So yeah, I guess we're actually not that different after all.
I'd even go as far as recommending it for hosting similar content to the previous owner's; in the same concept as cafes closing and re-opening under new ownership.
It's the site-squatters, domain-traders and link-farmers that shouldn't be allowed to take over existing URIs.
Most sites I sent to it came back with plenty of false positives, mainly because htaccess rewrites resolve the URIs as query string IDs and returned empty pages with "Sorry, but the information you're looking for doesn't exist..."
I clicked the above link and had to chase a growing population of 10+ popups.
Hilarious.
p.s. I do have a popup/JS blocker, but disabled it last night to test something else.
Got a lot of attention when it was up.
> Anything you say before the word “but” does not count.
> When you forgive others, they may not notice, but you will heal. Forgiveness is not something we do for others; it is a gift to ourselves.
- s3d: fast(ish) image viewer. Basic but it gets the job done.
- Thoth: Text editor with FTP and note-taking features. Even though I uploaded it 2 years ago https://www.mirrorisland.com/thoth but I haven't needed to update anything on it because it does what I need just fine. I also use it to read error logs on various websites via FTP.
I dropped out 2 years ago despite being on there since 2015 which in my opinion was its peak. It was a great place to chat with others about what everyone is building, with their own hands, but now there are too many solutions looking for a problem.
At least hacker news has managed to keep somewhat neutral, despite having its own share of criticisms.
Bram Bos also made moonfish as a sequencer, using the same UI style as hammerhead https://archive.org/details/moonfish12
It's not very effective....
The system usage on this is well-designed. I'm using an ASUS F201E Notebook with Debian 10 and the CPU throttled down to 790Mhz (just a bit less than 0.8GHz) to save battery while I'm out on coding field trips, with CPU usage registering around 20%. Very nice.
After listening to this for an hour, it does well with the minimalist resources it's given. Just like what people do on the Pico-8, limitations start becoming an attractive feature. And you can do a lot with 16 bars. A good example is "Army of Me" by Björk - it only uses 8 bars for its backing track but the constant tweaking of filters make it sound a lot more.
This is starting to get in to www.Pouet.net material. Seriously, you should submit it as a demo. It's not just the coding they're after in demos but also creativity. The votes on HN say it all.
It brings back so much from when I used to use the MC-505 while listening to Delerium Spheres 1 and 2.
I'd write more but I gotta go. Just had to say awesome and thanks for sharing.
Thankfully a RewriteRule in .htaccess catches most of these although I can't help think if there's anything else I missed, security related. :\
Thankfully around that time we did manage to get 0.001BTC from some really generous person who was giving everyone a taste of what crypto is all about, from a website called the Bitcoin Faucet.
That tiny bitcoin went from 35c back then to $66 today.
3: Windows/Symantec Defrag (pre-Vista era) When I had 10-40GB hdds it used to be mesmerising watching the blocks fly around the screen. Eventually I find something else to do and pretend the computer's broken.
2: Macromedia/Adobe Flash. Sometimes animations just didn't want to work. Tweens are notoriously random with complex drawings. Delete and start all over again.
1: Editing HTML after using a WYSIWYG editor. Code clean-up. It takes ages.
Originally I was looking for a lightweight home screen replacement but I find it more usable than the default Android launcher. It's one of the first apps I install on a new device.
Shortcuts in either editor allow quick editing compared to non Vi(m)/Emacs editors.
Also, I have a finely tuned tool-chain outside of GVim that (so far) does what I want better than what IDE's provide, depending on the language or target platform.
(I still use IDE's with java, for example)
In article.js loaded with this page there is a section that looks like:
dataLayer.push({event:"mittr:detectIncognitoMode",action:"detect",category:"incognito-mode",label:n})
Commenting out the function block surrounding it where it starts with "function y() {..." stops the class ".incognito-wall-shown" from being applied to "section.incognito-wall" found in the main HTML page - although this is just a quick dig and haven't debugged any further (I'm halfway through something else but this caught my interest ;) )
What browser and OS are you using? Do you have any plugins/extensions active? (Ad blockers, etc. I don't run any, NoScript does a better job.)
