res0nat0r··on Cleaning Up Dead Bodies in AWS IAM
I'm dealing with the same type of nonsense currently, as an internal audit team sees security groups being flagged by the scanning software that are open to 0.0.0.0/0 which is automatically "bad", even though the hosts have no public IP's and are being automatically managed by EKS to setup links to k8s NodePorts and the ELB.

Same with security groups. Gartner has some "best practice" doc somewhere, someone loads that into a security tool, the tool flags things, and these checkboxes must go from red to green. The technical hurdles to comply or actual value do not matter.

Teslas are being called MAGAmobiles now that Musk bought Twitter and has shown his love for rightwing disinformation and keeps replying to and platforming alt-right racists and other neo-nazi adjacent folks.
res0nat0r··on Factorio: Space Age
Yep, I bought that and have played it a bit! I like the graphics much more for sure. I need to get back to digging in some more as I've barely gotten off the ground.
res0nat0r··on Factorio: Space Age
I really like this game but the colors are hell on my eyes. I'd like to play more but I have such a hard time trying to figure out sometimes what is connecting where. I wish this had some nice bright colors and I would for sure play much more.
res0nat0r··on ParkyTowers: Thin Clients Laid Bare
Company I used to work at had a handful of Sun Ray's which all connected to either an 880 or 6800 in our datacenters if I remember correctly. I always thought they were really cool. I'd love to have something like this for my current setup as I have a large PC with tons of cords and crap all over the place at my desk. Something nice and small but connecting to hardware in the closet where all that mess is hidden would be nice.

res0nat0r··on What are the “trophy jobs” in tech?
My trophy job is where I get paid well, don't deal with idiotic janitorial work being forced upon me by upper management who have no idea what they're doing, and don't have to work off hours very often.
res0nat0r··on Fairphone 4 is coming to the US
I would just love a good Android based phone with a Blackberry style keyboard. I know there are a couple out there, but something from a current large manufacturer would be nice.
res0nat0r··on Was Starship’s Stage Zero a Bad Pad?
Blowing up a landing pad, trashing the local environment and sending massive amounts of concrete flying hundreds of yards not killing anyone is in fact techbro idiocy. Not doing something stupid like that has in fact been understood since launches in the 1960's.
res0nat0r··on Was Starship’s Stage Zero a Bad Pad?
Sounds like the same techbro idiocy that got people killed just the other week.

Rush replied four days later, saying that he had “grown
tired of industry players who try to use a safety argument
to stop innovation and new entrants from entering their
small existing market.” He understood that his approach
“flies in the face of the submersible orthodoxy, but that is
the nature of innovation,” he wrote. “We have heard the
baseless cries of ‘you are going to kill someone’ way too
often. I take this as a serious personal insult.”

res0nat0r··on Extreme heat means 2/3 of North America could suffer blackouts this summer
I froze in my 35 degree apartment for about 5 days a couple of years ago when the TX powergrid went out due to the unwinterized power grid. The state essentially did nothing, and the GOP politicians will easily get reelected who oversaw that disaster. The voting base isn't rational and these things won't move the needle.
res0nat0r··on Jellyfin: Free software media system
Been running plex in docker from my Synology nas for a couple of years now and has been working great. I have a large library of stuff to index too. The homepage UI on the web, phone,iPad and TV app have been fine for me.
res0nat0r··on Reddit App – Suspicious high number of recent 5 star, one word reviews
It's just upset nerds on the internet review bombing the app because they're raging at their issue of the week, it's not really more complex than that IMO.
res0nat0r··on Reddit Threatens to Remove Moderators from Subreddits Continuing Blackouts
Unfortunately sites the size of reddit can't exist without money. People gravitate to sites like github etc because they provide features, which cost money, that people want.
res0nat0r··on New York City will charge drivers going downtown
> The second one is obviously morally wrong, though even that is in dispute

I don't really think this one is in dispute honestly:

Now he began taking measures to limit use of his parks. He had restricted the
use of state parks by poor and lower-middle-class families in the first place,
by limiting access to the parks by rapid transit he had vetoed the Long Island
Rail Road's proposed construction of a branch spur to Jones Beach for this
reason. Now he began to limit access by busses; he instructed Shapiro to build
the bridges across his new parkways low - too low for buses to pass. Bus trips
therefore had to be made on local roads, making the trips discouraging long and
    arduous.

res0nat0r··on Antarctica gained 600 Gt of ice during '09-'19 vs. a prediction of a 20k Gt loss
It's frankly just embarrassing too, since the data is obvious, the majority of (actual qualified scientists) who understand the subject agree that global warming is in fact happening, but a small minority of loud voices backed by big corporations make it appear that this is in fact a debatable issue.
res0nat0r··on US urged to reveal UFO evidence after claim that it has intact alien vehicles
Sure, but there is ample evidence of human made flying aircraft, and those being shot down, and really none of the other.
res0nat0r··on US urged to reveal UFO evidence after claim that it has intact alien vehicles
A much more reality based explaination:

This is just sad. I'll lay this on you, yes there is a classified crash
retrieval program, it's a SAP. It is about retrieving crashed UAVs from
adversarial countries and has nothing to do with aliens. Don't be a sucker
   folks.

I'd highly suggest reading this then: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/09/19/johnson-johnso...

They knew of the increased risks and asbestos levels, and even when they finally agreed to stop selling talc in the usa, they continued to just sell it overseas until their supply ran out. This wasn't just a random mixup.

Pretty wild that the reporting from CoinDesk that led to the downfall of FTX, is causing such an entire market implosion that it may be putting CoinDesk itself out of business.

res0nat0r··on Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk's salvo
They could do that, but then would need to also immediately require a big [X] next to "the instant you do this you forfeit any and all support for any hardware or software issues on your device".

Apple doesn't want to deal with a million hackers screwing with their devices and clogging up their support system, and also then having to deal with endless reports of terrible customer service because someone paid 1000$ for an iPhone and then Apple won't help them out when they brick it with the latest flashware they downloaded from usenet. Followed by the inevitable complaints that "Apple Customer Care is terrible". Easier just to control the entire ecosystem, and tell folks who don't like it, "cool, cya".
