sasaf5··on ArXiv's Updated Rate Limit Policy
LLMs have introduced a new form of polution: cognitive polution.
sasaf5··on ArXiv's Updated Rate Limit Policy
Abuse.
sasaf5··on Suits Are Better Tech Than Modern Clothes
You can also get custom-made jeans and T-shirts. They fit better, you can pick the fabric, you can choose details, plus tailors tend to be fun to chat with. I could spend a whole day browsing the local fabric market chosing fabric for my next shirt.

I find it baffling, but custom-made shirts are cheaper than off-the-shelf.

sasaf5··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
Oh yes, when LLMs fail at translating they don't make a visible error. They fill up with inferred meaning. Translators can only be replaced by LLMs if there's no consequence attached to the meaning of what's being translated.
sasaf5··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
Meanwhile there's a 60's era fridge in our garage that still runs fine. For three generations it's reputed to keep beer at just the right temperature. To think that a machine like that would need an update... You'd never want to change something that works so well for so long.
sasaf5··on Show HN: Make cursed fonts like Times New Bastard
Oh, and all the glueing it takes... I hate that part.
sasaf5··on We write code by hand
Perhaps more like snipers saying they don't need full-auto?
sasaf5··on Don't Use AI to Write
Also, don't use AI to translate into a language you can't read back. It glosses over assumptions you didn't know you made, and the output might not mean what you intended.
sasaf5··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
My eyes immediately move away from AI generated graphics. If it does manage to fool me, I get irritated and the thing you are trying to promote gets associated with that feeling. Make a poster with crayons if you will, but spare us from more cognitive polution.
sasaf5··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Cambridge Analytica" (2017)
I would date this beginning to 2013. That's around when Facebook feed ceased to be chronological. That's when everyone became rabid.
sasaf5··on Vomit: Clean up Claude 5's token output with a separate LLM
This cuts against you in a way that genuinely matters.
sasaf5··on Scientists stunned by children's lung recovery in ultra low emission zone
What about the vicinity of large or uphill streets inside a city? I am curious how the data compares with highways.
sasaf5··on Windows 11's built-in Weather app wastes more than 1 GB of RAM
Windows 11 is what made me switch back to dual booting, after 4 years being content with WSL. Everything is slow, everything's GUIs have two versions and it nags endlessly for a "Windows Account".
sasaf5··on The Hacker's Renaissance (2025)
> We used opcode charts like musicians used sheet music.

Maybe like musicians use chord charts? In this analogy, sheet music plays a better role as the program.

sasaf5··on Why we write our own C and C++ inference engines
"Parity is what makes the replacement a drop-in rather than a migration."

It always reads like a 14 year old arguing.

sasaf5··on I wanted a clock that never needed setting. Things escalated
"One, the path not taken, started with an Arduino or Arduino-like microcontroller. The other began with a Raspberry Pi or Pi-like computer-y thing. I went with the Pi, variously using both a Raspberry Pi Zero W and Zero 2 W."

Ok, so instead of bumping your clock +- one hour twice a year you preferred distro upgrades?

sasaf5··on The Psychology of Software Teams
I am very curious: did you figure some of the books they were using?
sasaf5··on Jellyfin founder Andrew leaves team
I have almost the same setup. Plus a 3rd party app called "Material Files" to access it on my phone.
sasaf5··on The human-in-the-loop is tired
It's sad to have to unearth the very human line of thought in this article from the very foamy LLM slop.
sasaf5··on What Big Food Did to Ice Cream
No more LLM-written articles in HN!
sasaf5··on The Factorio Effect
It could have been a tweet, but it was a prompt instead.
sasaf5··on [dead]
Nowadays you don't just write an article. You ask Claude to write it for you.

sasaf5··on The Age of Personalized Hardware Is Coming
"So the interesting question isn't whether personal hardware is coming. It's who gets to write the software that runs on it."

It's not that I don't like your point of view. It's that I can't stand AI slop.

sasaf5··on The vibration of the pager has a sound all its own
I would avoid sentences of the form "It's not A. It's B." It reads very LLM-like.
sasaf5··on Claude's writing style has me on edge
I'd like to gently push back because this is a misconception that is worth untangling. It's not that no one is talking about it. It's that there's a genuine silence about the subject.
sasaf5··on Volkswagen started blocking GrapheneOS users
Bolt a magnet mount on the dashboard. Slap your phone.
sasaf5··on YouTube users get option to set their Shorts time limit to zero minutes
Open youtube through a browser with uBlock origin, with this line in the filter:

m.youtube.com##.rich-section-content

This blocks the shorts bar. I also block the other algorithmic surfaces and have only the search bar available.

sasaf5··on Surprisingly, Emacs on Android is pretty good
I have been using Emacs+git on termux on an Android phone for more than 5 years.

I don't even use a third party software-keyboard, I just use termux's special key bar. To set it up, add the following to ~/.termux/termux.properties

  extra-keys = [['TAB','CTRL','ALT','ESC','HOME','END','LEFT','UP','DOWN','RIGHT']]
This has been enough for using org mode in everyday life tasks, and I don't need to keep swapping keyboards.
sasaf5··on The force-feeding of AI features on an unwilling public
> I’ve seen employees spend days drafting documents that a free tool like Mistral could generate in seconds, leaving them 30-60 minutes to review and refine.

What I have seen is employees spending days asking the model again and again to actually generate the document they need, and then submit it without reviewing it, only for a problem to explode a month later because no one noticed a glaring absurdity in the middle of the AI-polished garbage.

AI is the worst kind of liar: a bullshitter.
