saycheese··on Birth Order Effects Exist and Are Strong
Found the aggerate survey data:

And it is pretty obvious the sample is bias, though take a look to see for yourself and comment if you notice anything too.

Stating the obvious, this clearly shows man is not the only animal to use fire as a tool.
saycheese··on XPS 13 developer edition 7th generation available
Did you even look at the graphic I linked to? If so, there’s no need to “go look” at anything, since that graphic very clearly shows there’s not a major difference.
saycheese··on XPS 13 developer edition 7th generation available
Not seeing a major difference between 3:2 and 16:9 aspect ratio displays, what am I missing?

saycheese··on XPS 13 developer edition 7th generation available
Why does the XPS keep putting the camera at the base the screen instead the top of where it is on most laptops?
saycheese··on The Attraction of Complexity
There’s no singular definition within that document for cognitive complexity, just a bunch of metrics.

saycheese··on How an A.I. ‘Cat-And-Mouse Game’ Generates Believable Fake Photos
>> “QUESTION: Look at the two photos below and see if you can figure out which person is real.”

>> “ANSWER: Sorry! This was a trick question. Both images were generated by computers.”

Not really a trick question when even if you know they’re both fake that the only way to be right (confirm you are right) is to be wrong.

saycheese··on Lensless camera creates detailed 3-D images without scanning
On the same note, depends on how you define “scanning” sense they’re clearly scanning.

You can do the same thing they’re doing with a bunch of pinhole, video feed with variation in the lighting, etc.

saycheese··on Show HN: DeepSense – Know people better through AI-built profiles
Following is based on using his Twitter profile as an identifier:

"Donald J. Trump is a spontaneous individual and takes life as it comes. he generally dislikes coloring within the lines and does not stress over the little things but sometimes struggles with procrastination. He is a very dynamic individual who is easily excitable and sensitive. Passionate and impulsive, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He is slightly emotional and judgmental. He is competitive and challenging as well as frank and believes in speaking his mind. He is a usually thoughtful individual who likes his space. He is extremely positive and optimistic."

saycheese··on All 50 startups from Y Combinator’s Summer 2017 Demo Day 1
Since it isn't clear what "number" you are talking about, thought I ask. Also, for ease of reference, here's the information on the company for the link above:

"Modular Science – Outdoor robot farming: Elon Musk may be concerned about robots taking over the world, but Modular Science just wants robots to farm our vegetables. The startup, which currently has robots out in the field (!) in Petaluma, CA, is aiming to automate 99 percent of the processes involved in vegetable farming within the next six months with their specialized farming bots. Modular Science is looking to charge $2,000 per acre, which they say is half of what farms are currently paying to for human labor."

saycheese··on “Dig once” bill could bring fiber Internet to much of the US
>> "It creates a slight public subsidy for broadband"

Maybe it's me, but $3 billion is not a small amount of money:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13941757

saycheese··on “Dig once” bill could bring fiber Internet to much of the US
Possible my numbers are wrong, but based on the "1% of the project cost" appears this will cost 3.5 billion dollars in total; $305 billion total cost [1] * 1% of total = three billion fifty million for "dig once"

[1] "Congress passed the five-year, $305 billion “Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act” on Dec. 3, 2015, and President Obama signed the bill the next day."

saycheese··on Impossible Foods says it is close to finishing a large-scale production facility
Nope, don't mind; deleted it because I could figure out what it was.
saycheese··on Impossible Foods says it is close to finishing a large-scale production facility
Of note in that filing is that Impossible Foods later requested that the FDA not review that PDF linked to above and the FDA agreed to stop reviewing it:

saycheese··on Supreme Court sets higher bar for education of students with disabilities
>> "His parents pulled him out of public school after his behavior deteriorated dramatically and he made what they said was almost no academic progress. They placed him in private school, where he made rapid progress, and they sought reimbursement for tuition. They are entitled to that reimbursement if they can prove that the public school failed to provide a free appropriate public education under federal law."

Seems like if this is the case for children with special education needs it should apply to all children given how poor the "free" educational system is in many areas in the US.
