samirm··on Cracking My Windshield and Earning $10k on the Tesla Bug Bounty Program
But how would they know who to ticket? Just because your car is moving, doesn't mean you're the one driving it. If they cannot prove who was operating the vehicle at the time of infraction, they cannot issue a ticket.
samirm··on Strava cuts off Relive
But Relive didn't "pull" anything on Strava, therefore saying that doesn't make sense.
samirm··on QuickJS JavaScript Engine
perhaps John von Neumann
samirm··on Strava cuts off Relive
>If I was invested in Strava, I'd be somewhat concerned right now that Garmin could pull a Relive on Strava...

you mean pull a Strava on Strava?

samirm··on Turquoise Siberian lake loved by Instagrammers turns out to be toxic waste dump
mmmm no they are not. The place is literally (colloquially) called "Novosibirsk Maldives" and many of the posts acknowledge their location and even tag the power station in the post: https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/199067307495333/...
samirm··on Turquoise Siberian lake loved by Instagrammers turns out to be toxic waste dump
How is this a staged picture if it's actually an interesting location and view? It's not like they're pretending they're actually at the maldives.
samirm··on Rust async-await status report 2
Thanks for the update, but why do you have to repeat yourself so much in the post? :/
samirm··on If Sapiens were a blog post
>The fact that Harari seems to think that everything is just a 'story' that we tell ourselves, is way too nihilistic.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, I didn't find it to be nihilistic at all, nor do I really see/understand why it could be.

samirm··on RSA is a fragile cryptosystem
It's in the video linked in the post.
samirm··on Goodbye Aberration: Physicist Solves 2,000-Year-Old Optical Problem
I think the problem was being unable to solve a generalized version of the equation. Our old methods only made it economically viable to make "good enough" lenses and now this method makes it economically viable to make "perfect" lenses.
samirm··on Give Your Yard Back to Nature
perhaps he didn't want to lose out on the benefits like shared pool access and whatnot.
samirm··on I Opted Out of Facial Recognition at the Airport – It Wasn't Easy
This is a very confusing comment. You seem to disagree with the premise of the article, but then go on to agree with it, but also make a bizarre statement about the impossibility of governments being able to track you?
samirm··on Choose Boring Technology
I feel like that's terrible advice for a fresh grad. If they keep getting cut early on, they will lose confidence and start doubting every decision they make, losing motivation to work on anything and burn out.
samirm··on NPM 6.9.1 is broken due to .git folder in published tarball
If they are on the verge of a buyout, I hope Microsoft gets them.
samirm··on Western intelligence hacked Yandex to spy on accounts
Except eating insects is not that big of a deal and not at all the same thing as espionage...
samirm··on Western intelligence hacked Yandex to spy on accounts
It wasn't so much the lack of computerized management as it was the lack of connections to the rest of the outside world.
samirm··on Ask HN: Can we create a new internet where search engines are irrelevant?
I disagree. The people who don't know anything and are unwilling to learn wouldn't be any worse off than they are today and everyone else would benefit from an open source "marketplace" of possible ranking algorithms that the so called "techno elite" have developed.
samirm··on The Toyota Way
why is that ironic?
samirm··on Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi?
Why do you listen to all these radio transmissions?
samirm··on GrapheneOS – A privacy and security-focused mobile OS with Android compatibility
how does this compare with something like microG?
samirm··on Why Dark Gray Is Brighter Than Gray in CSS
This has always bothered me.
samirm··on Undervalued Engineering Skills: Writing Well
I agree that needing time for analysis is important, but what's preventing you from working through all of this during the meeting?
samirm··on Undervalued Engineering Skills: Writing Well
You do it with your laptop in the meeting...
samirm··on Undervalued Engineering Skills: Writing Well
>I'm obviously much more forgiving of people that had to learn English as adults, but somewhat paradoxically I find that they typically write a lot more comprehensibly than most of the native-speaking engineers.

This might seem paradoxical at first, but upon further inspection you realize that those who learn a language (as opposed to acquire it) are better at it.

samirm··on Undervalued Engineering Skills: Writing Well
I don't see how this would prevent depth of analysis?
samirm··on Block Fingerprinting with Firefox
Oh, did not know that. Will look into it, ty.
samirm··on Deposit of rare-earth minerals off Japan could supply world for centuries (2018)
Thanks for finding the new numbers.
samirm··on Block Fingerprinting with Firefox
Most people don't keep their browsers up to date, let alone their OS. I'd say using FF is rare enough that switching to a chrome based UA would help.
samirm··on Block Fingerprinting with Firefox
I'd rather have finer control on a site by site basis than wholly disabling js though.
samirm··on Deposit of rare-earth minerals off Japan could supply world for centuries (2018)
Those numbers are from sources in 2013/4, this latest report was done in 2018.
