HN is just for insecure , miserable shitheads.
A whole 8 months ago.
Petfoods.com IPO for about $300 million. $573 million adjusted for inflation.
Chewy is at a 14 billion market cap right now.
I think comparing LLMs and the dotcom bubble is just incredibly lazy and useless thinking. If anything , all previous bubbles show is what is not going to happen again.
Like when a relationship is obviously over. Some people enjoy the ending fleeting moments while others delude themselves that they just have to get over the hump and things will go back to normal.
I suspect a lot of the denial is from the 30 something CRUD app lottery winner. One of the smart kids all through school, graduated into a ripping CRUD app job market and then if they didn't even feel the 2022 downturn, they now see themselves as irreplaceable CRUD app genius. Something understandable since the environment has never signaled anything to the contrary until now.
If anything, I think it got over exposed in the 90s. The sound is just so distinct with the slides and accents.
Rebirth was also the first really popular software synth I remember and at that point it was just 303 overkill.
For me, it was an acid house album in the 2010s that I can't remember that made me appreciate the 303 again.
I really never heard the enigmatic scale that much but it sounds wonderful. The only thing I would want to hear are melodic and harmonic minor modes.
I expect to be completely blown away by GPT-5 in the first few days and then over time I will figure out the limitations of the model. Then I will be less impressed because you don't know what it can't do at first.
I am on a GLP-1 level calorie restricted diet right now without a GLP-1 and of course it is just miserable.
I love eating a giant sandwich at night that is more calories than what I am eating all day now but it isn't the taste it is the brain chemical release.
It is an addiction like any other addiction. I have never felt that same craving for chicken breast.
The amount speculation and fraud from this time period would make even the biggest shit coin fraud blush.
Try a biography of Jay Gould if you want more information.
For me, LLMs are also the most useful thing ever but I was a C student in all my classes. My programming is a joke. I have always been intellectually curious but I am quite lazy. I have always had tons of ideas to explore though and LLMS let me explore these ideas that I either wouldn't be able to otherwise or would be too lazy to bother.
All kinds of indie, all kinds of metal, all kinds of rock, all kinds of everything.
The main difference is no MTV or rock radio. Prog rock? There is probably more prog being made now than ever.
That is not the issue. The issue is how incredibly generic the music is.
It also doesn't let you combine genres to make really strange sounds like audioLM can do.
This is just another Muzak generator like they use to play at Dennys. As generic music as possible to the appeal to the most average of average listener.
I think you really need to train your own model if you want to explore creative sound design or algorithmic composition. It just isn't going to be a mass market product worth venture capital money.
Edit. I just tried it though and less impressed now. We are really going to need major music software to get on board before we have actual creative audio tools. These all seem made for non-musicians to make a very cookie cutter song from a specific genre.
As an American, I think the US as EU scapegoat mechanism is so cute.
No history, no bad blood. Those centuries old rivalries and wars have all been forgot about lol.
I always go to the self-check out because I can scan things faster myself.
That is kind of a first step. You know, actually being able to convert from one currency to another.
I had a family friend that was a union boss and after high school he got his son into GM. The family friend though wasn't going to get me in.
It was huge money at the time but it is also why GM stopped being competitive. I think the union boss friend retired at 45 or something completely ridiculous.
Of course he also had the nicest sports car, a huge boat, a huge house for the time.
It is not possible to be more of an atheist than myself but there are all these things I notice I worship with religious conviction instead.
You have your own rituals too. You are just calling them something else.
There has to be biological hard wiring for people to believe so much religious nonsense across space and time.
It is delusional to believe you don't believe in all kinds of similar nonsense if someone from 500 years in the future was looking at your beliefs.
I had been thinking of buying an $80 license for a piece of software but ended up knocking off a version in Claude Code over a weekend.
It is not even close to something commercial grade that I could sell as a competitor but it is good enough for me to not spend $80 on the license. The huge upside is that I can customize the software in any way I like. I don't care that it isn't maintainable either. Making a new version in ChagGPT5 is going to be my first project.
Just like a few hours ago I was thinking how I would like to customize the fitness/calorie tracking app I use. There are so many features I like that would be tightly coupled to my own situation and not a mass market product.
This to me seems obvious of what the future of software looks like for everything but mission critical software.
If you are facing death, no one wants the off brand, budget cancer treatment. No one is going to shop around for the best value cancer treatment.
If you have a heart attack, no one is going to call around for the best price on the ambulance.
It is like a luxury market. People shop around for the best doctor/treatment with no regard at all for the price.
So it is like complaining that a luxury service market is expensive.
The only way around this is a completely state run health care system that you have no choice.
"AI is not good for what I do, therefore AI is useless"
If building a mass market product though the cost is a big deal.
I would assume LiDAR is much more expensive so it would be a big win to get the same performance out of cameras in the long run. I have always just assumed that was the bet.
Third parties don't really work in this system. If a third party gains transaction on an issue, one of the two main parties will largely adopt those policies. Otherwise, the 3rd party just splits the vote and the party least like the third party wins.
Everything is always changing too. Both parties have changed quite a lot in even the last 10 years.
Even further back look at an election map of JFK and Nixon in 1960. The states have practically all flipped. California and the west coast voted all Republican. The southern states voted all Democrat.
All you are really saying with this comment is you have an incredibly narrow set of interests and absolutely no intellectual curiosity.
