robert_nsu··on Microsoft Is Said to Have Agreed to Acquire GitHub
This doesn't bother me at all. I'd be far more worried if Oracle acquired GitHub.
robert_nsu··on Adobe Sensei
I'm getting the idea that Adobe has created an AI platform to help agencies with marketing efforts.

Yet reading through this landing page leaves me confused to what it actually does. Am I on the right track?

robert_nsu··on Visual Studio Code 1.10
Truth. Go to GitHub and check out their milestones. It's so great to know what is coming in the upcoming monthly release.
robert_nsu··on Show HN: ExcelJSON – Convert JSON To/from CSV, TSV Easily
That would be Powershell.
robert_nsu··on Ask HN: Disappointed by the new Macbook, what alternatives do we have?
Another Precision user chiming in. I got one at work and after I updated the Intel video driver, I've had no complaints.
robert_nsu··on OS X is now macOS and gets support for Siri, auto unlock
> aversion to tinkering

That is my biggest (and really only) complaint against Apple. Sometimes you have to go under the hood and do a few things. I don't know what Apple has against this way of thinking though.

robert_nsu··on Let's Kill All the Mosquitoes
Dragonflies eat mosquitos. I happen to like dragonflies. The are one of the non-annoying insects I actually like to have in my (non) backyard.

robert_nsu··on NSA releases open-source infosec tool
Why did I read that comment section? I wonder if any of those people have ever heard of SELinux.
robert_nsu··on Locust – A modern load testing framework
I've been using siege for load testing. I'll give this a go at some point.

I don't use python as much as I'd like and this seems like a good work related use-case for me.

robert_nsu··on Microsoft announces Hyper-V Containers
> And native rsync interoperability too? I've love to banish cygwin from my Windows servers.

Hear, Hear! You and me both. I've never liked Cygwin and do my best to avoid when possible.

robert_nsu··on Microsoft Announces Nano Server
Umm... Haven't you ever heard of Xenix?
robert_nsu··on Starbucks to encourage baristas to discuss race relations with customers
Will it get me my coffee any faster?

Will it make me feel better about an incident in elementary school.

Will Starbucks pay their baristas hazard pay when someone inevitably gets offended?

No. So, can someone explain why this would be a good idea?

robert_nsu··on Ask HN: Can we talk about FreeBSD vs. Linux?
FYI- Azure also supports FreeBSD.

robert_nsu··on Get Visual Studio Community 2013 for Free
Also templates for Windows Services and other project types that aren't included with the express versions.
robert_nsu··on Microsoft: Satya Nadella steers Windows giant to recovery
I use vim and brackets (in addition to Visual Studio), but is codebox even an editor? I thought it was just a snippet organizer. Also, Atom can't open files greater than 2MB at the moment.
robert_nsu··on Devs make cracked game impossible to win
I remember hearing about Rocksteady doing something similar with Batman: Arkham Asylum.

robert_nsu··on FTC Says AT&T Has Misled Millions of Consumers with ‘Unlimited’ Data Promises
Here I thought I was being capped around 5gb. I didn't ditch the "unlimited" data plan until late 2013.
robert_nsu··on Announcing a specification for PHP
This is good and long overdue. I disagree with the claim of it being the lingua franca of the internet though.
robert_nsu··on Atom: Hello Windows
I've had it running on xubuntu 14.04 for close to a month now. The biggest pain was during installation, it only gave root the read flag on some of the installed files. It had weird side effects like having to run as root before changing the theme. Once the permissions were fixed, it ran smoothly.

Which utilities were you trying to install? In my experience, I have a much better time using PowerShell and native tools for Windows.

robert_nsu··on OCaml for the Masses (2011)
I've played with OCaml in the past, but I decided to get comfortable with F# then give OCaml another go.
robert_nsu··on Kallithea: A free code hosting solution for Git and Mercurial
I've been using Rhodecode for a while now and it's solid for the most part. There are a few features that I wish they would implement soon.
robert_nsu··on Microsoft takes down No-IP.com domains
Not exactly.

> allowing us to identify and route all known bad traffic to the Microsoft sinkhole and classify the identified threats.

According to MSFT, they are only looking at known "bad" traffic. You can take their word for it... or not.

robert_nsu··on Web Development Tools for Linux and How to Install Them
Truth. Though, in my experience, most articles are Ubuntu focused. Personally, I prefer Fedora but in most cases instructions are as easy as substituting apt-get for yum.

I'd say put it in the bin. There are a million similar blog posts with much better info.

robert_nsu··on Best of Vim Tips
Wouldn't you like to know how to do all of this in five easy steps? /s
robert_nsu··on How a banner ad for H&R Block appeared on Apple.com without Apple’s OK
The problem here is that in our city, we have four ISP's. My parents live in a suburb close to the edge of the city. AT&T, Comcast, and the others don't really provide any services out there.

I say "not really" because ATT provides phone service, but not DSL or U-Verse.

robert_nsu··on How a banner ad for H&R Block appeared on Apple.com without Apple’s OK
One thing is that it can ruin the UX of the page. I was constantly hitting the overlays while using an iPad when all I really wanted to do was advance the page I was reading.
robert_nsu··on How a banner ad for H&R Block appeared on Apple.com without Apple’s OK
The writer reached out over twitter. I responded with my info on the subject and another individual pointed him to Henkel's blog.
robert_nsu··on Cucu: a compiler you can understand
The site was down for me also.

On a side note - The first thing I thought about when I saw the name was copper.
