releasedatez··on High Performance Php My Sql Scaling Techniques
Thanks for sharing. This info is very helpful.
releasedatez··on The stupidest things I’ve done in my programming job
I think a lot of the items listed can be solved by implementing existing open source solution. I've learned my lessons too.
releasedatez··on Venture Capital is a Mortgage
Good analogy but I think one aspect of VC is missed in this piece and it's the VC's connection to the rest of the world. When a company gets funded by VC, it's growth potential increases because of the VC's network and connection. When you get a mortgage, the bank doesn't introduce you to a high bidding buyer.
releasedatez··on The Workstations of Popular Websites
I would say so because its very portable. You are not stuck at one place. Especially, everything can be wireless now it's very easy to work anywhere else as long as you have your core system.
releasedatez··on Luck, Randomness and Success
Great piece! I know this is not the article is meant to say, but envy is inevitable. But using that envy as a drive may not be a bad thing.
releasedatez··on Jill Tarter: Why the search for alien intelligence matters (TED Prize winner)
wow... I love the "here... here... here..." part
releasedatez··on How Cup Noodle embraced constraints to create bootstrapped startups' fav food
This is cool. Thanks for the link.

I've read the comic about how 7-11 started in Japan. It was cool. http://www.dmpbooks.com/titles?n=26&t=59

releasedatez··on Conceptual Designs You Wish Existed
I like the "Paint or die but love me" table. I think that one is really doable right? it's got 4 legs.
releasedatez··on Things you may not know about jQuery
welcome,glad I can help
releasedatez··on Facebook is now competing with Disqus (et. al)
I think the marketing value alone makes it worth implementing into a site.

update: I just took a brief look at the Facebook comment widget and I think it's missing one feature. Facebook connect was meant for augmenting an existing login system that a site has but it doesn't allow site's own login user (when they are not logged in as Facebook user) to post comments as the user. Not as configurable as I would like.

releasedatez··on Things you may not know about jQuery
Here's a pretty good jQuery reference app (it's a little bit out of date). http://visualjquery.com/
releasedatez··on The Top 20 Twitter Applications (According to Compete)
Twitpic is leading the pack.
releasedatez··on Web-based IDEs to become mainstream?
Great idea! That means I'm not tied to one computer and I get to use the same IDE everywhere with my personal settings. One thing that bugs me the most is when I have to copy my custom settings over to other computers. I think web-based IDE will solve that problem.
releasedatez··on The Paradox of Self-Education
Nice response post! Me too, I almost couldn't stop writing myself.
releasedatez··on Dave Speers Interviews Founder of Comcast
Good interview but looks like Blair Witch Project
releasedatez··on The Paradox of Self-Education
Great piece, I can relate to that. I was a USC business grad. After I graduated, my first job was a loan consultant and I sold life insurance on the side. Then after a couple years, I found that internet and coding was my true passion. So I took an internet related job (lower pay) with no coding experiences at all, I used my time during work to learn how to code. Then switched to different companies, aiming to learn what I wanted to learn. Basically, I got paid to learn. Not only that, I practice what I've learned at night by coding my own stuff. I prioritized and devoted most of my evenings and weekends on learning. That also means a lot of sacrifice.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: if you know what you are truly passionate about, you'll find time and ways to pursue it. Prioritizing then comes easy.

releasedatez··on jQuery plugins for your development
It's actually pretty fast because it only returns HTML snippet for the current layer. To my knowledge, it doesn't do recursive digging.

releasedatez··on Ask HN: Please review our startup - timzon.com
When I'm on the "About Us" page, I couldn't find my way back home. The logo image doesn't take me home.
releasedatez··on How Not to Pitch to a Startup
"rare position" indeed but that also means it's a solid business. Congrats!
releasedatez··on Ask HN: Just cashed out for 2M. What now?
what I meant was for @newseller to look into the possibility of investing into gold.

Typical "buy low (super low) sell high" strategy is probably making "we buy gold" company a lot of money. They even have the money to buy Super Bowl ads.

releasedatez··on Hacker News is 2
Happy Birthday!
releasedatez··on The Coolest College Start-ups
"As these profiles (written by campus journalists) reveal" is all I got from the reading. Like you said, there are probably better stories out there.
releasedatez··on Coghead Grinds To A Halt, Heads To The Deadpool
Wow... thanks for the insight.
releasedatez··on [dead]
Yes, I thought so too. I do find it essential to have your other half being supportive. If your other half is always fighting with you, you'll have a harder time concentrating on your startup.
releasedatez··on Ask HN: Just cashed out for 2M. What now?
Ya, you see a lot of advertisement about buying gold because it goes in opposite direction with the stock market. Maybe that can be a portion of your diversification.
releasedatez··on Why VCs are rude
ha... I like that picture.
releasedatez··on Coghead Grinds To A Halt, Heads To The Deadpool
The burn rate for a lot of the startups are amazingly high. Is it really necessary to have such a high burn rate? What's considered a healthy burn rate?
releasedatez··on Ask HN: How necessary is a TOS?
awesome! Thanks for the info.
releasedatez··on Please tell us what features you'd like in news.ycombinator
One feature that I think will make a difference visually is to hide the items you've saved so everything on the new or home page will only show items that I haven't read before. I think it creates a better flow for screening through the topics. So a reader doesn't need to stop for a microsecond to skip over a saved item.
