rezistik··on Flock Claims It's the First Company to Expose Police Misuse of Surveillance Tech
That doesn’t make any sense at all.

You’re right I guess in that flock isn’t themselves going through audit logs I don’t believe but everything else is incorrect.

I don't really think it is Flocks job to do the auditing. Flocks job is to make auditing possible and to surface abuse to the parties involved in policing the usage.

rezistik··on Flock Claims It's the First Company to Expose Police Misuse of Surveillance Tech
This isn’t true. Flock has an entire team dedicated to creating these auditing tools.

That’s why we hear about abuse of flock over abuse of axon which does not offer those tools.

rezistik··on Measuring political bias in Claude
It's quickly becoming a replacement for Google for me. When I want to know more about a topic I don't usually go to Google or Wikpedia as often, instead I'll start a dialog with Claude about the topic.

I also use it for writing, exploring complex topics or as a sounding board for interpersonal issues.

rezistik··on Experiment: Making TypeScript immutable-by-default
const exploring = Object.freeze({ immutable: true }) exploring.thing = 'new'

Property 'thing' does not exist on type 'Readonly<{ immutable: true; }>'.ts(2339)

So it would be a simple way to achieve it.

rezistik··on GPT-5 vs. Sonnet: Complex Agentic Coding

In all of your examples you're working at a company, ideally the person running the company had that domain expertise.
rezistik··on Dropbox is laying off 20% of its staff
Revenue growth slid to low single digits, meaning instead of adding 20% more accounts, they only had less than 5% new accounts or revenue

rezistik··on Cryptominer loses bid to force BC Hydro to provide it power
Not just energy, crypto is also using far more rare earth minerals and metals in their excessive utilization of CPUs and GPUs. Batteries to keep things running when power goes out. It's wasting so very many of our resources. There is no defense.
rezistik··on Cryptominer loses bid to force BC Hydro to provide it power
Skateboarding isn't using millions of dollars of energy, that outside of this instance is frequently carbon producing.
rezistik··on Cryptominer loses bid to force BC Hydro to provide it power
Crypto is so inherently wasteful it's completely unethical. At least they're trying to use hydro here but by and large, this is an unreasonable resource grab.

To add to this, the article states it's the equivalent of 570,000 apartments worth of energy.

To what end? There is still no real use case for bitcoin, it can't compete with any modern financial transaction system in performance, it's difficult to secure, it's just a bad deal and I can't understand how we've allowed it to grow as much as it has.

rezistik··on Google Cuts Jobs in Engineering and Other Divisions
Could they have moved the Zune team to the Xbox team or Surface team, the windows teams to azure or Xbox, etc?
rezistik··on Stack Overflow is laying off another 28%
Yeah, the moderation became insane. Every question is a duplicate, every answer is moderated out.

The answers on github and across the web are always much much better and more up to date. I can't remember the last time SO had the answer I wanted or needed.

Dashpass doesnt seem tod o that
rezistik··on DoorDash to Slash 1,250 Jobs to Pare Back Rising Costs
Yeah thats super frustrating I see that all the time.

With dashpass you don't pay any of those fees for the majority of orders. I use them all the time

rezistik··on I told my team to pause our $750K/month Twitter ads budget last week
Your asterisk is in no way a recent phenomenon. Advertisers have directed changes to television shows and magazines to prevent being placed near something with content they worry will impact their brand.
rezistik··on Proof of solvency and beyond

rezistik··on Crypto.com Halts Solana USDC and USDT Withdrawals
Yeah but the collapse of those exchanges drove down the price of the coins. Even if its your keys and your coins those coins become worth less money than they were before.
rezistik··on Mac: It Just Works–Terribly
Yeah, this article in particular seems geared towards a handful of peripherals. Anecdotal but everything I've wanted to just work, has just worked and worked better than any windows machine or linux machine even comes close to.
rezistik··on Nearly 20% of active Twitter accounts likely to be fake or spam
I do wonder how "fake" is calculated. Is @tweetsfrommydog fake? It's a real person making tweets that are funny and provide value to the platform, but it's not a real person as an individual tweeting their personal thoughts, are corporate accounts or parody accounts fake?
rezistik··on Tether starting to lose its peg too, after Terra did
We need laws protecting people for malicious actors with significant funding who target people that lack knowledge on deeply technical topics like investing.
rezistik··on Square is now called Block
I'm not super bullish on crypto and frankly it terrifies me a bit, but Intuit charges rent to the US population by lobbying to maintain complicated tax forms and processes...is that what you'd rather support?
rezistik··on Block (aka Square, Tidal, CashApp etc)
They purchased Tidal from Jay Z, likely with a significant portion being in $SQ stock.
rezistik··on Square is now called Block
It's only a 90 billion dollar company running a significant share of the POS market and peer to peer money market, why would they have a sensical, logical or straightforward parent site?
rezistik··on Show HN: FINLO - Stock tracking & research tools built by retail investors
I can only add 4 holdings to my watchlist, 2 to my portfolio. There's also like 5 CTAs to upgrade my account on my home page.

I'm invested because I like the hn community but if I found this app on reddit or from a google search the second I saw the limitations on holdings and watch list I'd totally dip.

The app is screaming at me to spend 10 bucks and part of me wants to, I think the sentiment analysis integration could be valuable but I can't hear my own thoughts over the big orange buttons demanding my money...

Let people fill out their portfolios and watch lists, if there is a timed trial let them use the services, maybe they scroll through the curated news and the tweets, the sentiment analysis, they throw some money at a ticker and come up a few percent and decide it's worth 10 bucks a month to do it again.

Like what is the time limit for? There is a time limit and a feature limit? Choose one?

I don't care that much about being able to modify the colors on my table, I kind of like it but like green and red are great if you're not color blind, and if you are just put a little toggle in another tab instead of taking up half of my screen with these little hue shifters.

The market performance tab is kind of cool but I have to drop my mouse at the far edges to scroll or I'm scrolling the inner tables, might work better as a tabbed interface to swap between but I don't feel strongly about this part.

As it stands I'm just going back to the other 15 tools that do this. Sorry not trying to be harsh, I'm just a very active consumer of these tools.

rezistik··on Show HN: FINLO - Stock tracking & research tools built by retail investors
There is a time limit on usage, why bother with a portfolio limit?

If someone is invested enough to add 10-50 holdings they'll probably be more likely to convert to a monthly sub, but limited to 5? I stop and go back to yahoo finance and never realize the value of your service.
