sahaskatta··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
I'm the admin. I see the "AI Expanded Access" addon option in the dashboard, but it says nothing about which models it includes.
sahaskatta··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
Our company's Google Workspace Business only offers 3.6 flash & thinking in the Gemini App. Has anyone else seen 3.7 or 3.8 roll out?

sahaskatta··on Android and iPhone users can now share files, starting with the Pixel 10
Curious, why do you think AirDrop is so bad?

As for Android, it works fine, but I’ve probably used that feature only once in the past ten years. I haven't seen others use it either.

sahaskatta··on Launch HN: Modernbanc (YC W20) – Modern and fast accounting software
Hi folks. Congrats on this launch. As someone who's used Quickbooks for years, there's definitely an opportunity to build something that's a better experience. We're hearing about other new platforms like Rillet emerge in the market too. How do you folks think about their approach vs. yours?
sahaskatta··on Oura Ring 4
I'm curious to see how it compares to Samsung's Galaxy Ring. It's Samsung's first-gen model and Oura is on their 4th iteration.
sahaskatta··on One man's quest to restore the first-ever Air Force One
I recently visited the Henry Ford Musuem in Dearborn. Several presidential limos were there:

"The Henry Ford’s Presidential Vehicles exhibit traces the changing balance between a president’s need to be seen, and need to be safe. Included in this exhibit are the horse-drawn carriage used by Theodore Roosevelt and presidential parade cars that transported Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. The most prominent vehicle is the 1961 Lincoln Continental Presidential Limousine that John F. Kennedy was riding in when assassinated on November 22, 1963. The vehicle was rebuilt and used regularly by Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon."

sahaskatta··on GM indefinitely halts work on driverless car at Cruise unit
This is misleading. Here's the note from their official Q2 2024 shareholder letter:

"I also want to recognize the progress Cruise has made over the last several months. Our vision to transform mobility using autonomous technology is unchanged, and every mile traveled, and every simulation, brings us closer because Cruise is an AI-first company.

As you know, Cruise has returned to the road in Houston, Phoenix and Dallas and we recently made several significant leadership appointments, including hiring Marc Whitten as CEO. Marc has decades of experience on the frontlines of technology transformations.

The Cruise team will also simplify their path to scale by focusing their next autonomous vehicle on the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt, instead of the Origin. This addresses the regulatory uncertainty we faced with the Origin because of its unique design. In addition, per-unit costs will be much lower, which will help Cruise optimize its resources."

sahaskatta··on Microsoft Has Lost Its Mind–$450 for a Keyboard, AI Button Included
The Surface Pro flex keyboard weighs 340 g including pen. The Magic Keyboard for iPad 13 M4 weights over 670 g. That's quite heavy. Nearly double without added weight from the Pencil Pro.
sahaskatta··on Microsoft Has Lost Its Mind–$450 for a Keyboard, AI Button Included
I'm fairly sure it's a copy issue. Regardless, Microsoft's entire marketing site for this product needs a redo. It's poorly organized and designed.
sahaskatta··on Microsoft Has Lost Its Mind–$450 for a Keyboard, AI Button Included
The article is wrong. It's $450 total for the keyboard and the pen. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/surface-pro-flex-keyboard-...

It costs a bit less than buying Apple's $350 Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 13 along with a $130 Pencil Pro. https://www.apple.com/shop/ipad/accessories

Both of these are way too expensive.

sahaskatta··on Launch HN: Muddy (YC S19) – Multiplayer browser for getting work done
Congrats on the launch. I recently was trying out Microsoft Edge's built-in Workspaces feature which allows multiplayer collaboration. What would you say are the key differences?

sahaskatta··on Surface Pro 9 teardown reveals modular parts, Microsoft’s 2023 repair plans
It's unfortunate that needing a heat pad to melt glue simply to replace the battery is considered repairable. I miss the era when we could just pop a battery in or out of a phone or laptop.
sahaskatta··on The Framework Laptop Chromebook Edition
Any way to configure this with 16GB or more of RAM so that I don't need to upgrade later?
sahaskatta··on After roasting Apple about headphone jacks, Google dumps it from Pixel 6A
This is not accurate. I had a Nexus S 4G which debut in 2010. It had Google Wallet tap to pay (NFC). I don't exactly know when Google started offering NFC-based payments nor do I remember exactly what it was named as they keep disastrously rebranding their products, however it did come well before Apple Pay which launched in 2014. As per who popularized tap-to-pay in the U.S., there's no question that Apple wins.

sahaskatta··on Apple Business Essentials now available for small businesses
"with Google Workspace identity services, allowing employees to log in to their device with a single business username and password"

This is huge, especially if it will work easily without the need for intermediary identity services to make it all work.

sahaskatta··on Subaru, Kia shut off some car features rather than adhere to 'right to repair'
I am the cofounder of https://Smartcar.com. The talking point being used to suggest that "it's not possible to comply because such a solution doesn't exist" is just completely false.

This is exactly what we've built at Smartcar over the past 5+ years. Thosuands of developers have built apps on our platform to let consumers access their own car data and bring it into the apps of their choice.

sahaskatta··on If Apple keeps letting its software slip, the next big thing won’t matter
I just got a brand new Macbook Air M1 a few days ago. It probably took an hour to update to Monterey out of the box. It failed and I had to reboot a few times and re-install again.

Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Garage Band, and iMovie are pre-installed. I don't use these apps and they are easy to uninstall, but they definitely came pre-loaded.

sahaskatta··on The next generation of AirPods
It doesn't look like these Airpods have noise cancelling. The compedition like the Samsung Buds2 have about 7.5 hours on a single charge with noise cancelling turned off and 5 hours when turned on.
sahaskatta··on Launch YC S21: Meet the Batch, Thread #6
Hi Chris and Robert. I'm the cofounder of Smartcar.com. We're an API for EVs. We're backed by a16z and NEA. (I also went to UC Davis too!)

I'm excited about what you folks are doing and would love to connect. We've been helping many companies in this space better integrate with electric cars.
