ryanbertrand··on Treat delivery startup, Doughbies, has abruptly shut down
Any more details? Their service was great!
ryanbertrand··on Ask HN: What is good business advice for independent mobile app developers?
I used “Happy Events” as trigger points to show these alerts. For example, in mobile games, we would show them after playing XX games or winning X times.

I never liked the concept of showing them on app launch because it’s so intrusive to the user flow.

ryanbertrand··on Apple faces class action lawsuit over failing MacBook butterfly keyboards
My B, and Up/Down Arrow keys were either hard to press or would “double” events. I now have a compressed air bottle next to my desk. It seems to do its job but I never had to do this with my previous MacBooks!

Another issue I face is pain in my first finger joints (right below the fingernail bed) after a long day of typing. Maybe I just have heavy fingers but the old softer keys were less harsh.

Another unrelated (we’ll it is like a keyboard, right? :) issue is the TouchBar requiring two taps for most things. I even have my TouchBar as “static” with just a few buttons.

It is now clear I don’t write enough macros :)

Your blog post was great. Thanks for the share.

Very nice! Quick observation, what is the purpose of the # suffix on your variables? I haven’t seen this much and would like to know what it signals, etc.
ryanbertrand··on Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s Peculiar Conduct Rattles Wall Street
After I heard about this, I couldn’t help but think about Zuckerberg saying these responses during his hearing.
ryanbertrand··on Why Pre-Order Food Then Wait in Line
Very similar to CLEAR. I love the idea of expediting security at the airport but I hate the way the agent moves them to the front of the line. It is very awkward.
ryanbertrand··on Tesla Temporarily Stops Model 3 Production Line
Seems to be the tactic of 90% of the news sites these days.
ryanbertrand··on Exit scammers run off with $660M in ICO earnings
I don’t understand how we have all this information on the internet and people still get sucked into these scams. 48%...that is not a realistic guaranteed return! :/
ryanbertrand··on Ask HN: Where have you registered your domains and why?
AWS. I like the integration with Route53. Don’t care much about the price differences.
ryanbertrand··on Pricing low-touch SaaS
Similar to Walmart pricing. I rarely see it is SaaS though.
ryanbertrand··on Show HN: BorderWait, predict your wait at U.S. airports
The AWT Page is just a long html table. This UI is simpler in a good way.

I’m not sure how much AI is actually used here.

ryanbertrand··on Daily Facebook users drops for the first time in US
Most of the posts on my newsfeed are posted by random parents which have added me over the years. Facebook even sends me text messages and emails to “come back”. I get random notifications about some ‘friend’ I haven’t spoken too in 10 years posted something on Facebook...like that will bring me back to your platform.

I haven’t found a way to disable those alerts and notifications.

I’m happy with Instagram because it just serves a simple purpose.

ryanbertrand··on Slack is down
Even the status page is down for me.

All black for me. iOS 11 iPhone 6S.
ryanbertrand··on Problems with MacBook butterfly switch keyboards
My keyboard is currently double adding ‘b’ when I click on the B key. Very annoying and leads to variable name bugs when I don’t catch it.

I just received my MacBook Pro back from service 2 weeks ago (I had popping/cracking noises coming from the hinge / case when opening the computer or when heating up or down). I don’t remember this B issue happening before :(

ryanbertrand··on Problems with MacBook butterfly switch keyboards
I was having the rogue pinky issue as well. I disabled the app awareness of the touchbar and then added flex space to that area where my pinky would hit. It works great but now the touch bar is useless (which is fine by me).
ryanbertrand··on Switzerland: How buying real-estate can kill you financially/reasons for stocks
Switzerland makes home owners pay taxes as if they rented the house out for 12 months each year. This could add a nice chunk to your net cost of owning.
ryanbertrand··on Dropbox taking entire building in Mission Bay – biggest lease in city history
I believe Zynga owns their building.
ryanbertrand··on Porsche will begin an app-based subscription service next month
Wow lease + tax + insurance was $1500? That seems very low. Insurance itself would be over 200-300, right?
ryanbertrand··on Fulton Surface to Air Recovery System
The "In Popular Culture" section does bring it up. Although it is used differently than the real Fulton.
ryanbertrand··on React 16

ryanbertrand··on Powering Twitch and Medium, Algolia (YC W14) raises $53M
Algolia is a great company! I am using their docsearch but my friend used it in a mobile commerce app. He was super impressed with the integration and the end result was a great user experience.

highly recommend checking them out. Congrats to the Algolia team!
