. A colleague of mine who traveled throughout Asia put it this way: "There is something healing in those mountains".

If anyone in HN is interested in going to Nepal, feel free to reach out, e-mail is in profile.

sbashyal··on Data scientist consulting to startups?
I have been thinking about asking similar question to HN community. I am a data scientist with experience in using data to improve products and help organizations grow. I would love to chat with start-ups interested in data science and will do data exploration for free to identify opportunities. E-mail is in my profile.
sbashyal··on A New Car UI: How touch screen controls in cars should really work
I like this attempt to rethink the UI for vehicles and I think you are on to something. The absence of any cues I guess is still a problem and the finger-distance based approach could be a problem for some.

How about selecting what you want to control (Temp, Channel, Air etc) on the first pass followed by adjustment of the selected control on the second?

sbashyal··on Startups Can't Survive On $20,000
This article is incorrect in lot many ways. For example, after the introduction of SAFE, the VC funding is no more a debt
sbashyal··on BayesDB - a Bayesian database table
This looks awesome! If it works the way suggested, it is going to save me a lot of time modeling the Bayesian Analysis in coming projects.
sbashyal··on Show HN: I mapped US medical prices. Save thousands by driving a few miles
Yes, in the short term. But in the long term, your insurance premiums are decided based on the cost of your health care. So if everyone spent wisely, the premiums would go down or stop rocketing the way they have been.
sbashyal··on Machine learning is easier than it looks
In my opinion, K-means wouldn't really count as machine learning, learning vector quantization is close counterpart.
sbashyal··on Coin
Marriott Rewards Credit Card by Chase offers a Chip and Pin card. They also have a 70K sign-up bonus points going on right now. If you are new to Marriott Rewards, send me an e-mail and I can send you a referral that qualifies both of us for bonus points.
sbashyal··on Long-Time SEO Jill Whalen Moves On, Praises Google For Rewarding Content More
Measuring the impact of introduced change is key to any optimization task. With Google no longer sending the search terms used to discover the page, SEO is more like a guess work - you follow the best practices and hope Google will start sending traffic one day. This leaves spammy black-hat approach as the only option. Not everyone is comfortable with this though.
