saycheese··on Startup School – YC’s Online Class
To be clear, the above appears to have no affiliation with YC, but is just another startup course; one that does not appear to be a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), unlike the one referenced in the the post that's the subject of this thread.

>> "most of the things the YC partners told us we're things that we "knew." Most of the advice was available in one essay or another, but it still felt very, very different to have one of the partners tell us directly what we should be doing."

This is really what will make a difference, that is building a network of mentors that are doing one-on-one mentoring under the same process guided by the same culture. YC should really have a 3rd option, that being to sign-up to become a "certified" mentor.

saycheese··on Startup School – YC’s Online Class
My guess is the ADs will drive sign-ups and the analytics will attempt to gain extra data points on the startups to attempt to better source and channel deal flow intelligence.
saycheese··on Startup School – YC’s Online Class
There's a balance to be had between theory & practice, exclusive doing one or the other will likely produce suboptimal results. Ideally, you'd focus on execution and dynamically get intuitive meaningful feedback as you went.
saycheese··on Startup School – YC’s Online Class
How would YC moderate 3rd party mentors?

Really, is this the best YC is able to do?

Truly interested in knowingly why the course is not released under something like one of the Creative Commons licenses:

Yes, these are the terms of the license:

Webpage for the course is here: https://learning-modules.mit.edu/class/index.html?uuid=/cour...

That page includes an email contact for the course; (6042-gradesmaster@mit.edu). If you're planning to release an edit, I'd reach out as soon as possible to give them time to get back to you on if they'd be interested in working with you and the best way to do so, since you posting it randomly somewhere on the net would likely do less good in my opinion, but would be a huge help if done with them.

Think we agree, just semantics at this point and me trying to simplify the expression. Thanks!
saycheese··on People have no idea which sciences are robust
Feels to me as if to you science means "Be truthful."

Am I missing something?

saycheese··on People have no idea which sciences are robust
Okay, what is science?

saycheese··on The SELinux coloring book [pdf]
At the point you have to make a "cute" coloring book (for adults) to make your OS seem more friendly, maybe it's time to reflect on the reality that there's something fundamentally wrong with the reasoning used to justify the logic required to use it.
saycheese··on Docker Enterprise Edition
My understanding is Red Hat is generating more revenue than Docker selling to the enterprise market. Is this true, and if so, how does Docker plan to beat them?

saycheese··on Show HN: $2 incremental pricing logo project
In my opinion, the first time it was novel. HN is not a place to advertise business services, regardless of if they might be of use, a deal, etc.

This was, as noted by the poster, inspired by the post I linked to.

Stand by my position this is spam.

saycheese··on Show HN: $2 incremental pricing logo project
Unable to find the link, but this "type" of offer has been posted to HN before and to me is just starting to feel like spam.

Author is wrong, privacy is driven by culture, not technology.
saycheese··on Even good bots fight: The case of Wikipedia
I would agree, though frequently the same is true for human dialogue too; that being clever social engineering is the key and that actual intelligence is rarely a factor.

To be fair, I frequently get mistaken for being a bot.

saycheese··on Kim Jong-nam killing: Suspect 'was paid $90 for baby oil prank'
Really depends on the liquid, since some liquids respond very badly to H2O, the most likely method used to remove a foriegn element.

Unless it's obvious what the best course of action is, trying to detant the attacker and anything in there person would be the most likely source of additional information.

saycheese··on Kim Jong-nam killing: Suspect 'was paid $90 for baby oil prank'
Then you agree you can take a bare healthy hand, dip it in a VX bath, flush it with H2O, and be okay. If you're aware of public research that shows this, please feel free to link to it; I am not aware of such research.
saycheese··on Kim Jong-nam killing: Suspect 'was paid $90 for baby oil prank'
Yes, VX is deadly, but no, it's possible to be exposed, wash it off, and be okay. Reality is this is a secret weapon and what little research has been done often does not become public.
saycheese··on Ragic – Editable forms with relational data
Top sign-up link is https, but you're correct that it's possible to load it as http and the sign-up in the body of the page links to the http version.

They need to redirect any http to https for the sign-up page; they already do this for the login page.
