I was reading a techpower article on the 6500XT recently, because their power usage testing is excellent aand the 6500XT has an incredibly low idle draw versus other desktop cards.
If you look up the prices of stand alone hdmi switches on amazon though I think the most likely explanation is these are now niche products so the price has gone up. Logically a decent vga USB KVM + an HDMI switch shouldn't require more cost than those two devices prices together.
Although, most of the other staff were quite "judgey" so its possible that I just worked at a store that wasn't popular with those customers.
I had a weird project where I ran into this. Or rather, I was actually aware of it and tried to work around it. I wanted to attach a large number of optical drives with sata to USB converters to a single port, basically a hot attachable ripping tower kind of thing. To assure a single port would provide enough bandwidth I needed USB 3.0 throughout. But SATA to USB 3.0 converters that exist seem to have...shaky support for optical drives as they're only really meant for SSDs/HDDs. My project ended in at least temporarily failure due to that unreliability.
I remember reading about this device and not finding it a reasonable solution. In addition to not being easily available, I'd need one device per port to break the uplink limit. That wouldn't save me any money and it would be a cabling nightmare. If the chips were a reasonable price and easily available I might have looked into it more seriously anyway though.
I've never owned a self driving car, but I suspect they'll just throw up their hands and tell you to deal with it in the event of any inclement weather. Which would be about half the time around here!
I've actually come to appreciate the wireless keyboard though, it is awkward and bulky (even though it's a lightweight slim model) but the kids constantly lose the actual remote whereas the keyboard's size make losing it very difficult.
I know twitter and facebook will allow you to proceed but then lock your account "for security reasons" pretty much immediately unless you cough up the goods.
Although I wonder if the bios on this HP let's you disable it...
I think nvidia is worried about being shut out of the x86 space so there's nowhere to sell their products. So they had a long term play to guide ARM development as an alternative platform. I could see that platform being useful as a hedge, but also giving nvidia a better way of competing in consoles and if they were really successful maybe eventually turning Intel/AMDs x86 advantage into a weakness.
Back when Intel killed off all third party motherboard chipsets nvidia won a lawsuit against Intel where they forced Intel to ensure a pcie bus for GPUs on all their platforms. That provision expired a few years ago. If nvidia is smart (and I believe they are) they've never let go of that worry that APUs might shove them out of the market. Their best bet is to remain so much better than the competition they cannot be ignored, but it would be wise to have a backup plan.
I'd say in order of seamlessness: KVM switch or monitor input switch Looking-glass parsec, steam in home streaming
I have a KVM switch as well but I kind of prefer to run things in a window.
There's a couple quality of life things about running windows in a VM as well. When it goes on it's update parade I can just close the window and ignore it. And with snapshotting a bad update can just be rolled back.
Really stinks because I was super interested in a GVT-g on their new discrete cards.
I've actually had good luck with AMD cards, but the reset bug is truly bizarre. For instance I own an evga R7 360, no reset bug, very reliable. I had also purchased an XFX R7 360, never survived a reboot! My sapphire RX 470 also works fine with no special actions from me and I've heard people have issues with that one.
You're definitely correct regarding anti-cheats though, they are something you have to watch out for.
