robert_nsu··on Ubuntu 12.10 Now Available
Maybe it's just me, but I spent less time getting acclimated to Windows 8 than I did with Unity. I find nothing difficult about it at all.
robert_nsu··on Let's stop telling programming newbies to learn Vim (or Emacs)
Using vim helped me write better (or smarter) regular expressions. I tell people starting out with vim to stick with it and it will help them in the long run.
robert_nsu··on Apple Maps up to five times more data efficient than Google Maps
Yeah, I'd rather wait 5 minutes for correct information instead of waiting 2 minutes for incorrect information.
robert_nsu··on Android can be beautiful
It's funny you mention that. I just got through looking at ubermusic which is almost an exact clone of (or, if you prefer, heavily inspired by) the Zune software for Windows Phone.
robert_nsu··on Benchmarking High Performance I/O with SSD for Cassandra on AWS
I sure they meant "too long; don't read" to fall in line with their "prize" of coming to interview if you could make sense of the explanations and benchmarks.
robert_nsu··on Watch what you store on SkyDrive–you may lose your Microsoft life
It has to be. A friend's account was compromised, but I reset his password for him and MS gave him the opportunity to remove any offending material and everything was ok.

This is slightly annoying though.

robert_nsu··on Oracle spreading FUD about CentOS
I still have a copy of that paper they pulled that "debunks" nosql. I don't think I'm ever getting rid of it.
robert_nsu··on Google+ grows 43% in June
I'd like to know also. I mean, all this post says to me is "Google+ gets more traffic than LinkedIn". That isn't much of a feat when you consider Google integrating G+ into searches, the use of browser extensions, etc.
robert_nsu··on Microsoft changes skype supernodes architecture to support wiretapping
Yeah. Personally, I take all articles with a grain of salt when the author bandies about terms like M$.
robert_nsu··on Vim Creep
I still use `:wq` once every blue moon. Only out of habit though.
robert_nsu··on Windows 8 Available in October
So this means I can get my hands on Windows 8 in August. However, the more pressing matter is when I can get my hands on a Surface tablet.
robert_nsu··on Objective-C overtakes C++ to become 3rd most popular language
I glance at TIOBE from time to time. My biggest gripe is just because a language is searched does not mean it's being used.
robert_nsu··on If malware authors ever learn how to spell we're all screwed
He's right. Most of the time, the things that tip me off are the misspelled words and poor grammar; also, the conflicting information. For example, getting an email message from Chase Bank with a signature from a Wells Fargo employee. A lot of people are one well versed phisher from losing a lot of time and money.
robert_nsu··on HP said to dump Microsoft ARM tablets over Surface
I stopped reading when I got to the part about Windows RT become WART. This guy has an axe to grind and he just wasted thrity seconds of my life that I will never get back.
robert_nsu··on Announcing Windows Phone 8
It's been said here several times: Buy a phone for what it does today, not what the manufacturer or carrier promises what it will do later.
robert_nsu··on Microsoft introduces Windows Phone 8
Thank you. I'm glad someone else sees this. If a developer writes a NFC enabled app that finds its way on to previous generation phones, the support alone will be an utter nightmare.
robert_nsu··on Microsoft introduces Windows Phone 8
I use Sharepoint everyday. I hate it and iTunes equally. I use the Zune software everyday. I have it installed on all of my computers. I can't say that it is perfect, but it is leaps and bounds better than iTunes in my opinion.
robert_nsu··on Microsoft's Getting Rusty At Stealing from Apple
I was beginning to wonder if anyone remembered Windows XP Tablet Edition since 2002 happened a while back.

According to my 10 year old niece: "The Lord of the Rings movie came out a long time ago." So, when I see things like this, I think the person who made it is probably ten years old also.

robert_nsu··on The New MacBook Pro: Unfixable, Unhackable, Untenable
As long as other OEMs and other industry leaders don't follow Apple's lead on this, I'm fine.

I won't need a retina display in the near future unless Visual Studio or vim suddenly require it.

(and I really don't see that happpening -ever)

robert_nsu··on Goodbye cheap Windows 8 tablets: Windows RT costs OEMs $85 a pop
That $85 price tag is a Windows RT and Office Metro bundle. So, it's not _just_ Windows in question. I think the title should be adjusted to reflect this.

Read this Windows Team blog post to see what I mean: http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive...

robert_nsu··on Mac Pro gets half-assed “update”
I don't get it. Why don't they just discontinue the Mac Pro?
robert_nsu··on Microsoft offering Linux virtual machines on Azure
Originally Windows was the only OS in this platform, but I iirc they are planning to change the name also.
robert_nsu··on Obama orders Government Agencies to optimize for mobile web
I like the idea. I think it is a good initiative, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon. Some agencies just don't have the resources to make it happen, and others have too many resources so the red tape involved with projects like this are prohibitively long, thick, and virtually insurmountable.
robert_nsu··on What's That Programming Language?
Apparently I suck pretty bad. I got ML, Ocaml, and F# confused.
robert_nsu··on Supporting IE Is Too Much Work
I agree. Or at the very least, identify what your users are using (in my case IE9 and webkit via iOS) and test accordingly. Granted I am only making things for internal consumption among a very small pool of users, but still If I decided to only test for Safari and Chrome, I need my teeth kicked in for being lazy.
robert_nsu··on University of Florida Eliminates Computer Science Department
Last I heard, LSU and Nebraska were the only two schools with athletic programs that were both financially and nominally self-sufficient. This was in 2009, I think. This link gives some financial stats on athletics programs starting with the 2004-2005 academic and ending with the 2009-2010 academic year.

robert_nsu··on Windows Phone is headed for a life of fragmentation
"They're the Perez Hilton of tech journalism."

Thank you, good sir. That just made my day. I will have to use that one in the future.

On topic: Fragmentation doesn't always mean the end of the world. A lot of people could not spot the differences between iOS 4 and 5, or Froyo and ICS. As far as development goes, MS has gone on record to say that all WP7 apps will run on WP8. Personally, I'll just wait and see what will come of this before throwing my lot in with the Perez Hiltons of tech journalism.

robert_nsu··on Are you a student in the US? Get a free Windows Phone
(Personally) I don't consider troll comment to be a spam comment, but it's annoying all the same.
robert_nsu··on Poll: What is your primary operating system
Well said. I agree. I work in a 99% Windows IT shop, therefore Windows is the OS that will help me get the most work done in the shortest amount of time. I run Fedora and FreeBSD virtual machines in my spare time, but for most of the day, I need to get things done and Windows 7 helps me accomplish the tasks set before me.
robert_nsu··on No longer loving Google
I'm wondering how many down votes I would get for suggesting Bing as an alternative to search.
