sandipc··on Apple Updates The Mac Pro
Don't think so.
sandipc··on Always Be Coding – How to Land an Engineering Job
I agree with you, but also keep in mind that leaving an engineering PhD program early ("Mastering out") still keeps your job prospects wide open. In comparison, leaving an MD program early leaves you very few options in the field, in my opinion.
sandipc··on Google Now on your iPhone and iPad
As you probably know, Google Now is on Jelly Bean and up (Android 4.1+)

According to Google's own statistics, just 25% of Android devices [that access the Play store] are on Jelly Bean. Almost 70% are on Ice Cream Sandwich or Gingerbread.

http://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html

Not sure how many iOS devices have the Google Search app installed, but I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage of total iOS devices with Google Now is > 25%...

sandipc··on Apple reports $9.5 billion second quarter profit
Do iPhone 4/4S sales actually result in significantly lower profits for Apple? Those devices are sold at $200 off or $100 off the price of an iPhone 5, and I would imagine the cost of manufacturing the older devices must have dropped significantly by now. (the iPhone 4 is going on 3 years old at this point!)

Also, one would expect a drop in sales of the '4S' (or '3GS') model when the "completely redesigned" iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4) is announced, relative to sales of the iPhone 4 when the 4S was released, or sales of the iPhone 3G when the 3GS was released. The release of the iPhone 5 makes the 4S look especially old, while the release of the 4S didn't really do that for the 4.

sandipc··on San Francisco can become a world capital. First it needs to get over itself
San Francisco needs to work on its public transportation infrastructure before it even starts thinking about becoming as densely packed as New York, Tokyo, etc.

Yes, especially since products like Amazon Locker are free
sandipc··on Google's Nexus 4 smartphone sells out in the US in 50 minutes

It won't operate on Verizon's network. GSM only.

sandipc··on Apple iOS6 Preview
Agreed - the iPad 2 is also still being sold, so there's incentive to support that too (over the iPad 1).
sandipc··on MacBook Pro gets Retina Display; MacBook Air updated with Ivy Bridge
Supposedly Apple is using "faster" flash memory now... we'll see soon when the first reviews come out.
sandipc··on iOS 6 unveiled with Siri enhancements and Facebook integration
That may also be because the 3GS is still on sale now. Not many Android phones from 2009 are still available for purchase.
sandipc··on MacBook Pro gets Retina Display; MacBook Air updated with Ivy Bridge
custom. looks like the RAM is custom too, just like on the Air.
sandipc··on Hunting Down My Son's Killer
it's certainly possible that it has other functions.

There are many, many, many proteins for which we are discovering new functions each day or for which we know of no known function in cells.

sandipc··on Why Instagram is so fast at uploading photos
for previewing each filter's effects, this would require constant downloads of the processed images off the server in addition to the initial upload
sandipc··on Caffeinated: The Beautiful Google Reader Client
True, but at this point I would worry more about unapproved access to my Google account (for example) than to my computer... given the amount of personal information Google has about me at this point.

Google search history, Gmail, Calendar, Maps history, Latitude location history from running on my Android phone, Chrome browsing history and bookmarks, ...

sandipc··on Poll: Which smartphone platform do you own and use mainly?
I think you'll find Android 2.2+ to be a very, very different experience from 1.6 - Google has really worked out many of the silly problems that you mentioned (that certainly plagued early versions of the platform, I agree) .
sandipc··on Apple’s Tablet Competitors Will Never Catch Up
This is exactly what people were saying before (and even immediately after) the first Android devices arrived on the market.
sandipc··on Imagine the Apple Thunderbolt Display… without the display
As far as I know, the 27" iMac already does video pass-through over mini-displayport/thunderbolt. I think it has to be turned on, though.

If I may go back a few years...

If my number is listed in the 1995 local big yellow phonebook but then I choose to have it unlisted in the 1996 phonebook, is it wrong for someone with the older phonebook to have my phone number?

sandipc··on Samsung drops lawsuit against Apple
maybe Samsung can't afford to lose Apple as a customer, given the $7.8 billion in sales it provided last year?
sandipc··on For Google, iCloud Is Annoying; For Microsoft, It's A Humiliation
Interesting, I must have missed that earlier this week. Great concise summary of the long term philosophies of the two companies. Thanks.
sandipc··on Ask HN: Running list of startups/companies that iOS5 went after
not a startup obviously, but all of the Google apps with iCloud
sandipc··on Mac OS X Lion: Coming In July For $29
technically none of the copies of Mac OS X running on Hackintoshes are "valid" -- Apple's Leopard/Snow Leopard boxes are technically upgrades only, not full installs, even though they work perfectly fine as full installs.
sandipc··on Netflix for select Android devices now available
it's not available for all of Android just yet - it is limited to a set of < 10 devices for now... so I'm guessing open Linux support is a while away
sandipc··on After approving NBC buyout, FCC Commissioner becomes Comcast lobbyist
It's amazing that there aren't conflict of interest laws or regulations to prevent this sort of thing.
