ruchi··on India blocks Colgate patents for spices
Native speaker here. Dalchini is the correct Hindi word for cinnamon. Think of it as the English word underdog.

ruchi··on Female Passengers Say They Were Targeted for TSA Body Scanners
I've opted out a few times. My experience has been pretty much like jchrisa. Just tell them that you are opting out when it's your turn.

They would find someone to pat you down along with another officer to watch the process. Pat down takes less than a minute but wait time for officers to become available can be up to 5-10 minutes.

ruchi··on A myth called the Indian programmer
You are getting it in the reverse order. People who make it to IITs are driven; they do well in every field not just IT. Most Indian coders are in it just for the money, they hardly have concept of basic business or functional concept to do better and the sad part is they don't want to learn. You need to love what you do excel.
ruchi··on Ask HN: What are the good old ideas that still make money on the web?
People don't always use their legal name on facebook and not everyone has enough online presence to show up on google. Peoplesearch pulls data from many sources e.g. your electric/water/broadband company.
ruchi··on A Man. A Van. A Surprising Business Plan.
In India too. There are people who validate your passport application and supporting docs for a small fee before you submit them to the officials.

ruchi··on Ask HN: How should I apply for U.S. jobs as a non-resident?
>>Another possible problem is that your spouse can get a visa but cannot work (until you both get a green card, which might take a long time).<<

Your spouse qualifies for H4, a dependent visa, based on your H1 visa. However, they can find sponsors for their own H1.

ruchi··on Indian Official Puts Public Webcam in Government office
It may not be since it leaves interpretation of intention of the visit up to you. With the webcam, although the feed may be muted, you could still find out more.

ruchi··on Show HN: my new project, an anti-snub dating site
Yes, just saying this should be sufficient - "If your email address is our database, you would shortly receive an email to reset your password".
ruchi··on I'm a pregnant hacker. Please review my side project.
It's a valid concern. I think they can have a workaround this problem by offering a discount on say diapers or some kind of other fringe benefit to parents confirming the birth.
ruchi··on Apple responds: we want a cut of Amazon, Sony e-book sales
I'm not sure that's right. Even if Kindle App has no purchasing option but accesses content bought on Amazon.com, it should still allow Apple's in-app purchase. Which essentially means, Kindle app is useless. See the excerpt below.

>> If an app lets users access content that they purchased via Amazon's website, for example, then that same app must also let users buy the same book via Apple's own in-app purchase system. If the app developer doesn't want to use Apple's in-app purchases to sell content, then the app can't access content purchased elsewhere either.

> Lying is a tool, it can be used for good or bad.

That's precisely the point. Here lying was done for personal gains.

ruchi··on Feedback on weblerr.com, any suggestions / ideas?
The demo video doesn't clearly explain how it works. You mentioned that there is a weblerr bar but no other info on that. Without asking us to signup, could you show us how it will work? How will we make friends; if we are gonna import our contact list and such.

Amazon has improved support for PDFs. Here's from their Kindle page:

"Improved PDF Reader

Now with new dictionary lookup, notes and highlights, and support for password protected PDFs. Easily carry all of your documents on the go."

ruchi··on Kindle is OK
Kindle supports MOBI/PRC/AZW but not ePUB. You could use the free conversion tool calibre and batch convert your books from ePUB.

but I saw flights disappear, reappear, change availability, and change details entirely while trying to book a trip to Munich.

I am not sure if this is a bug in Priceline. I've seen the same with Orbitz last week. Moreover, with Orbitz fares reduced or became unavailable while trying to book.
