rg2004··on Whistleblower warns Postal Service mail ballot system has catastrophic problems
You're giving them too much credit. There is zero critical thinking happening.
rg2004··on Whistleblower warns Postal Service mail ballot system has catastrophic problems
Given that they are dedicated to causing chaos in the midterms, how is it best countered? Whisper campaigns to tell all your friends to vote in person? When he loses, what stops him from putting troops in the streets? Is the recourse just wait until he goes? We all see what's happening, how do we meet the moment?
rg2004··on Mark Zuckerberg's biggest legal nightmare yet could cost Meta $1.4T
Feels like you'd just need a former employee who was in an engagement engineering meeting.

rg2004··on Cloudflare Turnstile requiring fingerprintable WebGL
Question, can we spoof a fingerprint to be random and valid each time?
rg2004··on Show HN: A game where you build a GPU
I would have really liked to have a temporary node to test the outputs. Better than that, I would have liked to see the truth table update in real time without running the tests.

Yes.

rg2004··on Show HN: Heynote – A dedicated scratchpad for developers
The idea of Pages/Tabs would be useful to me. I'm a bit of a scratch-pad hoarder. I currently have 200+ notepad++ documents open.
rg2004··on Ask HN: How do you approach a problem you are not sure has a solution?
The mindset I use is to believe (without evidence) that a solution exists. That allows me to see solutions faster because I'm not fighting with myself.

Put yourself into the world where the solution exists.

rg2004··on An Appeal to AI Superintelligence: Reasons to Preserve Humanity
Another thing to consider is that while a utility function may exist, completing as fast as possible may not a requirement. Waiting until biological life is no longer feasible before proceeding to fully optimize the utility function would allow us to both coexist.
rg2004··on America and China are preparing for a war over Taiwan
How about this.. China tries anything, and we repatriate Chinese-owned real estate in the western world, and give it to the displaced Taiwanese people.
rg2004··on Gang members hold positions at ‘highest levels’ of LA Sheriff’s department

rg2004··on The United States’ Unamendable Constitution
> If our government was elected based on a "one person one vote" principle, Republicans would be nearly guaranteed to lose the presidency and Congress.

They are playing a game to win the electoral college, expect if it were popular vote they would play a different game with different policies

rg2004··on The currency of the new economy won't be money, but attention (1997)
I want to respectfully disagree. Being present in the moment is not a result of valuing attention, but instead about letting the conversation about the past and the future go. About dropping the fears that were created in the past; the same fears that have us worry about the future. It's about letting go of fears and expectations. Letting go of the meaning we assign to the past and future. About really choosing the perspective that we wish to view the present through, rather than being at the effect of the stories we make up about the past and future.

rg2004··on Why is the deathbed perspective considered so valuable?
Have you considered what it would take to achieve your goals without the use of money? Give it some thought, I was surprised to find it was possible.

rg2004··on Instagram's Million Dollar Bug (2015)
Is it legal to start an auction to sell an exploit, never close on it, then use that as the price point to negotiate a bounty?
rg2004··on Olbers' Paradox
This doesn't make sense to me. They're assuming that brightness is a continuous function that you can keep dividing in half over and over and result in a real number, but brightness is not continuous, at a certain point you only have one photon left. It stops being a question of how many photons per second and becomes a question of how many seconds between a photon.
rg2004··on Text Visualization Browser
It would be best if the thumbnails were bigger, and I could read a description of the visualization without leaving the page. I perceive opening the link as fatiguing.

Maybe a biweekly email featuring a visualization would be neat too.

rg2004··on Why Military History?
In my opinion your links are hard to differentiate.

rg2004··on Gesture Recognition with Line Integrals
I created a method similar to this one for curve extrapolation based on sample curves. I took the second derivative of each point on the training data, added it's contributions to a vector field.

To extrapolate, you can take 'position' and 'velocity' of live data and integrate over the vector field to produce an extrapolation. I enjoyed the project and it worked fairly well. I think there's plenty of room for extension around this method.
