This is exciting and happening faster than I imagined. I do hope other vendors are joining in to create a well-designed standard that's future-proof and backwards-compatible. I do wonder how they might go on about doing that given there are competing models in play. As a dev, I'd want something consistent and with LLMs, feels like it'll be even more annoying if the same APIs produced very different quality of output across browsers.

Yes but almost all shackled by Apple. Orion Browser is probably the only one I've come across that lets me install uBlock and it actually seems to work. None of the other ad-blocking extensions for Safari have the same power as uBlock as per my understanding and usage.

It could be that I'm the wrong audience for this but I can't help but feel this is massively disappointing even for budget options. The minimum criteria is no way acceptable for 2023, especially given there's a lot of development happening around LLMs that can be run on-device. Given the current state of AI, I feel like the baseline specs is all the more important for general consumers also to play with these and to interface with them.

Yeah sure, expecting journalists to find a cause + fix for the trillion-dollar company's buggy software and _only_ call-out and amplify a commoner's struggle _after_ they figure it out sounds super reasonable. Totally.

I'm skeptic how long this will last unless they bring out some cutting-edge innovations. I frankly used and loved Docker Desktop for a long time because it was the easiest way to get going and I believe even k8s is included now which is great for hobbyists and those who just want to get things done. But, I've been annoyed by the UX changes and the push to login to docker hub.

While in 2023, there are most certainly great alternatives that are relatively easy to install from the terminal and get going, I guess there's not yet a definitive replacement that comes with the GUI too. Best I can think of is Podman Desktop Companion[1] but not sure how well this works.

Brackets and Atom were two of the most influential developer tools in my life. Former made me fall in love with the web and the latter allowed me to ship some of my most impactful projects whilst I was in college. I don't think I'd have managed to finish, let alone start writing them had Atom and its amazing marketplace of extensions not been present. Sure, it was slow as hell on my modest Toshiba laptop but I still loved it. And no denying how it paved way for even bigger projects like the Electron framework and Visual Studio Code.

I will cherish those fond memories. Thanks a lot to all the individuals who contributed to Atom and its ecosystem—take a bow!

Not that experienced but still early enough to remember it being used for all kinds of annoying experiences. Still, it was such a fun little thing to use while learning to build my own pages.

Could you elaborate on this? Is this implying that the backend is auto-generating mobile layouts and that the user simply needs to create a desktop layout? If yes, how does it decide where to place things if multiple media and multiple text blocks are present?

Does anyone know if it's possible to configure Rectangle (the free/OSS version) to use modifier key + Arrow<Vertical> + Arrow<Horizontal> to move a window into one of the four corners?

I currently use Hyper + Arrow<Direction> for TRBL placement but it doesn't let me configure Hyper + two arrow keys for corner placements. Is that something not possible with the free/OSS version?

I see. I don't use Drive via the web/app interfaces much but essentially, hard links are a thing already and users must've inadvertently created them anyway when doing actions via web/app.

Precisely. I can understand if they want to change the wording on their interfaces going forward to promote folks to use "shortcuts" but it sounds awful if they're going to do this to existing files/directories.

Was this hard-linking only possible when performing an action via the web/app interfaces? Because the wording makes it extremely confusing. Even I thought this was going to affect copies of the same file in multiple places. I don't notice any points in their support doc which tells me otherwise.

I had submitted a proposal [1] to add type="digits" last year, when I was faced with similar issues designing TOTP/PIN controls. Didn't gain much traction though.

Going to add myself to the list of people Dell managed to successfully piss off. Bought a top-of-the-line XPS 15 2018 model and once the initial "wow" factor of owning a premium laptop faded away, I was bombarded with numerous issues such as:

* Lack of S3 sleep state leading to battery drains and heating up while inside my bag; modern standby was trash back then * Piss-poor thermals leading to piss-poor performance with an Intel i9 processor * Horrible support service with copy-paste answers and ZERO resolutions even though I had their premium support; a lot of solutions are community initiatives * Horrendous trackpad

I've since monitored future XPS releases and found it got even worse. For example, there was a common trackpad double-clicking issue that plagued the later models. The thing that really pisses me off is tech reviewers not calling out Dell even though they faced these issues with their review/retail units. This applies even for Alienware—where's the outrage on the m51 scam?[1] The times they complain, they aren't loud enough and Dell just gets away with it.

I've told my friends and family to avoid buying Dell for the foreseeable future. I'd advise the folks here to do the same unless your company is expensing it.

How is this not a P1 thing in the iOS/iPadOS/macOS/security teams at Apple? Seriously? Bare minimum, why didn't they let people know about this? We know the whole "we care about privacy" thing is marketing fluff now but holy F this is just unacceptable.

And this kind of an issue is exactly why Apple needs to stop screwing around and do the following things ASAP:

1. Decouple Safari from the OS so that it can be updated independently to fix critical issues like this and deploy to all customers quickly

2. Let other browser engines on the platform for fuck's sake!

Not true mate. Have setup plenty of machines with this as the choice and have also seen others running with ENG IN as the layout in their off-the-shelf laptops.
