rezistik··on Critics say WeWork is an overvalued real-estate play
It's not free beer and free coffee, it's X% of $2,200 a month beer and Y% of $2,200 a month coffee.
rezistik··on Americans Losing Faith in College Degrees, Poll Finds
But in Denmark are you paying $100,000 + interest for your shiny paper? Because that's what we charge in the states.
rezistik··on The Marketing Behind MongoDB
I had trouble modeling sql because I started with nosql and used this exact approach.
rezistik··on Pattern Matching with TypeScript
I see it now.
rezistik··on Visual Studio Code 1.14 released
Thank you!

No editor seems to handle ruby very well, why do I get an automatic closing bracket but no automatic end? I don't have to write a 1 char closing bracket why do I need to write a 3 char end?
rezistik··on Pattern Matching with TypeScript
...wait. Why would the uppercase of '1' be '11'? It would just be '1'.
rezistik··on Elon Musk's Promises and Goals for Tesla, SpaceX, and More
Don't discount the self-sustaining Gigafactory.
rezistik··on Facebook is an attack on the open web
Eternal September is the term for that. When the social site begins to accept too much trash because of it's size.
rezistik··on Facebook Cuts Oculus Rift Price to $499
It's 500$ plus the cost of a computer capable of driving it.
rezistik··on Software Developers: how to get a raise without changing jobs
Recruiters take up to 20% of first year salary or more plus the time to retrain, a 10k dev is a cheap one.
rezistik··on Why do millennials hate groceries?
It's specialization at work really, restaurants really do scale better than at home cooking. At some point, it becomes cheaper to eat out than to maintain a stocked fridge and tooled kitchen.
rezistik··on A Rare Tour of Microsoft’s Hyperscale Datacenters
It's more like we have a terminal for a super computer in our pockets than an actual supercomputer. A lot of a phone's tasks are offloaded on servers.

Competing with free is really easy when things like this happen.

There is a simple question to determine your relationship to a company or product, are you the customer or the product. Did you pay for it?

If no, you're the product and they can arbitrarily change the rules of the game.

If yes, yay you.

rezistik··on Confident Cannabis (YC S15) is the stock exchange of weed
HID's are still king, but there is a lot of great things happening with LED's. One of the cool things about them is that they can be tuned into specific spectrums that are optimized for photosynthesis.
rezistik··on Confident Cannabis (YC S15) is the stock exchange of weed
Hey, I'm the CTO @ Flora, we're working on a cannabis breeding platform for selective breeding. There's a ton of room for optimization in the breeding process, let me know if you have any specific questions on it, I'd love to chat.
rezistik··on LEDs Are Set to Revolutionize Greenhouse Farming (2014)
Well yeah absolutely, I'm saying it's a qualitative trait as opposed to yield per acre which is quantitative.
rezistik··on LEDs Are Set to Revolutionize Greenhouse Farming (2014)
Hey, we don't yet could you email me patrick@growflora.co ? I'd love to talk about it more. We're onboarding some of our first breeders this upcoming week and have a grow journal beta out in the open.
rezistik··on LEDs Are Set to Revolutionize Greenhouse Farming (2014)
Taste is a really difficult thing to optimize for due to the subjective nature. There are certainly specific chemicals that appear in really tasty food that can be analyzed and used to guide the breeding process but it's incredibly complicated.

Optimizing for anecdotal data is one of the things I'm working on, it's amazing the depth you need in selecting specific traits to breed into plants.

rezistik··on LEDs Are Set to Revolutionize Greenhouse Farming (2014)
There is a lot that can be done to optimize plants genetically, including a ton that can be done with selective breeding. I'm working on a start up doing selective breeding software and it's amazing how much variety is available that isn't being tapped into yet. We're starting with cannabis breeding before moving into other crops but there is a ton of room for improvement in genetic stock.
rezistik··on Sublime Text 3 marked as recommended build
Atom is free, only slightly slower(on OS X at least) and has a more integrated ecosystem.

VIM is free and basically magic, Emacs etc.

rezistik··on Atom text editor 1.7.0 released
It's in settings. You can disable preview panes. Agree it was annoying.
rezistik··on Atom 1.6 Released with Pending Pane Items, Async Git and Top and Bottom Bar API
Having a real settings page and a real package manager are Atom's main draws to me.

I tried to switch back to Sublime after being annoyed with the performance of Atom but kept running into configuration issues and really really disliked having to read documentation on how to configure the damned thing.

rezistik··on Georgette Packaging (YC W16) Makes Custom Branded Boxes and Cups for Bakeries
My experience growing up was that the flashier the box was the cheaper the cake tasted. The best cakes came from the bakeries that invested 100% into their products. I loved getting really great products in terrible packages, it had a certain feeling to it.

That being said, I love branding and really hip bakeries and coffee shops with awesome branding will always woo me too.

rezistik··on Introducing GIF search on Twitter
Wouldn't GIF's count as original work in the IP courts? As in, the GIF is a significant change from the source so it's now a new thing.
rezistik··on The Rent-Seeking Is Too Damn High
Originally the dealership model allowed car companies to rapidly expand their market without the costs of the infrastructure to sell to consumers, when they had enough money to do so they could easily strangle these businesses.
rezistik··on Renaissance Florence Was a Better Model for Innovation Than Silicon Valley Is
It varied from patron to patron similar to how it varies VC to VC. Some would directly commission work, others would work to establish connections with people who would commission work, and to some it was similar to being on retainer.
rezistik··on Renaissance Florence Was a Better Model for Innovation Than Silicon Valley Is
That's a really optimistic view of a patron, patrons purchased or owned much of the work they helped create. That was the point of being a patron.
rezistik··on Renaissance Florence Was a Better Model for Innovation Than Silicon Valley Is
Aren't Angels, Seed focused VCs and incubators essentially patrons? In many ways the modern patron of the arts is the Angel investor funding technological arts that may never become viable businesses.
rezistik··on Privilege and Inequality in Silicon Valley
That's awesome, thank you!
