sachingulaya··on Chesscademy – Learn How to Play Chess
Thank you. My daughter and I did so the exercises together and she now loves chess =].
sachingulaya··on This May Hurt a Bit: Harvard medical student's blog
The odds of resuscitation from ACLS(advanced cardiac life support) if you suffer cardiac arrest in a hospital setting is somewhere between 1-4% IIRC. The chances of a successful revival are already low. Once you pass the 10min mark you are really just hoping for a miracle...but it happens. Rarely, but it does.
sachingulaya··on BitUndo – Double Spending as a service
I required 2 confirmations for my ecommerce site only because it wouldn't cause a delay in shipping their order.

http://blockchain.info/charts/avg-confirmation-time

12 minutes to one confirmation isn't terrible for the purchase of digital goods...but in person transactions would be limited.

sachingulaya··on A Plea For Companies To Provide Support Via Text
Needy customers. That's the problem. Some of your customers literally just want to chat. They want to feel close to your brand and give feedback directly to the CEO. It's problematic. Easier to keep them at arm's length with email.
sachingulaya··on The New TextSecure: Privacy Beyond SMS
Everyone I explain text secure to loves it and starts using it immediately. Its a dropin text message replacement app. It's main competition is android owners who can pick between text secure and the Hangouts app that had replaced the default SMS app.
sachingulaya··on Put.io
Many private rodent does require that you seed to remain in good standing.
sachingulaya··on [dead]
The buckets don't look stackable... Which is an instant no go for me and I inside most contractors would react the same way.
sachingulaya··on What You Get When 30 People Draw a World Map From Memory
He suffers from hepatic encephalopathy secondary to hepatitic C infection.
sachingulaya··on The $200 Billion Rip-Off: Our broadband future was stolen (2007)
I have Comcast at my business in Los Angeles. It's $65/mo for what I measure at 50mbps down and 10mbps up.

When I tried the small, local cable ISP they were offering me 10/2 for 200 per month.

There's definitely no rhyme or reason to it.

sachingulaya··on TextSecure, Now With 10 Million More Users
I understand HN is not tech support but...

TextSecure crashed on receiving MMS on my Nexus 5 on T-mobile's value plans(I mention their value plan because it works slightly differently than their regular ones). After I manually configured the MMSC it stopped crashing and displays MMS correctly.

sachingulaya··on TinyPNG launches API to automate PNG compression
Is the standard CGI email form a viable business model? Wufoo says yes.

People will pay small fees to not have to worry about something. The "I'll transition to using self-hosted forms next month but I need this done right now" mentality.

sachingulaya··on Mailchimp's pricing
Double opt-in exists...but their API, rightfully, allows for some rule bending. Mailchimp trusts at least one of its integrations to confirm the subscription.

One thing that is hugely bothersome is that it's not possible for us to collect email lists at conventions and send to then through mailchimp. Bad handwriting and/or fake email addresses resulted in a warning from mailchimp about a 22% bounce rate from a list we collected by hand.

I'm not impressed with the mailchimp WYSIWYG either. It's buggy with their templates and the plaintext is always absurd.

The A/B testing is nice, though.

sachingulaya··on Apple Reports Fourth Quarter Results
I'd add that it's colloquial. When a stock drops it's "getting hammered". Also, after hours is deceiving. NFLX was up 50pts after hours with their last earnings announcement. It dropped 80pts the next day.
sachingulaya··on Tiny Inconspicuous Handcuff Key
That's a great way to get yourself shot by law enforcement.
sachingulaya··on Professor's apparent request to student for fake data published by mistake
Can anyone comment on how important this is to the results of the paper?
sachingulaya··on Hyperloop lets you travel on a resonant acoustic wave?
I'll take that $100 bet.
sachingulaya··on Soylent Subterfuge: When a Bad Joke Turns into a Business
Read my comment above. Soylent is very filling
sachingulaya··on Soylent Subterfuge: When a Bad Joke Turns into a Business
yes, but it doesn't provide the fullness feeling you get from soylent. Ensure feels like starvation. Soylent, because of the oats, stretches the stretch receptors surrounding the stomach. This is one input the brain uses to make you feel more full.
sachingulaya··on Hetzner's new server offer: 1 Gbit, 2 x 240GB SSD, 32GB RAM - 59 euros/month
No, the problem is I don't need decent response-time everywhere in the world. I need decent response time in California. That's where the majority of my visitors are from. Latency is the tradeoff you make when you buy overseas servers to save money.
sachingulaya··on Hetzner's new server offer: 1 Gbit, 2 x 240GB SSD, 32GB RAM - 59 euros/month
Ping on my ex-4 is 200ms from California. My OVH box in Canada is 80ms by comparison. Latency is an issue.
sachingulaya··on Crate.io: A new kind of Python package index
Am I nuts or was crate.io a paid filedrop service in the past?
sachingulaya··on Ask HN: I'm an engineer, how do I learn design?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1560520442/ref=oh_details_o...

From the thread "Design Books Every Hacker Should Read" . See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5058583 for reviews.

sachingulaya··on Can I help you? Why retail customers always say No
If Im shopping for clothes I go straight for a salesperson. I use them as personal shoppers and ask them to go find jeans in my size that meet some loose criteria. If I find a shirt in thats too small I'll ask them to bring the right size. Sometimes you can be brutally honest with the "can I help you?" and just ask them what looks good and is on sale. They'll grin and point you in the right direction. If you're buying dress shirts I've found the salespeople to have insight into which brands will fit your unusually wide shoulders without looking awkward.

Don't feel uncomfortable rejecting their suggestions either. It's an iterative process. Once you don't need them say "alright, thanks so much for your help" and they'll leave you alone.

sachingulaya··on Tim Cook tells Congress why Apple won’t move $100 billion back home
From your link:

3. You are a citizen or resident alien of the US whose physical absence from the US constitutes a minimum of 330 days out of any 365.

When I lived overseas I knew US citizens counted the number of days they spent visiting family to make sure they stayed under 30 days each year.

sachingulaya··on Why do professional photographers charge so much?
This is insanity to anyone but a photographer. I wonder how often it is that a photographer loses out on the proverbial jackpot when a customer resells their images.
sachingulaya··on Warren Buffett: Success in investing doesn't correlate with IQ
Actual text: Success in investing doesn't correlate with IQ once you're above the level of 125. Once you have ordinary intelligence, what you need is the temperament to control the urges that get other people into trouble in investing.

Warren Buffett

sachingulaya··on The Feds Are Cracking Down On Mt. Gox, Not On Bitcoin
They've had this policy for over 2 months. Not sure why.
sachingulaya··on Poll: Do you use your real identity on HN?
Yes, my username is my full name and I'm reasonably confident saying there is only 1 person with my name in the world.
sachingulaya··on Mt. Gox Dwolla account frozen by DHS
Considering it cost me exactly $0.25 to send $30,000 to mtgox through Dwolla I imagine the impact is minimal.

Although, now that I have a Dwolla account I am more likely to use it in the future.

sachingulaya··on What If the Tsarnaevs Had Been the “Boston Shooters”?
Most incidences of gun violence end with the shooters dead on the scene. With the Tsarnaevs it was questionable whether they would ever be found. We don't need to conjecture about what would happen if a "terrorist" was on the loose with guns--it happened 2 months ago. His name was Christopher Dorner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Dorner) and they assembled multi-agency taskforces and set off on a manhunt equally resource intensity as the hunt for the Tsarnaevs.
