recycleme··on To Live Your Best Life, Do Mathematics
Interesting. Anyone have a recommendation on a Math app for everyday use?
recycleme··on Is the Default Mode of the Brain to Suffer?
> If someone were 100% satisfied with everything around them, there would be no reason for them to move or change anything.

It's not that simple. Not moving or doing anything is a decision in itself with consequences.

recycleme··on Gene Cernan has died
We _are_ making progress in space exploration but the moon isn't of much interest anymore. The technology that is being developed to reach Mars for example is "technology we don't currently posses."
recycleme··on ALPHA observes light spectrum of antimatter for first time
> I still thought antimatter was a theory.

Your use of the word "theory" here seems to be a misnomer akin to the common statement "But X is just a theory."

recycleme··on The Great A.I. Awakening
> Yes, it may put you out of a job one day

This would be a massive issue in the US with the current setup.

recycleme··on Ships Buried Under San Francisco
One example is the 'click here' button at the very top of the page.
recycleme··on Nice People Really Do Have More Fun
It's true with the normal definition of happiness. Think about it. Whatever you're doing now is an attempt to get you to a happy state. If you're already happy, it'll fade and you will take more actions to be happy again. This seems to be part of our human condition.
recycleme··on Nice People Really Do Have More Fun
Everything we are doing right now is an attempt to find some happiness (now).
recycleme··on Paper Planes
Use devtools device toolbar and you'll get the option to fold and throw a plane.
recycleme··on NASA Adds to Evidence of Mysterious Ancient Earthworks
I thought the Ancient Aliens series was interesting. A group of friends showed it to me and some believed in it. However, we started following the logic they use and it basically boils down to this:

We don't know how this was done so therefore Aliens did it.

So the most honest thing they can actually say is they don't know.

recycleme··on 'Zeno effect' verified: Atoms won't move while you watch
Basically, this is called the observer effect. The process of observing something can change the thing you are observing.

recycleme··on Caffeine at night does more than keep you up late
He's not wrong. He's correcting the improper use of the word. However, I would say evolution has results but is actually a process.
recycleme··on The chicken that lived for 18 months without a head
It's probably not the actual chicken for one.
recycleme··on How I optimised my life to make my job redundant
Yes, it is self-reported but the evidence is there to back it up.
recycleme··on How I optimised my life to make my job redundant
I can empathize with others in this thread saying that his lifestyle is unhealthy (which is probably based on the anti-workaholic ideals a lot of us hold). However, he is just describing what worked for him to get to where he is and he seems to have accomplished a lot. Not only that, he describes how he is keeping himself healthy.

One reason for his success is that he multitasks well, whereas humans typically do not. This enables him to work the way he did/does.

The top post at the moment states that he will cause the "detriment of his quality of life." Actually, it seems he has improved his quality of life significantly (he left his corporate job, has more time to spend with his family, etc.). The top post OP also mentions not finishing the article so he may have missed all that.

Someone else stated that he is just boasting about "how awesome" he is. I did not get this vibe, but from my perspective, he is someone who has the confidence to speak about his subject. Which is completely fine. You should have a level of confidence when it comes to your craft and there's nothing wrong with that.

As stated in this article, this might not work for everyone. This is true, people work differently. Some people, oddly enough, don't need breaks. I do. And so on..

recycleme··on Ask HN: I am the dumbest person in the room. What should I do?
This is a classic fight or flight situation [0] where you are choosing flight.

There is no use being quiet at work. Everyone knows you are a junior so it's ok to act like one. Ask questions. Say "I don't know how to do this. Can you show me?" You'll find that even the "rock stars" don't know everything. It may be hard to ask those questions without feeling discomfort, embarrassment or even anger. Leverage those feelings to ask the hard questions. This might help alleviate some of the suffering you experience after work.

If none of that works then it's time to look for another job.

recycleme··on Update on Sony Investigation
>Unless there is strong evidence, 1 seems the most likely.

IMO strong evidence is lacking to make 1 the current scenario.

recycleme··on Update on Sony Investigation
> It's very unlikely we know everything about this situation that they do.

They explicitly mention that they are not sharing all of the evidence.

recycleme··on ChangeTip must die
> It's critical to not conflate Bitcoin with ChangeTip. The two are, in effect, separate currencies.

I might be missing something here but ChangeTip is not a currency.

Just in case people are wondering where you got that from.

recycleme··on $35/Week – Eating well on $35 a week
There is a giant modal in the way of everything when I load this site. Regardless, I've heard of this before and it seems interesting.

Has anyone tried soylent?

recycleme··on Elon Musk Donates $1 Million to New Tesla Museum
Here's the comic: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla_model_s2
recycleme··on Newegg is now accepting Bitcoin
1) look up paper wallets.

bitcoin is at a stage where it's not trivial to secure if you are not a technical person. There are companies that are working at making this easier by providing the security and even insuring the bitcoins if something happens. When services like this are out we will see a huge turning point IMO.

recycleme··on Why productive people get up insanely early
I find that I get a similar result when I work from the home office even during business hours. Although distractions can be nice sometimes, during crunch time, I'd rather WFH to minimize them.
recycleme··on Gifpop.io – Print gifs with the magic of lenticular printing
Ok, now just combine that with t-shirts (g-shirts).

edit: awesome idea btw!

recycleme··on Facebook Removing Option To Be Unsearchable By Name
After you choose to "permanently" delete your account, you'll get a message that says, "Your personal account was recently disabled by Facebook" two weeks later.
recycleme··on How many people are in space right now?
